What animal is the easiest/best choice for someone getting into hunting? I have a Mav88
>>
Duck
>>
>>64884927
Ducks and smaller birds like quail. Depends though.
>>
>>64884953
>>64884964
I thought duck hunting required like a boat and special ammo and shit?
>>
>>64884974
>required a boat
you can do it in an open field, quail you can find in trees too
>special ammo
Literally just birdshot, for birds.
>>

>What animal is the easiest/best choice for someone getting into hunting?
If you are serious about finding food, then the recommendation the others gave you is your best bet. If you have good aim and want to kill things, then go hunt an invasive species. Slugs and/or buckshot can kill a boar.

>>64884974
>required like a boat
No.
>and special ammo
Some states ban lead birdshot. Not to worry as in that state you'll be able to find whatever is legal in that area (steel, tungsten, etc.)
>>
>>64885168
All states ban lead. It's a federal ban.
>>
>>64884927
Squirrel. You can bag squirrel with the cheapest .22lr rifles and the cheapest ammo. If you want to be super accurate then try .17hm2 or if you live in a area with less foliage so you'll see them over a longer distance then try .17hmr.
Squirrel don't weigh anything. You can carry four out in a shopping bag. They are small and easy to process. Squirrel recipe is abundant. Hunt .
>>
>>64884927
If you live in an area with a lot of oak or walnut trees, hunting squirrels shouldn't be hard. They like to sit still while they chew on a nut or acorn.
>>
>>64884974
The easiest way to get into duck hunting is to go with someone who is an established duck hunter. Like ice fishing, it's a lot more lucrative and enjoyable to go with someone and learn why they have what they have and how they use it, and make your own way from there.

>>64885179
>All states ban lead
You're generalizing, lead ammo isn't banned for use hunting, just banned for use while hunting certain species.

>>64885186
>>64885185
This is the way to go, OP. Squirrel and rabbit hunting are fun with a .22 or shotgun. They're easy to clean, and while they don't taste quite like chicken, they do taste like whatever you marinade them in so you can use the same (chicken) recipes.
>>
>>64884927
Squirrel. It's year-round in many places whereas your window for waterfowl is closed. Why do no hunts recommend stuff they know nothing about?
>>
>>64885720
>You're generalizing, lead ammo isn't banned for use hunting, just banned for use while hunting certain species.
You're missing the point. >>64885168
claims lead birdshot bans vary by state. They don't. Stop misunderstanding and/or moving goalposts.
>>
>>64885731
>Why do no hunts recommend stuff they know nothing about?
It's the same reason why OP didn't bother to mention his location. Human beings are fundamentally retards, and they like to seek attention.
>>
>>64885720
>You're generalizing, lead ammo isn't banned for use hunting, just banned for use while hunting certain species.
the other guy said waterfowl hunting was only lead free in some states so the second guy corrected him and said it was lead free in all states
>>
>>64885179
Guy from >64885168 here, fair enough. I knew my state banned it, but I didn't know all states banned it. Go easy on >64885720, there's no malice in his words. He's not moving the goalpost because it wasn't him who made the erroneous point; I made the erroneous point.

>>64885720
>>64885731

That's a good point.

how much harder is it to hunt rabbits? I don't want to eat squirrels
>>
>>64886092
>I don't want to eat squirrels
Why? Also heavily depends. I almost never see rabbits on public, like ever. Once.
>>
>>64887021
because squirrels are tree rats
>>
>>64884927
>>64884927
Depends on where you live. I'd say if you live in a state with abundant deer and laws that allow you to shoot does and hunt over bait, deer. Shooting birds and small game is more work for less reward.
>>
>>64887043
rabbits are rodents
Squirrel is just a lot of work for a little meat. I like rabbit. Birds you can flush for sure. But fur is also a thing, and it's cheap because people aren't into it now.
>>
>>64884927
>What animal is the easiest
People are notoriously supid and complacent. I am always at condition ORANGE while out of doors.
>>
>>64887050
people normally eat rabbits. normal people don't eat squirrels
>>
>>64887058
>people normally eat rabbits
No. Most people DON'T eat rabbits. Maybe people in Flint.
>>
>>64887061
I'm sure I've had rabbit before. Rabbits are a way more normal meat than squirrel
>>
>>64887050
>rabbits are rodents
They're lagomorphs. They used to be classified as rodents, but not anymore.
>>
>>64887277
>They're lagomorphs
Lagomorphs are absolutely terrifying! https://youtu.be/JDCJsjFR_Gk
>>
>>64884927
Rabbit/squirrel.
>>
>>64887061
>>64887080
Rabbit is super common in Europe. It's also definitely more common than squirrel since meat rabbits (domesticated) exist specifically to serve that marker whereas squirrels never have been.
>>
>>64887043
More tree chicken for me then.

>>64887050
lagomorph =/= rodent

>>64887058
If you're a small game hunter, it's normal to eat both. Or maybe you live somewhere you can buy farm raised rabbit meat like Euroanon then sure. If you live in the UK (doubt) I'd say it's best you learn to eat the greys as they're invasive over there. Over in the US, I don't think we have invasive squirrels at all. Just starlings and house sparrows, neither of which I want to eat due to parasites alone. Nutria is the only small-ish game invasive I can think of that anyone eats and their range is incredibly regional.

I live in the north east US
