I don't know why but child soldiers trigger unnatural aggression in me. I guess it's because of the realization that i could kill an objectively weaker opponent with impunity since they're still armed and hostile. But to answer your question, going by information I remember hearing from a documentary in which a CIA spook or advisor recalling his time in south east asia asking the same question of "What weapon is best for a child soldier?" the minimum requirement was that the child has to be atleast taller then the weapon. The rifle has to be length wise below his chin IIRC if he puts it on the ground and stand right beside it.

Realistically, the youngest an effective child soldier could be is maybe around 10-11 years old. Anything younger is too fragile and stupid to be a soldier. Also giving younger soldiers (8-11) submachine guns and the older ones (12-15) rifles would be better since most people can shoot a rifle moderately well by 12 and the younger ones can just use things like the 9mm Colt SMG.>>64878983
