I just bought a VR 80 for dirt cheap but it smells like dogs and cigarettes. How can I get the smell out? I’m afraid it’s soaked into the polymer. My wife doesn’t want it in the house it smells so bad.
Also Turkish imports thread.
>>
>I just bought
>stock image
>>
>>64888554
Scrub the shit out of it with Hoppes #9? That way it'll smell like bananas.
If it reeks so hard why did you buy it?
>>
>>64888570
Probably why it was so dirt cheap.

I have a VRPA-40, the pump version, with over 1.2k shells through it and it runs great. IMO, people tend to regurgitate reddit (redurgitate?) on this topic. It's similar to Chinese body armor.
>>
>>64888596
I had to warranty these things for a living (not the VR80 specifically but the same type of Turk AR style shotguns). The design is fundamentally dogshit, but it can work if you get one put together on a good day out of decent parts, you use decent ammunition and maintain it. If yours is a pump action you have eliminated about 3/4 of the problems.
>>
>>64888608
Probably 4/4 with the pump, IMO.
>>
>>64888618
Nah, you aren't safe from the handguard coming loose or the bolt lug failing and launching a jet of flame out the ejection port.
>>
>>64888554
Take it apart. I mean every single part. Scrub every part with solvent, including all the insides and areas you don't normally see.

If the smell is soaked into the plastic you can sometimes get it out by soaking in bleach but success rates aren't super high, and you have to be careful because the bleach can damage some materials, it causes rust of metal pins and screws, etc. If the plastic is that bad just replace the stock. It shouldn't be possible for the smell to "soak in" to the metal parts, so it's just a matter of cleaning those enough.
>>
>>64888640
Solvent + polymer doesn't sound like a good idea.
>>
>>64888628
Two cases of never had that happen. The only beef I've had is that it's picky with some shells (federals suck) and the stock 5 / 9 round magazines are grossly inferior to the new 10s.
Put a brake on it (GK-03) and a red dot and it's a lovely combat shotgun. Magazines are bulky as hell but you can fit several in an Idogear GP tall.
>>
>>64888645
It's just a matter of using the right one. Alcohol of any sort is plastic safe. Most gun cleaning solvents are plastic-safe. Now sure, you wouldn't want to go soak your stock in MEK but there's not that many things that are likely to harm the stock.
>>
>>64888664
Yeah you might get away with it if you know enough about chemistry to know that this particular solvent does not dissolve this particular plastic but if you don't and are just dunking it in a batch of whatever strong chemical then don't be surprised when you end up with a lump of goo where your gun used to be. You would be better off using hot soapy water and giving it a good scrub with a brush.
>>
>>64888674
>if you don't know what you're doing research it first
No shit, Sherlock.
>>
>>64888698
Even if it doesn't melt the plastic it will strip all the paint off of it.
>>
>>64888596
>it runs great.
If Turkish shotguns are so good, why do 99% of them fail James Reeves's burndowns? 1 Stoeger has passed (on its second attempt) by shooting 500 shells without breaking (it did have 25+ jams though), every other Turkshit shotgun failed.
>>
>>64888554
Buy an ozone generator off amazon and run it with the gun in as enclosed a space as possible. A big plastic storage bin would be ideal. Run that for 24 hours some place far away from where you like to breathe, since it's poisonous. If you can smell the ozone, you're getting too much.

If the smell's not gone after a day just try for longer sessions, it'll be eliminated eventually.
>>

>break-in periods
LOL
>>
Nice post OP, seems to have gone over everyone’s head
>>
>>64888783
Most machines have break-in periods. Engines, transmissions, firearms. Things that don't need break-in are things manufactured to very loose tolerances, like 1911s manufactured to original Browning specs, turbine generators, and CAT machines (which are broken in at the factory before shipping, in most cases). Nothing wrong with operating a machine in a specific, controlled way until parts wear in to each other and everything runs normally.
>>
>>64888716
because his burndown is an arbitrary torture test and I'm not running the VRPA that hard. I clean it regularly and it doesn't get more than 120 shells a trip. Why do speakers and amps blow when you run them clipped at max volume all the time?
If things go to pot the torture test won't represent combat usage either.
>>64888775
This too.

Why do people even buy these dogshit turk shotguns?
Being poor isn't an excuse in a world where the hawk/pardner chink 870 and the maverick 88 exist
>>
>>64888847
Because they're magfed, so they're faster on the reload and have significantly higher capacity. Largest available 1919-pattern drum is 30 shells.
Downside is that the magazines are huge, $15 a mag on a good day, and are parasitic weight once empty. The drums are like frying pans and weigh like they're cast iron, but that part is a skill issue.
>>
>>64888797
1. If you buy a cheap shotgun and now need to spend money on 250 very specific shells, you didn't buy a cheap shotgun. Furthermore, most of the time, the Turkshit will continue to give problems after the suggested break-in period is over.
>Most machines have break-in periods.
Yes, when you buy a brand new car, most manufacturers (not all brands, as companies like Honda or Volvo perform the break-in process at the factory) will ask you to not stress the engine too much for the first 200-1,000 miles (depends on which car you bought), the engine still performs reliably during that period.
>>
>>64888817
>because his burndown is an arbitrary torture test and I'm not running the VRPA that hard.
500 rounds shouldn't be that much for a gun, especially something as low pressure as a shotgun. Also keep in mind he'll consider the jam-o-matics a success, all he requires from the test is that the gun is still operational at the end. He is very lenient compared to the rest of the torture test content creators doing 1,000+ rounds on firearms and doing retarded, pointless stuff like shoving mud inside the action.
>Why do speakers and amps blow when you run them clipped at max volume all the time?
Bad analogy; if James was shooting +p+++ bubba loads, then the analogy would make sense. A more realistic analogy would be the speakers blowing out at regular volume because the party lasted 3 hours and the company that designed and manufactured the speaker only expected it to see 15 minutes of use at a time.
>>
>>64888921
>250 very specific shells
Should be using them already, lol.
>continue to have issues
Not my diagnosis.

This board continues to be allergic to new things. Reeves' testing doesn't mean a whole lot unless you're taking the gun to hell.
>>
>>64888940
Like said before, it's an arbitrary torture test. My VRPA runs great. Professional 2 and 3 gunners swear by the VR80.
>muh analogy
not how speakers work amigo.
>>
>>64888943
>Not my diagnosis.
True, you won't have issues if you never use your equipment at all. Let me guess, you've owned the shotgun for 2-6 years, and you've yet to fully complete the 250-shell break-in period.
>>
>>64888949
>not how speakers work amigo.
Exactly. How would you have felt if you hadn't eaten breakfast this morning?
>>
>>64888954
I've had over 1.2k shells through it in just over two years. Yeah, federal shells suck through it. Rest are solid.
>>64888958
lol. My analogy was correct. Thermal overload kills amps and that kills speakers. Your analogy failed to account for that, but that's way off topic.

Bot posts. OP, don't sweat the damn VR-80. Clean her up, get her smelling like a gun. People that actually compete with it swear by it. There is a robust supply of spare parts and upgrades so you can rice the fuck out of it like a '98 civic, reduce recoil, improve ergonomics, etc.
>>
>>64889250
That’s the plan.
Haven’t done much research on parts or upgrades but based on the feed ramp and inner barrel it has never been shot so my plan was to break it in and then see what I want to do after that. It’s already got a better handle and stock combo installed and tons of 9rd oem mags. I think it’ll be a fun project gun.

The slide release also had the paint worn away like he was carrying it in his pants with no holster and his belly sweat wore it off. Very good deal on it though. >Take a hike to Brian Enos' forum and see that actual competition shooters are using... VR80s.
Anon, you seem obsessed with competition shooters. They used Benelli M2s for years while denying they had reliability issues until the Benelli M4 came out, and they finally admitted the M2s were finicky garbage. Comp shooters were using CMMG PCC for a while, and when the Ruger PC-9 and the 3rd gen SIG MPX came out, most of them dropped the CMMG because it sucked. I see them all the time with their "mid-range" race guns (more than $1k, less than $3k) that only feeds "x" kind of ammo. For competition shooters, it's fine to buy a gun and spend a ton of money getting aftermarket parts for it, and it's fine that it only feeds certain super specific ammo, but for a regular person, that's a lot of unnecessary hassle.

>>64890069
>start using shotguns with some capacity.
Anon, the stick mags have low capacity, and the drums don't even work.
>>
>>64890077
>and must now spend a ton of money on the "break-in"
Factory recommended. I never had to break my VRPA in.
>and also spend more money on aftermarket parts so that it might work.
One fat ass of a strawman. The riced up competition-modded VR-80s are built for minimizing recoil to reduce splits. The VR-80 works fine out of the box. You don't know what you're talking about and it shows.
>Anon, you seem obsessed with competition shooters.
Because they show what the VR-80 is capable of and they're not stuck in this 1995 headspace where magazine-fed shotgun = bad.
>They used Benelli M2s for years while denying they had reliability issues until the Benelli M4 came out, and they finally admitted the M2s were finicky garbage
And now they use VR-80s. Telling, isn't it?
>but for a regular person, that's a lot of unnecessary hassle.
And they do that to minimize splits, as already said.

>Anon, the stick mags have low capacity
Nine to ten rounds is low capacity? An M2 holds five in the tube. A tube is much slower on the reload unless you can quad load reliably under pressure. Hell, you can buy sticks that are 19 or 21 shots.
>and the drums don't even work.

You're misquoting the infographic. They need a ton of work to make competition spec. If you try running a stock VR-80 with a factory nine rounder when everybody else is running a brake, mid-barrel comp, new furniture, a 21 round stick mag that is literally the length of their torso, and more, you're going to be at a huge disadvantage.
>Cope.
The source you're quoting also quotes recoil reductions on brakes and such of over 40%.
>They know most of them need tons of work to run well.
See above. Run well in a competition and produce competitive splits in combination with shooter skill is not the same as will run if occasionally asked to for home defense purposes or the range.
>A few of the ones losing competitions do. It is telling.
Ah yes, entire community of guys rolling VR-80s takes it up the ass at every competition they go to. How do you propose a shotgun with 21 rounds ready to go with half recoil because of a huge-ass tank brake on the foreend or a mid-barrel comp, and only takes a few seconds to reload another 21 shells into at most, loses to a Benelli with, say, 12 shots in an aftermarket long tube?
This is what I mean by la la land. You guys aren't looking at the facts, you're just picking numbers and misquoting shit.

>Even to the guy shilling them, they are "project guns, not defensive guns."
Conceded, they aren't going to be AS reliable as a tube-fed and defensive guns are reliability first, tricks second. If the gun does well enough though it can absolutely be promoted to "defensive status" but you need to test it first. That's kinda gun 101.

Lumping all turk shotguns in the same bin again.
>You said the drums from that company are G2G and the reality is that they've been known to have problems.
Has a lot to do with people not knowing how to load them and the drums hanging up on the rim, actually. Skill issue. You press down, palm rack to the back. Press down, palm rack to the back. If you hang the rims up on other rims the gun will hang up and double-feed.

>You might be illiterate.
I see nobody contested my claim the three of you's are coordinating, thank you for defending your butt-buddy I guess.
Good lord, really bringing out the artillery to keep these turkish shotguns in the mud, are we?
>he was stating that guns made by RIA have a decent rep, but guns made by Derya and rebranded as RIA don't have a decent rep.
Yes, which is a ridiculous claim because the VRPA-40 and 80 have good reputations. 60 is meh. You have to discount the twenty people who say the exact same thing on reddit because they're afraid of downdoots.
>Yeah, it'd be pretty hard to find a second one without any issues.
Every other vrpa I've seen is fine except one noodle-armed dude who genuinely did not have the fucking strength to rack the pump without short-stroking, and it's a buttery smooth action too so I didn't understand his issue.

>it will live in that corner forever and it will be a constant reminder of your bad choice
I actually enjoy taking it to the range and people next to me, acting like they're Chris Kyle at 50 yards with a braked creedmoor or whatever on a bench, packing up and leaving because the fireballs from my brake disrupt their Coriolis effect. Guilty pleasure.
>wow your gay hooker had cold sores instead of warts so great much wow
Projecting? I never made this about hookers but you're bringing up the sluts every other post.

>there are defective VR-80s out there, like most products. Fortunately they have this thing called a warranty
Yes, but if the QC is bad enough then even the fixes under warranty will be bad.
>I'm talking about the people who aren't blowing 3.5k on a magfed shotgun. It's a better gun, absolutely, but the price of entry is astronomical versus this.
Fair, but there are a lot of options in between that aren't as bad as Turkshit.
>Unless there's samefagging I'm currently engaged in a 1v3 so I was referring to someone else there.
I'm the one not using frogposts. I lost my stash in an unfortunate event.
>they are anal as fuck about quality control.
They want the products they bought to work correctly? Say it ain't so.
>Conceded, they aren't going to be AS reliable as a tube-fed and defensive guns are reliability first, tricks second.
I win then. Enjoy your project gun, anon. As long as you're pro-2A we're cool.
>Lumping all turk shotguns in the same bin again.
Because the shotguns coming from the country will have 1 or 2 companies making parts, and every other company will buy parts from those 1 or 2 companies. Gun sellers will end up seeing the same defects in many different brands of Turkshit.
>drums hanging up on the rim
Taking a risk on the shitty drums seems unnecessary when the long stick and tape exist.
>Comparatively speaking, they beat other turkish guys by a mile.
From my experience, Turkish shotguns are the worst level of Turkshit because the government regulations are lower than with other firearms, so they have an easier time cutting corners. I might gamble on a Canik; I will not gamble on any of their shotguns.

>Yes, which is a ridiculous claim because the VRPA-40 and 80 have good reputations.
Nah.
>You have to discount the twenty people who say the exact same thing on reddit
I know you'll never believe me, but I have no idea what they are saying. I just don't care what they have to say either.
>Every other vrpa I've seen is fine
Doubt.
>>
>>64890203
Out of these three dudes, you're the most reasonable. I agree the VR-80 isn't a good defensive gun UNLESS you've thoroughly tested it yourself and it satisfies reliability requirements. My Vrpa is solid and I put enough shells through it to know that, so it's satisfactory for me.
I will still reach for my AR first if necessary. It's better suited for home defense especially since body armor is now mainstream (expired police IIIA is like forty bucks a vest nowadays and still mostly works) and shotguns really lack authority there. Crackhead don't care if a rib or two is broken.
>drums hanging up on the rim
Er, this is with all 1919 pattern magazines. A lot of people load the shells wrong and that's where a lot of reliability problems show up.
>I might gamble on a Canik; I will not gamble on any of their shotguns.
And that is entirely your decision alone.

Then we've reached an impasse. I don't believe you, you don't believe me. Let's call it a draw.

>sheesh. You go to a range, right?
yea thats why if you want a slug gun you use a long barrel not a turk toob that looks like an ar you actual tard. granted at least you didnt try to use one of the bulpup ones but geez kid do better im out.
>>
>>64890219
>yea thats why if you want a slug gun you use a long barrel
My VRPA has a 20" barrel, it's not a VRPF-14 pirate blaster ya dunce. Rifled slugs are accurate to the B-zone no problem.
>but geez kid do better im out.
Admitting defeat then?

Low cost, big bang.

If someone's buying a cheap shotgun, he's likely not doing it for the love of shooting shells.
>>
>>64888554
there is a 90% chance you bought my old piece of shit. was it bright silver?

It might be like a wok, once you leave bad milk in it you'll never get the smell out.

>If someone's buying a cheap shotgun, he's likely not doing it for the love of shooting shells.
I was under the impression that he was recommending it as a general-use shotgun. but he later admitted it's just a hobby gun. See >>64890168
>Conceded, they aren't going to be AS reliable as a tube-fed
He might mistakenly believe I dislike mag-fed shotguns. I don't; I've just been disappointed with Turkshit multiple times.
>>
>>64891034
Yeah there was definitely some confusion earlier.
>He might mistakenly believe I dislike mag-fed shotguns. I don't; I've just been disappointed with Turkshit multiple times.
While not for you, this is true for a lot of people that dislike turkish shotguns. MAC-1014s and what not have less claimed issues than magfeds. As I mentioned earlier it's because people either use Promag shitmags or they load the magazines wrong and don't use the proper thumb-down, palm slide technique so the rim clears the rim below it.

Take it apart and use Dawn and hot water. The mist bottle Dawn is the shit and works even better. Scrub it with a nylon brush all over. Let soak until water starts to cool, repeat. Add washing soda for extra power. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Ozium original also works a little but it's not meant for direct application. Try not to get washing soda on the metal parts and rinse it off the plastic well; it's a salt after all. I hope you got it at a STEEP discount lol.

It was so disappointing to see RIA drop their domestic made shotguns for just being another anus disgorging turkslop. The M5 was interesting, being a flite king clone in a sea of 870 knock offs.
I tried one out once in the brief time they were in shops and it had a very smooth pump
>>
>>64892343
NTA but
>flite king clone
What in the FUCK. Also original Flite Kings are STUPID smooth. I'll have to keep my eye out for those; hope they don't have the action bar snapping the originals can suffer from. And is that 870 stock compatible? My god...
>>
Ive got prolly close to 5000 shells through my VR80, my only complaint is the piston gets retarded dirty retarded fast.
