Friendly reminder that the Miami Dade shootout was solved by 6 shots of .357 magnum, really only 2 shots as 3 missed completely, and 1 struck non fatally but was immediately followed by a fatal shot. The chad magnum wielder even used the final shot in the cylinder to 1 tap the second shooter. Instead of having all .38 special revolvers and ammo replaced with dedicated .357 magnum as well as filtering out incompetent shooters, they decided to cope and lower standards while running through the fiasco of watering down other chad calibers like 10mm and .40 s&w

That's a trick question, he's perpetually zonking out on pills. Oxy iirc

I don't think they even make oxycontin anymore. He's probably just on fentanyl same as the plebs who read his garbage books.

I'm pretty sure the real moral was to have the agents on a stakeout against heavily armed bank robbers be more consistently armed. There were two agents with an AR-15 and an MP5 on the assignment, but they weren't present for the shootout. So it was mostly FBI agents with revolvers and pump actions getting BTFO by a guy with a mini-14 until the (wounded) agent with the magnum blasted the two (also wounded) bank robbers as they tried to GTFO.

It's wild how it took until the later Hollywood shootout to learn that pistols don't do well against rifles and patrol rifles are a good idea. No, instead we have to piddlefuck around with 10 and 40 and 357 sig only to go back to 9 because it's totally better now guys (it isn't but the standards have fallen that far)

Uh? You don't seem to understand terminal ballistics. A 165g 40S&W is going to penetrate significantly more.
In the miami dade testing the issue was only reaching vitals on a bad angle shot.
Paul Harrell re tested this which a mocked up arm and body and even the modern 9mm didn't do so well.
Energy doesn't kill people or stop them in pistols. Momentum does. Or more simply put the hole through the vitals does. The old 357 158g hunting ammo they just relabeled police ammo with the exposed lead top that looked like it was cut by pinking shears was absolutely devastating. That's the ammo that got the 357 mag it's man stopper rep. Penetration was amazing and by today's standards would be considered "over" even though that's a retarded take.
>>
>>64882454
*More than the 125g 357 mag shit that they use today.

It's kind of even worse than that, since off the top of my head I don't think any of the guys with revolvers had speed loaders. The one guy with a shotgun took a hit to the arm so had to one hand it during the shootout. And one of the guys with a semi-automatic pistol lost his glasses so so he couldn't see shit.

Underpowered pistol rounds is the surface level thing people talk about from the shootout, but it really was a cluster fuck of so many other little things.

Post of pure revisionism. The classic load that gave .357 magnum its reputation were the 125gr sjhp loads from federal and Winchester, not the 158s. Those are both poor loads for use through automotive barriers due to their soft construction. You've got no idea what you're talking about.
>>
>>64884245
In the future guys like you will say light recoil 9mm training ammo is what gave the 9mm its stellar reputation.
125g is NOT what gave the 357 magnum it's reputation. The 158g loading was standard, common, and what gave the 357 it's great reputation. The 125g loadings were often the cause of many of its failures to penetrate, failure to stop. Fucking idiot.
>>
>>64884291
You're making this all up, there are plenty of period sources on the subject that clearly identify the load as the 125gr SJHP. You're literally the only person I've ever seen claim it was the 158gr SJHP. Put up or shut up, fag.

Which they only BARELY got off, Platt got to butcher half a dozen feds before Mireles could finally put him down, and by that point Platt had already been shot quite a few times (including by Mireles using a shotgun prior), and his blood pressure was real low.
He could have iced him with a .25 at that point.

In my opinion, the group were probably MOSTLY fairly competent agents, but they were also reckless and foolish. They knew fully well that Platt and Matix were heavily armed and very dangerous, they should have brought rifles and shotguns and already be dressed in body armor. Better yet, wait for backup.
If they all had .357s and 10mm Autos, maybe that would have improved their odds some, but I think that them picking up some old fuddtastic .30-30s and 12-Gauges from a pawnshop would have served them yet better.

so it did take 6 shots
also I thought the guy was using .38 special in a .357 revolver?
>>
>>64888404
No, he was one of the only guys actually carrying .357 mag while others had .357 revolvers but loaded with .38 special. It was one giant clusterfuck of retards and they shouldve just waited to ambush them instead of being obvious glowies tailing them as blatantly as humanly possible. The ensuing caliber wars were a cope to shift blame and justify retaining incompetent feds

there's a vid on youtube from the armorer of that film. he was talking about what guns they used and where they got them and how he doesn't think a tommy gun was actually used in he ambush but included it anyway because the producers asked for it. I think he said he was pretty sure there was a colt monitor but most of the guns used were like model 8s and then the cops would have dropped those and picked up shotguns

Judging by his Twitter, he's been relapsing pretty hard, and he's not in a creative headspace anymore, like he used to be, the drug use is probably taking a heavy toll on his brain by this point.

Not that everything he ever wrote was always gold, but even when he did something that was kinda crap, it'd still be FUN crap, like Maximum Overdrive.
