>tens of thousands of years old
>design has barely changed
How did they get it so right?

There’s not a lot of factors to consider so it’s pretty simple to create and refine
>find stick
>bend stick
>attach string
The only advancements to be made and the benefits are clear with the advent of compound bows with metal and fiberglass.

The trve ol' reliable right there.

It is a bit more complex than that if you consider wood types and different constructions like self- and composite bow.
Nonetheless bows are ancient and had tons of time to be refined and there is indeed a clear ceiling on the complexity due to available materials.
It's a bit like with wooden spears which predate the homo sapiens, over that time frame you can only improve to a certain point.

Wait until you find out about clubs!

Zoomers ruined clubs.

By not going there?

Recurve design is about the only improvement before stepping into compound designs. Not much you can change beyond
>wood as spring
>rope for spring
>pull rope to wind up spring
>release to launch

>centuries of material science development into wood treatment, composites, stringmaking, fletching, industrial processes, etc. taking the bow from a good stick and some sinew into a tool that can be used year after year and requires a lifetime of experience to craft

The javelin evolved in more interesting ways, from sharpened sticks to medieval fletched javelins with giant barbed heads.
Fletched javelins are incredibly common in medieval art, almost as common as bows and swords, so they were likely common weapons of war and hunting.
There were also later variants for use on horseback up into the 19th century in Asia.

Ah yes. Zoomers were the ones on the school board voting to defund every non essential program.
