So my parents are buying a business in texas. They are going to focus on it and retire there, most likely. They want me to help if possible. I have always lived in a ban state and might be looking at finally being able to own a suppressor, SBR, and various freedom things. What should my first uncucked build be?

I'm not the shooter. The "weakest element" is almost certainly the range slop fiocci ammo. Watch a couple preston moore vids, cheap ammo is not exactly consistent. I'm just saying it's not unusual for the POI to shift and overall pattern stay the same. Your POI can shift a lot depending on barrel profile and firing schedule

Compared to picatinny, how well does mlok perform with high round counts? Considering its thinner im sure it'll be hotter quicker but also disperse quicker. Has anyone ever experienced this sort of copper slag buildup in a suppressor? Any ideas on the mechanism by which it is adhering to the can interior surface and building up? Any ideas on efficient removal? Around 7000 rounds through this can, majority 10.3" shooting M193 STV Scorpio, bit of FRT SS but nothing abusive.

>>64877859
Eh. If I'm going to pursue this project I would probably just get this one, and mill off the shell deflector and possibly mill off the forward assist provision and either weld it up and mill it flat, or like make a flat aluminum or steel panel and cover and seal up the foward assist with that.

https://guntecusa.com/product/ar-15-stripped-billet-upper-receiver-anodized-black-discontinued/

>>64877861
Do you wear gloves?
If heat mitigation for the support hand is the goal the solution is gloves and or rail panels/covers that genuinely give you standoff from the aluminum. Obviously like a quad rail with KAC panels works pretty well, but you could achieve similar with an Mlok rail.

Have you actually asked the manufacturer about it? I don't really see where it could possibly cause any issues since it's not clogging up any ports or impeding the bullet path. Looks like free blast baffle reinforcement to me there friend.
>>
>>64877886
I swear I’ve seen this post before! I better check last thread. The mechanism was the rifling technically engraving the copper jacket and then that particulate being picked up be gas. I would do what I told you last time. Soak and pick. Also I’d increase your cleaning schedule and make sure to write it down this time.
>guntec
Idk if interest but I do have an old Anderson sport upper. Youd likely have to mill of deflector but that’s about it.

My current theory is that his YHM mount has moved the muzzle too far forward in respect to the blast baffle so its not able to correctly self clean and as such the lowest pressure parts of the can are getting abnormal buildup.

>clogging up
>possibly cause any issues
Yeah so this is the fun part of this whole observation. This is a pretty new technically new gen 3D printed Inconel can with the typical porous finish that they're currently known for. I've been skeptical of PIP (porpoisely induced porosity) cans for a hot minute now, and we already have seen and heard of issues a while back with OSS cans clogging up with use. Complex baffle geometry that by its very design is meant to trap hot particulate gas seems ripe to do exactly that. Unlike carbon buildup, this slag is like melted on, and adds significantly more weight than carbon does. Not sure which is harder to remove as I haven't removed this copper yet, but as it stands carbon buildup isn't the easiest to remove (waiting for someone with a fucking kitchen scale that actually shoots to give us hard data of these cleaning soak solvents actually removing any significant amount of carbon). In my experience the only effective way to remove carbon buildup from cans is with dremel and cordless drill mounted wire brushes and as such you really can only get the blast chamber (not bad) or the last chamber before the end cap if it is an old gen removeable end cap can.
The issue is that these new gen 3D printed high suppression low back pressure cans might have significantly reduced lifetimes than manufacturers know or are advertising (ignorance vs malice), and that citizens buying what they think are legit tools with corresponding longevity are not that. You're right this particular can doesn't have any vents or gas paths at the seam that the copper is collecting... but if it did, they would be clogged as fuck.
Some ridiculous acid soak and hours of picking/scraping is not "normal" maintenance (depends on how much you make per hour I guess, $17/hr?), and if this is the direction we're going in, cans should be priced accordingly given that you might be replacing them in just a few months (assuming you shoot).

I like the idea of copper vapor/gas. This makes sense, and we have other observations from other shooters and systems that support that at the minimum this is how the copper is coming to exist in the first place (meaning the barrel or ammo isn't fucked or something).
>soak
With what in particular? I've done chemical soak based cleans before on cans, so have others. While these have been primarily targeting carbon (the dip, breakfree etc), results have been abysmal, so I'm skeptical of soak, especially bro look at the picture. These nugget slags themslves are large, like some of them are the size of a 6mm BB, and being slags they themselves are not that porous so I don't think they'll just straight up dissolve.
>increase your cleaning schedule
I mean yeah I could do that. Fucking hate cleaning.

>>64877915

Not one of equal mass and surface area

>>64877915
>>64877904
I don't think the issue is the muzzle face or the muzzle device front end is too close to the blast baffle surface because while yes it is pretty close, (0.270") my other cans have comparable geometries (0.350"-0.450" or so) and are not showing ANY of the effect.

It very well could be the shittass barrel, but right now my money is sorta on the porosity actually of the 3D printed surface. BIG mechanical adhesion factor. Actually I was just reading publications and writing up some technical analysis for work regarding accomodation coefficient vs surface roughness for various materials. The correlation is very strong. The accomodation coefficient determines the degree to which gas molecules thermalize to the surface temperature (or vice versa) of a bulk as described by a weighted average of specular vs diffuse molecular reflection (momentum vs energy conserving).

>My current theory is that his YHM mount has moved the muzzle too far forward in respect to the blast baffle
That's part of the reason I strayed away from the YHM stuff even on my Turbo. I went with Comstock's Plan B closed tine flash suppressor with the angled cuts since it diverts some of the blast away from the first baffle. I doubt it would've prevented grip's issue, but at least it curtails the effect somewhat.

>>
>>64877975
For what it’s worth I do defer to a variant >>64877915 of this theory. Unless rhat stuff is hitting the first baffle or chamber and then bouncing back. It could be tolerance ix the print but youd almost think something has to be off either in placement or timing. I’d start with bore cleaner honestly. See if you can get any bit of it loose are able to be lifted. Barring that, acid/peroxides.

After reeweighing this shit it does look a lot closer to 12grams including paint was removed. Got test can much much hotter yesterday while shooting and it had nerve gas coming off it that smelled roughly of breakthrough so I wonder if we didnt have some absorption into the carbon stuck that wasnt cooked out at 15 round point.

Giving it an overnight soak in CLR and will weigh after to verify if any gainz to be had.

Okay so regarding distance to blast baffle... Measure a plan B setup. Pretty sure it places it even closer since Plan B doesn't have the active spring loaded retention (Plan B chuds btfo) that the YHM Kurze has. Regardless, I don't think it is because the 0.080"-0.180" is making the difference for a couple of reasons. First, if you compare to like a "typical" QD mount setup, YHM Phantom long, Key Mo, SF etc, in those systems the muzzle and MD tip are a solid 0.5"-1.0" further as compared to ANY YHM Kurz setup. It is a reductio ad absurdum with one primary assumption; if reducing this critical dimension from 0.750"-1.00" to 0.350-0.450" didn't cause the issue, then ASSOOMING a reasonable like linear non-stepwise trend (le heckin physiques, thick tight keep us updated), reducing the critical dimension again from 0.350"-0.450" to 0.280" shouldn't all of a sudden cause the issue, since the relative reduction is even smaller. Note the trend assumption though.

I think right now this is a surface roughness effect. Pic related, MG7k that probably had 4000-5000rnds on it in similar applications and firing schedule, similar dimension between blast baffle and muzzle and muzzle device end. No copper buildup. Some wire wheel work and all the carbon gone.

I’d assume so. I’ve only ever used 5.56 uppers as picrel suggests. I can throw my bcg in any upper and the only thing interfering with fit is the extension itself. You can likely just drill the gas tube. Enlarging the port can be done. You might be able to find what you’re looking for already done at Tromix depending on what you’re working towards.

About to start running my SS lower more, RC2 with the SF brake since it's integrally suppressed and the can is slaved. Hoping the brake might cut down on the copper buildup you're describing. Barely have a thousand rounds on that can atm but we're training/match season is right around the corner...

FWIW Not seeing anything like that on my other RC2 and it's well beyond you're 7k round count. MDs used were CTNs and B&T flash hider, with a little warcomp mixed in.

IDK what ammo you're shooting but I've been on AAC 77gr OTMs exclusively for a couple years now and would've thought that might contribute given all the jacket separation claims, but I've never had a single issue (and it prints sub-moa for me)

The OAL of the KAC ras is 12.25 barrel nut if specs are to be believed. On a 15.1 barrel its leaving enough gap that I feel confident nothing is hitting under barrel whip or rail loading. So that gives us a 2.85" number to work off of. Apply that to your 16" barrel and we get 13.15".

1) The optic shuts off during firing. For some reason in this setup the recoil of the gun firing somehow ends up applying a vertical force to the brass plunger power switch. Not sure how, but after 6-7 rounds of firing consistently the brass plunger power switch works its way upwards relative to the optic housing and the optic turns off. Some duct tape fixed it for the day, but definitely something I would need to address for use on this gun. It might not happen on other guns with different recoil impulse. Possible fixes are removing the brass plunger power button and applying a knurling texture to it to increase the effective OD. Another possibility is to drill and tap the housing for a small nylon or rubber tipped set screw for adjustable retention/friction on the brass power switch plunger. Some field expedient tape might be the solution for now. This optic was purchased originally meant for my Type 56 SKS Paratrooper project, so maybe the recoil impulse that gun is just different and the issue disappears.

2) The zeroing adjustment locking set screws seem to affect the zero. There are a pair of ~0.050" allen hex set screws in the housing which I believe serve the function of locking out the zero adjustment. The problem? Tightening them down seems to move the POI up and to the left by like 12-16 MOA. I believe my first attempt at experimentally testing for zero retention with this optic was confounded by this. I'm not 100% sure, but it appears this is happening, so I chose to just no use the elevation/windage adjustment locking set screws.

There was an age when I wouldn't post such /akg/ related content in /arg/, back when you know, words meant something, but this general has become such trash bullshit slop unironically an /akg/ post in it is a step up from the usual content.

On neat you bought one of the pre installed FRT setups. Yeah my friend's M72 FRT setup originally made use of the Kono trigger shit and it literally was too painful IMO to use effectively. My last really good working FRT setup used an ALG AKT and it was fine.

Anyway: OKP-7 Cont.

3) Zero retention is still a bit of an unknown quantity. Because my initial test was confounded by the potentially POI shifting zero affecting adjustment set screws, I was only able to test zero retention with 100 rounds or so of 7.62x39 fired from this gun, and the combination of ammo, platform, and me being a bad shot, makes it hard to determine if zero was retained or lost after this 100 rounds. Pictures related. Zeroing and testing done at 25m. The initial 9 shot before group after zeroing at 25m had a group size of 5.73 MOA, with an offset from POA in elevation of -1.9 MOA and a POA windage offset of -0.1 MOA. The after 100rnds 9 shot group at 25m had a group size of 7.4 MOA (this is pretty freaking bad, like I said, shooter, ammo, platform, rest setup), and a offset from POA in elevation and windage of -1.64 MOA and +1.50 MOA respectively, indicating a potential zero shift of +0.26 MOA elevation and +1.6 MOA in windage.
The issue is that with group sizes of 5.73 MOA and 7.4 MOA, I'm not sure how to calculate and or determine the statistical significance of the apparent ~1.8 MOA shift to the center of the group. My hunch is that something like the standard deviation of the offset of any given shot in the initial group from the POA would be a good metric for the resolution with which this setup can measure a potential shift in zero.
Again, I would say that the zero retention is still unknown in absolute terms, but perhaps we can tentatively say that there is the possibility still that this gun has acceptable zero retention, especially for a 2-4 MOA AK.

C) Survived so far! I put about 250 rounds downrange underneath the optic. Baby numbers of course, but it has survived so far. No catastrophic breakage or failure, the window didn't go sailing out of the fixture, the optic did fine clanking around in a pile of guns in the back of the truck etc.

Overall I'm hopeful this optic can either be fleshed out by the end user to be something truly serviceable, or better yet I'll speak for myself when I say I would gladly stomach a $75-$150 price increase to say, $225-$300 vs ~$150 if the manufacturers can address all the issues we've discussed so far.

Wish they improved the optic.

To be fair I did tell her I wanted a few days to think about things because she didn’t seem to care about me or my life and then she blamed everything on me and blocked me. Like it’s my fault she’s got a kid and love bombed me then decided that she wasn’t interested enough to care about what I’m doing or my life. It’s so dumb man. No wonder her baby’s daddy is a 12 time convicted felon and she got divorced from her first husband. She was so hot and cold with me that it made me sick to my stomach. Never not listening to those feelings again. She’d be like hyper interested in me one moment then ignore my texts for 12 hours the next and complain about her family all night when she did text me back. Really annoying toxic shit.

Cerakote or rattlecan for an even color is my best suggestion.

Flat Desert Earth sounds to me like any color that is matte and dirt/sand color, makes sense with manufacturer varaibility (also material considerations. Certain dyes can make plastics/polymers weaker)

Marky mark followed the proven formula: a barrel nut you can shim and time out to mil-spec torque values, a positive lockup between the handguard and barrel nut (certain manufacturers *cough cough*wilson combat* manufacture a certain amount of slop in the interface to be less demanding on correct timing), and a modicum of thought given to rigidity.
Even the match dudes who just need free float handguards and use a pinned FSB have the correct idea:
But for shooting point-blank distances (0-200 yards) with a LAM or BUIS your standard basic friction fit rails work fine. Only the Larue/Troy hipsters and KAC hypebeasts disagree.

Oh, forgot to mention the poverty "tube" handguards like UTG get the barrel nut wrong in case you were wondering (cut en masse overseas, can barely achieve mil-spec torque (I've seen 30 foot pounds in some manuals), and have to do insane things like rockset your handguard to the barrel nut even if you can.

Unless your lower/upper is out of spec, you don't need it. Actually, you don't need it at all. At best it makes the rear push pin require a punch to get out instead of just being able to push it with your fingers and at worst it breaks and a piece of it works gets loose in your lower or stuck in the trigger and results in a stoppage that requires separating the upper and lower to clear.
>>
>>64879811
Bruh its a piece of rubber that puts a little tension on your breakdown pin.
That's it
You could do it with a bit or cork and a knife yourself in 15 minutes.
Yeah, you have to use a flat end or knife to get the breakdown pin out, oh well.
>>
>>64879815
On a bench gun or range toy I'm with you, but if it's a gun you depend on I think it's good to be able to separate the receivers without a tool.
>>
>>64879811
Its not about need its wanting to not be annoyed by the slop. Its as simple as that
>>64879819
Use a bullet from your mag and push the pin out
>>
>>64879825
It's nearly as annoying to need a tool to separate the receivers, if not more so...
I've seen people use O-rings on the lug to solve the slop problem and some people put a foam earplug under the lug, but all of these solutions make the pivot pin harder to use. A tradeoff I guess.
>>
>>64879830
>It's nearly as annoying to need a tool to separate the receivers, if not more so...

The replacement went in correctly but it took a ton of swings with the hammer. It’s an lmt mars lower and I guess mine has super tight tolerances. It’s a pretty desirable trigger guard though right?

Honestly anon it depends. If you're larping at classes and pushing your good shit often at the range, i.e. making full use of the good ammo, then I would zero for the good ammo. If it's rare to actually shoot your good ammo, or to need to, I would zero for the ammo you use most often at the range which I assume is the m193. You'd be wasting ammo reremembering poi shift between the good ammo and the range ammo and might calcify bad muscle memory for when you ever need to use the serious ammo. That being said understand you'll probably be using whatever you're zeroed for in an emergency but it's unlikely m193 would be insufficient
