How does this thing on the marder 2 work? Did the crew remove it before an engagement to be able to rotate the cannon?

Even for heavy tanks, it seems they wanted to prevent strain on the stabilizer and misalignment of the sights due to barrel wobble, and this is even more so for light self-propelled AT guns.I think some had a mechanism that allowed them to be detached by pulling a string from the fighting compartment.
This one doesn't move.
