Burt, I figure you've been asked this a billion times, but what pistol would you unironically say is a good (from your collection) that isn't from one of the major manufacturers, and isn't unobtanium? I mean some really weird shit that presumably maybe 5 guys on the planet go shoot regularly.

I went out and bought my very first gun yesterday. I lurked hers and other threads for a few weeks and landed on the 92fs as my go-to option. it's a good gun to learn on, while it's large, beginners aren't going straight to carrying a gun so it doesn't matter. it's good to learn on since DA and SA triggers means that you can effectively dry fire both styles of triggers at home

> I've shot one for 2000 rounds without cleaning, giving it oil and 1000 rounds.
I don't understand why /k/ likes to brag about neglecting guns. I clean and lube after every range day and if it's a long range day I like to field strip and do a quick clean and lube after 300ish rounds.
>>
>>64803100
>I don't understand why /k/ likes to brag about neglecting guns
If you shoot a lot, oftentimes shooting after every range trip gets tiring
>>
>>64803100
I used to clean guns right after shooting, used to be a fun little ritual, but when you’re bringing 5 or so handguns to the range it’s a chore. Especially since the guns don’t actually need to be cleaned. I’ve shot a few thousand rounds out of a 2011 with just lubrication

Bersa Thunder Pro series, Arex Zero1/2 series, Springfield(IM Metal/HS Produkt) XD(HS2000) series, and maybe the Arsenal Strike/Stryk series. They're all still in production, should have old models and new models available, but aren't expensive or "big brands" (Springfield as an importer doesn't count)

I could say other stuff but with caveats. Bond Bullpup, not cheap and not fun to shoot. Steyr M series, BOTH mine had problems, I wouldn't put them on the same pedistal as the rest. Third Bay Ounce, also not cheap and manual of arms is utterly retarded but it's incredibly reliable and silly. I could list a gorillion guns but I'm trying to keep the suggestions not-expensive, in production, and somewhat available (as in not like a Vektor where you can buy one practically any time but not in a gun store or distributor)

If I'm shooting a lot, it takes me 5 minutes to field strip, wipe it down with bits of old t shirt, and oil it, after my 300ish rounds. You do bring a few rags and some oil when you go shooting, don't you? It's not plausible to me that this would be "tiring". A full clean takes 10min tops if one of my pistols is really dirty, and it doesn't take 10min each for each pistol when I bring multiple. I strip them all, lay them out, clean them all, then put them all back together.

>guns don't need to be cleaned
Fuddlore. Powder residue, etc, are abrasive particulates and will increase the rate of wear on your contact surfaces. Dirtier range ammo can be mildly corrosive even if marketed as not so. Shooting deposits lead all over your gun. I'm guessing you don't change your car's oil or your smoke detector batteries either since you have this attitude of maintenance not being necessary.

>Bersa

>>
>>64802877
Main reason for it I can see is zero creep
It's a little take up and a clean break compared to the stock trigger and it's little bit of after shot movement
>>
>>64803133
>A full clean takes 10min tops
This is debatable. Depends on your regimen. I like to scrub the barrel and slide free of carbon with oil and a soft steel brush. Gotta get the carbon out, rinse with brake cleaner, blow out with compressed air. Now reassemble cleanly, THEN YOU GOTTA OIL IT.

I will give you my reasons

1-Not american, you need loicense and we don't have a huge gun culture
2-From a big city
3-My dad never took me shooting despite being a hunter in his youth, a former military and owning guns, kinda of a dick move, he used to tell me how cool his battle rifle was.
4-My mom hates guns, doesn't help that the day I got my license some guy at her apartment blew his head up after a fucked up divorce, so imagine
5-Expensive hobby and finally after many years I got financial security
6-And the reason I finally decided to get into this hobby...got a good paying job, and this job is stressful, so I figure I need a real hobby to vent out, not just painting lead figures or playing vidya

I already own 5 firearms, looking to own 9 by this year's end.

I don't make a habit of it, but I have a lot of 92s and putting extra wear on one to see how reliable it was ended up being worth it. It's an extremely reliable gun platform. I shoot every week and cleaning 4 guns would be a huge chore. They don't need it, I'd only baby my carry gun.

>The Blacktooth replicates the internal mechanism of the original 1950s Python, not the modern CNC version. That means the classic V-spring action, and the tight lockup that made the Python legendary. I worked the sample's trigger and hammer extensively. The double-action pull was smooth with no grit. Single-action break was clean. If someone blindfolded me and handed me this revolver, I could have been fooled into thinking it was an actual Colt.
To my understanding though the initial lot is only going to be a 6 incher, but if its successful, they'll probably do the other barrels in the future. I've been thinking about selling one of my taurus revolvers to get a nu python for a while but the price tag has still made me wince, being a relative poorfag.

I picked up a 17 gen 6 and it's everything I ever wanted. It shoots so nice feels so good. Not sure why you're seeing 720 when it should be 620. I traded in a CZ P10 for credit and I'm so glad to be rid of that piece if shit.
>>
>>64804824
I remember getting shilled into buy a P10C when I was a newguns because its muh glock killer/better than a P365/Glock 43 when I hated the grip from day one and I felt like carrying a fullsize or micro would have been a better compromise for its size.

Why not just get a TLR7? They're like $120, plenty of holster options.
>>
>>64804882

In addition to this, though I carry a glock 43 I'm not really a glock guy. Which glock 17 should I get, gen4 or gen5? I police the looks of the gen4 but feel like I've heard it had some problems vs the gen5.

How do you like the M9A1? I wish they (and all Beretta 92fs) had swappable front sights.

It was my first Beretta 92 and also my first centerfire handgun
It has served me very well
>>
>>64804834
The P10 was good on paper and felt good, though a little tall for what it is. My problem was the awful exposed spring design choices they made. The little firing pin block lever spring fell out of place more than once which sketched me out. The final straw was the slide lock lever spring fell off it's ledge at the range causing malfunctions twice in one range session. I could never trust my life to it again.

The prodigy is not great. Very iffy build quality, it’s almost expected you drop hundreds of dollars replacing the parts.

Kimber is about to undercut the Prodigy with the Warrior at 1k, still MIM internals but if it’s the same MIM internals as the 2K11 they’re good to go for a few thousand rounds at least. Ben went over 10k with no issues. The 2K11 trigger is great, I don’t expect the Warrior to be as good.

A Glock as a range toy? Wack. I'll carry my G19 when I can (I usually carry a subcompact) but I would never pick a Glock as a range toy. That's like buying a Camry to use as a track day car. Just about every SA or DA/SA has a better trigger and ergos than a Glock, which makes them better range toys.

Works on my machine [Glock 17], the model for which it was actually designed. Mec-Gar never claimed compatibility with Glock 47's, Glock 45's, subcompacts, aftermarkets, user modifications or non-Glocks like the Ruger RXM, PSA Dagger, et cetera. Apart from that, the only quirk I've noticed is that loading the magazine takes slightly more care because the follower has to tilt laterally for the 18th cartridge

That doesn't sound like me. Unless I said no because they're so much more expensive now. But they introduced some new gen 3 model that was like $300 MSRP or something which is a great price. I think they're fine in a sea of fine, other anons bring up the grip safety locking the gun which I think is overblown, I don't know of any other flaws or problems with the design. What did I say?

You can just do things

Build the gun of your dreams. The problem now is I am out of guns to consume. I’m no longer searching gunbroker every 6 hours for new guns. I have no impulse to spend more money on iterative improvements.
>>
>>64804126
I've heard lots of good things about the 28, 29, and 30. Kind of like the megastars little brother. Unfortunately as cheap as they are I can't justify another full-size 9mm in my collection.
>>
>>64805873
i guess start reloading then lol
>>
>>64805873

What’s the difference between installing a conversion kit and building it from scratch? I assume you want a ramped barrel for more chamber support.

Went to a McDonalds that apparently had all the (White) Fentanyl zombies weathering the storm. They stole my Chicken nuggets before I could even get to my food and when I went to the counter some guy literally sat down in my seat and put his backpack down. Had my hand on my carry under my jacket at that point. Not worth smoking a fent zombie over a 6.51 Micky D's meal so I just got my refund from some poor teenager that clearly wasn't comfortable either and got the fuck out. Avoid McDonalds in the cities bros.

>>
>>64805923

>>
>>64805930
I mean sort of like that except they say that double-stack 1911s and 2011s don't work for some reason, due to the feeding, so primarily the main thing would be to figure out what's causing the feeding issue and fix it.

Well you're probably depressed if shooting those guns doesn't get you excited. But you should really try out competitions. I've been trying to go to all the back up gun matches at my range and have been ricing out a j-frame and trying to track down old discontinued accessories for it on eBay and gunbroker. It's been a fun little project because it's purposeful and helps me improve with a gun I carry.

as for being embarrassed to transfer it, its a legit concern, but in person you can easily express your disapproval of all the gimmicky shit they throw in with the gun. A m9a4 isnt a dumb choice, the colors are though

I bought a henry axe and a keltec p50 within weeks of each other. "do you only buy meme guns, anon" -my ffl guy.
yes. yes, I'm afraid I do.
>>
>>64806164
Does your range allow rapid fire? Or holster drills? I’ve found a shot timer that with the app you can adjust a lot of the settings on the fly, so you can lower the sensitivity for indoor ranges so it only picks up your gun (as long as no one is shooting super loud ass rifles).

The most important drill is the basic doubles, same point of aim, two rounds. It can be done in a few ways, the second shot being predictive (as soon as you think you’re back on target) or reactively (confirm your sights are on target before shooting). Very important building block for practical shooting.
>>
>>64806179
Not him but I'm a gun noob and while I can shoot better than all my friends, I can't outshoot anyone here. One of my common drills at the range is firing two shots like you described and going to low ready inbetween
>>
>>64806179

Much to my irritation the new range owners don't allow holster draws, sadly. Controlled pairs seems like a good starting point, are you aware of any other specific drills that help with target acquisition and follow up shot speed?

Mozambique, center of mass is predictive shooting, head is a reactive shot (can also be done reactively to cut down time) but the idea was that you engage the center as fast as possible and then switch mindsets for a controlled aimed shot. This kind of mimics shooting a closer target fast and then a long range target after. It’s NOT gay bull shit like “checking if the threat is neutralized then shooting the third shot”.

I’ve been buying black 3x5 note cards to make up targets, like putting multiple notecards on a target to make multi targets where I try to put one round in each note card as fast as possible at 5 and 7 yards. Black is nice since you can’t see the hit on the target but on a white backer you can easily tell if you didn’t hit the black.

I have been hunting for a CCW. In my search I have shot fifteen different pistols and my favorite of them all was a HK Mk. 23- which I only shot because one of the ranges I visited had one available to rent and I had extra .45 left after trying out a Glock 21 and a RIA commander length 1911. I know the Mk. 23 is an absurd choice, but I bought an airsoft version just to see how tough it would be to conceal and it works really well for me at 3 o'clock with ~+30° of cant. Someone please, please talk me out of this.

I really want 2011fags to get it through their fucking skulls that shit like this or the Alien are pistols that justify their price tags. A 2011 will never, ever, under any circumstances be justifiable as a $5,000 purchase. It will always be inferior to newer, better optimized platforms like this.
>>
>>64806315
>Someone please, please talk me out of this.

something tells me you don't actually want to be talked out of it and just want replies. the mk23 is JUST a long-slide USP with better fit and finish that costs 2-4x the price. you will struggle to find quality modern holsters for it, you will have to get it milled for a red dot if you want one, which is like another 400 bucks and the company that does it will have to refinish the slide, removing the cool anti-corrosive paint HK uses.

how about you just get a glock 41? its the long-slide version which really does help with recoil, the 10mm long glock is real easy to shoot.

Concealment isn't the only aspect of CC you need to consider, theres also the fact that you're gonna have to have it on you for hours at a time. >>64806315
I have a Mark 23 and I've shot it a lot, it's a great gun to shoot but you're not gonna carry it unless you have obscenely crippling gun autism like that guy on youtube. You will get sick of the bulk and weight and give up on carrying it. If you're going to get a Mark 23, don't cope saying you'll carry it, you won't. Either get it because you want a Mark 23, or don't get it at all. It is impractical for actual defensive use except for maybe woods or nightstand use.

Do you have to be seated/bend over/crouch a lot during your day? These things make carrying a gun that long very uncomfortable and make printing a guarantee. shocking. Anyway. I've been thinking about handguns in .30 or .22 hornet. The raging hornet was a cool idea except for the length of the barrel making it unfeasible anywhere except a gun range, something with a more normal barrel like a 6 or 4 inch - maybe with a bull style underlug - I think would have made it more of an option for carrying. I've been thinking about cutting the barrel of a super redhawk myself and installing new sightposts, thoughts? Alternatively, a lot less work would go into just getting a .30 super carry. I've been looking at a smith for that, but I'd also be open to suggestions for alternative pistols chambered in it. The purpose would be primarily for EDC but I like to do a lot of target shooting when I do my drills at the range.

I think there are good taurus revolvers out there, but I was just naive and got convinced by some boomer piece of shit when I was 21 to buy a (poorly) refurbished and abused revolver with a fucked trigger and spring, completely worn down rifling, and the screw for the grips was stripped out because the retard working on it refused to use anything other than a flathead screwdriver to open it so the store's gunsmith covered it up by using wads of electrical tape inside of the frame to keep it together.
If it was new I imagine it'd have been a great piece.

Hey /k/! I am now the owner of a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 as of today. It's my first ever firearm (though I have shot guns plenty).

I have two retarded questions

>I am trying to familiarize myself with racking the slide, ensuring safety is on, etc. It feels really stiff. Will that loosen up as time + use goes on?

I’m leaning this way but the slide concerns me. There any places that are modding those slides for optics or is there simply not enough material? It’s a compact.
>>
>>64809342
Langdon can cut the slide, a few other places can cut the slide, the lack of a front sight means you won’t be able to easily get a front BUIS. The EPS/RMSC plate for LTT is almost low enough to cowittness with a standard front iron. Langdon now offers to cut any 92 slide

A few other shops do the beretta OEM optic cut but the same problem applies about BUIS and the OEM cut is way taller
>>
>>64809403
I may have to get a new slide anyways. Then slide is a 92d centurion. Frame supposedly centurion. Frame rails are too wide for the slide to fit.
>>
>>64809418
92 rails for compacts are shorter, width should have nothing to do with it

Great… Yeah the slide won’t even go on the frame. Time to figure out what frame this is. I should have bought the H&k bro

I guess you can’t file/stone down the frame rails to fit since it’s aluminum and I think it loses its hardened exterior if you do that

Striker guns are the future. Simplest manual of arms possible with a consistent trigger pull is what a carry handgun needs to have and strikers solve that problem. DA/SA is obsolescent at this point. LEM, DAK, etc. were all dead on arrival. SA guns are for tards who think they train through the drawback of a thumb safety but actually don't and will be killed in da streetz when they forget about it or re-engage it by accident.
