Why did they make it look like an M16 tho
>>64881626because it's cool
>>64881626It was the style at the time
dude the ak style shotgun looks just as goofy
>>64881626tactical shotguns are trapped in an infernal cycle of trying to approach AR controls to the point of failure in a fruitless attempt to make AR users pick up and adopt a shotgun.
>>64881626AR ergos are good and everyone is familiar with them. Simple as.
>>64881626They wanted to make it look like the M60 but your mom already owned the trademark for "the pig"
>>64881626The only part that really reads as AR specific visually is the carry handle and that's because, like an AR, it's straightline recoil and needs raised sights. Straightline recoil is a pretty good idea for an automatic shotgun
>>64881626Most select fire shotguns that aren’t AK based are decedents of the original Atchisson Assault shotgun which looked kind of like an AR if you squint.
It doesn't.
>>64881861fire control group, dust cover, stock
>>64881626Saiga
>>64881626Because it's cool, and Daewoo had experience making licensed M16s.The Koreans wanted a rifle with a long-stroke gas piston, like the AKM or FNC, but they still liked 5.56mm and wanted the ammo commonality, and having used and license manufactured M16s for themselves for a while, they really liked a lot of its features and wanted to incorporate those for their future rifles and carbines. When doing a take on Michael Atchisson's combat shotgun much later, they decide to incorporate those same kinds of features because they were good on the rifles, and because they were experienced with this kind of manufacturing.>>64881804Tactical shotguns are a dated concept in the 21st century, at most making sense for police and SWAT. If you're looking for fire superiority in a gunfight, then 210rds of .223 or something similar in 30rd mags is a lot more practical and versatile than 50-60rds of 12-Gauge, be that as loose shells for a tube mag, or as 10rd mags or 20rd drums (which conventional shotgun shells are never 100% foolproof with, hence why tube mags live on).Shotguns also don't have the same kind of range, and are terrible against even soft armor, so it's even less great for frontline combat. Shotguns for breaching is another matter, but you don't tend to use those as direct weapons, and shotguns may still find a stable role as a light drone defense weapon at some point.Shotguns are however really good and really inexpensive jack of all trades guns in a civilian life context, which you can hunt almost anything with, and which is most likely going to cover your ass in any kind of home defense scenario (buckshot and slug is still excellent at instantly eliminating rogue Cleetuses and Tyrones, who virtually never wear armor).
>>64881861Those are there, but they also made it out of aluminum, it has the dustcover as said, as well as the pistolgrip and fire controls (which I'm pretty sure interchange with M16 ones). It's not a 1 to 1, it takes a lot of departures, but it's still there.>>64881867Sorta, he made multiple prototypes. Pic related was his first one, aside from the obvious M16 handguard, you see the Thompson pistolgrip, and I believe that the fire control was adapted from a leftover 1918A2 BAR one.
>>64881867Here's his 1972 prototype, and you can see that it already looks a LOT like the one he started getting rolling in the 2000s.As for descendants, I don't think that's true, there's plenty of others. Hi-Standard made a tacticool bullpup version of one of their hunting automatics, and the Pancor Jackhammer was a pretty unique design which is preciously little like Atchisson's.Then you have the SPAS-12 and SPAS-15, along with Benelli's various automatic shotguns, and H&K were experimenting with their CAWS, competing with some kind of automatic shotgun which AAI were submitting to the same program.
>>64885617There is no better tool for dealing with tweakers and crackheads than a 12 gauge. No amount of speed or fent can keep their empty broken hearts pounding after a center mass hit from 00 buckshot. It is also more than capable of handling any psycho ex and provides good area spread for those roving gangs of scammers in green sashes. Thats like 90% of justifiable self defense cases right there. Road ragers and bear defense probably make up the rest and there is a damn good argument that a shockwave or V3 would be perfect tools for those though maybe a bit unwieldy if you’re having to roll down the window on some dickhead that doesn’t understand you can zipper from the shoulder.
>>64885631>There is no better tool for dealing with tweakers and crackheads than a 12 gauge. No amount of speed or fent can keep their empty broken hearts pounding after a center mass hit from 00 buckshot.100% agreeing, which is why I think shotguns are still a good choice of home defense weapon. Shit just works. With the tax gone on shorties, and them maybe even becoming Title 1 Firearms in a not too distant future, I can envision a new widespread standard of home defense shotguns. Imagine a Shockwave style gun but with a stock, light, sling, and shell holder, you could grab it and immediately be ready for anything.

>>64885646>shockwavethis little nigga been on my mind, no cap
>>64883282I don't remember Abe speaking French.
>>64881666It's still the style now.
>>64885782Nice rifle, but this is a thread about shotguns.
>>64886788It was the style at the time.
