>>64865594>You sleep in bed with your gun bud?nta but yes, I do.
>>64865545You posted some ginormous one but on a rifle a small WML is a completely insignificant amount of weight. I have a pistol WML on my semi, perfectly fine for home defense or typical night usage (the occasional rabid animal/vermin mainly, which I'm shooting at <25yd at night not 100+ or whatever the big stuff goes).>>I need it to id my target for home defense >Ever heard of a light switch asshole? This is retarded in multiple respects given the low cost and low weight. I actually do have a fully local smart home and full building battery backup (as well as redundant network UPS), all physically secure as well, so I really can and do easily have a "switch on all lights in <invader> mode" button and have high confidence in it 24/7/365. That's hardly the most common scenario though and depending on where you live power outages are pretty frequent, some friends across town are on a different electrical utility then I am and see them dozens of times per year. Someone can also choose to just try to take advantage of a big outage, and this is actually kinda predictable these days because big snow storms and ice storms tend to be reliably forecast quite a ways in advance. So it's not just random luck/guesses, if you want to hit a bunch of houses during an outage and you have a freebie android phone or something you can know and start preparing a week ahead. If WMLs all cost a ton and weighed a ton then they'd need more value to justify themselves but since you can get some chinesium thing which is gudenuf for literally like $30 who cares? If you want to criticize larpers getting those $$$$ laser things sure though people can do whatever they want with a hobby imo as long as they don't go into debt for it.
>>64865594It’s just bullshit to keep the economy chugging along. Don’t take it too seriously (like everyone else does, just look at all the armchair operators itt)
>>64865610I think taking *guns* seriously rather than shooting and training is exactly the problem. Most gun guys in the culture today care a shit load about their build but go to the range maybe once a month if you're lucky. It's just a consumer hobby to them, and the flashlight like night vision is largely fashion. >Cross drawI think basically all concealed carry is also a larp. You don't need a gun to walk your dog or go to Costco. Acts like a safety blanket. >AR buildsThe first thing you guys always want to do is compare builds. I have 3 assembled ARs and 6 stripped lowers/ various parts optics etc.1. Aero Lower, BCM upper, 16inch BFH barrel, usually have a Sig Romeo 8T on it. 2. PA-15 10.5inch pistol with Holosun 510c3. Old ass XM-15 which was my first AR and has a fixed carry handle. >>64865616lol>>64865683A lot of these guys buy shit like this, don't pretend they don't. >Smart homeTo me this reads like you just have too much time and money and that every contractor in your town is putting their kids through college off of your insane level of preparedness for something that is absolutely not going to happen. >>64865545>someone breaks into my house>grab gun>gun has a light on it>cat 4 chimp out >grab gun>gun has a light on itI only have a light on the one gun. range toy target rifles don't have lights
>>64865545>>64865594>>64865740I'll answer sincerely. Most people buy ARs because they want to be prepared for some form of SHTF. Be it civil unrest, natural disaster, civil war, rioting, foreign invasion, alien communist zombies, etc. Are these things likely? Recently some of them have been feeling more and more likely every day, but the reality is no, probably not. However that doesn't mean these things are impossible, or that people shouldn't worry about them at all. If you own an AR for such purposes and you ever do have to use your AR in such a situation, then there is a good chance the bad stuff you're worried about will be happening at night and for that reason I'd argue that not only is it a good idea to have a light on your AR, but that it's actually mandatory. You can argue all day how that's stupid, how it won't actually happen, how even if people own this stuff they're not training enough for it to actually matter and while all of that may be true, it doesn't change the fact that you don't actually know nothing will ever happen. Such things are possible and in fact DO happen in some places and at the end of the day paying $100 for a streamlight just isn't that much of a price delta for how much added utility a light on a gun can give you.
>>64865594>You sleep in bed with your gun bud?yeah, kind of
>>64865952I don't like the concussion coming off my shotgun with an 18.5 inch barrel whereas the concussion off my AR doesn't bother me
>>64866150Okay how about this happy compromise. Buy the light, but don't put it on the gun until the SHTF situation happens? What value do you get having all this SHTF larp shit on your gun. I am pretty sure you're going to have the 15 minutes warning that things are going sideways to attach your light and night vision if thats what it is supposed to be for.

A better question is: since NV LARP is so common, how come nobody makes a really good 4-in-1 for rifles? Rovyvon makes small ones for pistols and PDWs but rifles don’t have those size constraints. A LAM + light on the side is inelegant. It breaks symmetry, is heavier, and needs 2 switches and 2 batteries to stay on top of.
>>64866843>my nods are purely fore larp.Based. I don't know why people always treat "larp" as some sort of winbutton for their arguments, as if actually using your funs and just having a good time out innawoods is some sort of bad thing? It's like someone seeing somebody get a nice motorcycle or kayak or fancy hiking gear or something and going>"oh you're just larping you're never going to be a professional sports racer all you're doing is getting out into the fresh air and light and having an awesome time seeing the sights of our great American nation what an idiot, heh"

>>64866852Industry moves slowly, isn't big on innovation, and there are coordination problems. What we really could use at this point is an electronic rail standard so you can just attach stuff wherever and have it efficiently powered off a single rifle battery in the stock or something that can be swapped like a mag and bring the mass close to your center of gravity. Then every accessory could be way smaller while lasting longer. Bonus points for an optional open simple serial comms standard too so stuff can be talked to, opening up the option for grip controls or whatever anyone can come up with.
WMLs and red dots on pistols are two of the most retarded things today in the gun world. WMLs are strictly for man children who played (or continue to play) video games. Fun fact: all a WML does is give away your position!!!
>>64866879>unc madget with the times
>>64865952I don’t know. But it depends on the property and threat. >>64866879>Fun fact: all a WML does is give away your position!!!>i totally stealth snipe people with my pistol from 20yd away
>>64866873I said “a really good one” lol. But desu you’d think it might even be industry standard at this -pint for every LAM to be a 4-in-1. Pretty much everyone’s AR is configured with some LAM on top and a light on the side.>>64866876>closer to the shooter’s center of massYup. All the sighting instruments should ideally be clustered on a hydra just above the magwell. This also eliminates the need for a stiff rail needing to hold zero, so it can be made of polymer of CF or whatever, further lightening the gun and moving the center of mass further back.

Also, why even have a optic? If you can't point shoot out to 25 yards, you might as well find a new hobby. Oh look Tyshawn Carter is in my house, he's 5 yards away and appears to be brandishing a weapon of some kind near my Samsung® OLED panel lol, thank goodness I practiced up drills at the range last Saturday - bringing my AR into my workspace and acquiring a sight picture through my EOtech® EXPS3-0™ to replace the mumble rap in his head with a 77gr Sierra® Tipped Match King™ felt much more tactical and cool than just naturally aiming the weapon and squeezing the trigger with the weapon light hot spot on him until he hit the floor with a comical thud.

You won't have time to mount it without specifically tracking down a quick release mount. It's far better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

The oft-forgotten second world countries were the Soviet Union and its client states in the Warsaw Pact (probably also Red China). The third world was, originally, all of the nonaligned states at the start of the Cold War, a number which grew rapidly as European colonies became free states. The idea was that the first and second world were fighting to draw the third world countries into their respective spheres of influence, and thus ultimately win the Cold War.The terms have lost their original meanings over time, hence your comment, but that doesn't make you look any less ignorant.

Is there a reason why shouldnt i put a pistol light on ar15? I was thinking about putting my tlr7x on my ar tbhfamlams. It is light and small, and the light is more than enough.
>>64872663show me one fucking court case where someone was convicted for having a light on his or her gun you no guns reddit spacing homosexual third world retard
>>64872668No. It's a common sense attachment. Basically the mark of a civilian who doesn't larp enough to get into night vision, but does take shooting or home defense seriously. The military and SWAT use them too. There's not really a reason you wouldn't put a light on your gun unless you're a frontline soldier with night vision and they still seem to like lights.
>>64872668The main reason not to use the TRL-7x specifically is it doesn't have a very high candela and it's a rifle and all so you want to be able to look at/shoot at stuff farther away. You can get very "throwy" pistol lights though. It's certainly bright enough for inside of a house, of course. But juries get spooked when they find out you used an AR for home defense. Of course, I wouldn't say don't use a pistol light it if that's what you have. Just that it's not meant to mount to m-lok directly and doesn't accept tape switches, which some people in their experience consider important if you want the muscle memory to shoot fast and accurately.

Half the reason you own a gun is for self defence, even if you never fire a shot in anger. There's no point having a gun if you aren't holding it when you need it, hence CCW/EDC/duty pistols. But there's equally no point if you can't aquire a target at all, at night. And there aren't many people who would attack you in broad daylight, but a compelling reason why if you were attacked, in your home, that would tend to be at night. Without a light you have serious, serious problems. >is this a burglar or a drunk friend>is my wife standing/lying behind the person i am shooting at>is there anything I'm likely to fall overLights cost nothing, if you had to you'd duct tape a flash light of any kind onto your rifle, shotgun, any gun. Issue one is your gun, issue two is seeing what you're doing. And then you get into flashlights with proper buttons, made for rifles. Huge advantage And then lights with strobe, significant advantage. And then lights with integrated red lazer, ir, uv designators, sensors, spectrum. If you're trained these tactical advantage can be absolute, you win every single time. Burglar breaks window, enters dark room, you immediately shoot them from wherever you're standing before they can even point their gun at you. You have someone held up in a hallway, stalemate, you strobe them and they can't tell if you're breaking cover, probably mag dump at nothing, can't work out if you're high or low. If they have no ammo, you win. If you both draw on each other and you blind them, they fail to hit centre mass, you win. If you're standing in a corner with a red dot, you see someone crossing the red dot, mag dump them with the flash light on, you win. It's not at all uncommon that criminal shoot accomplices in the dark, in confusion. So yes, it really is that important.

>>64866150>Most people buy ARs because they want to be prepared for some form of SHTF.This is the issue, by and large. “SHTF” is distinct from a straightforward self defense situation, or a home invasion, where most people would purchase shotguns (or handguns where there are more permissive gun laws). Everyone gets this. The problem is, what is an “SHTF”? Common law in the west generally describes defending yourself against immediate bodily harm. But how do we know when it’s “SHTF”? It is largely an internet phenomenon driven by sites that do not uphold a standard on the information they are sharing. You can see where this becomes a destabilization vector, when there is this separate, paramilitary form of self defense called “SHTF”, which is announced on internet sites, and can create a distributed set of issues where people show up at certain locations with military style weapons looking for movie style action figure battles. Even more troubling is the fact that anyone, including foreign bad actors, can just post an incitement article online in the US with zero oversight.

>>64886313>This is the issue, by and large. >>“SHTF” is distinct from a straightforward self defense situation, or a home invasion, where most people would purchase shotgunsShotgun sales are way fucking down. Most people are buying handguns or ARs for home defense. The shotgun thing is because prior to the 1990s most people hunted so they had a shotgun in their home anyway for hunting and because prior to the 1980s ccw movement and 1994 awb gun culture was way more fudd based and and just more people had shotguns and manual action rifles compared to today. People don't hunt as much and post 2008 handgun bans and the general attack on handguns are no longer a thing. like 20 years ago harris supposed a handgun ban in SF and 35 years ago there were legit pushes for a nation wide handgun ban. ARs are better for home defense and people's choice of gun usually is based on where they live and the local culture. people living in apartments or cities usually get handguns to save on roomAlso ARs are literally the best centerfire rifle for your money if you don't care about terminal performance on an animal. They are light, accurate, reliable and cheap so if you wanted a target rifle you choice is basically a .22lr or an AR
