Fire Point just published the first video of an FP-7 ballistic missile launch (probably filmed during testing)With sound:https://streamable.com/9bby2z

>who, if not us?Looks kinda like a Scud or a sounding rocket for science experiments. I was expecting something fatter like a Sapsan.
>>64907070according to their slides there's gonna be a thiccer version called FP-9
>>64907070It's been close to 15 years since Hrim-2 / Sapsan started development, I doubt will ever see it at this point, unfortunately
>>64907080So these are AD missiles? Or just ground targeting missiles designed off of air defense missiles?
IMO they should just focus on FP2 and FP5 Flamingo. Go all in on those
>>64907108One of the major parts in developing a good missile is figuring out the aerodynamics. FirePoint chose to avoid this to save a ton of R&D time and just clone the aerodynamics of the S300 interceptors, since that a known proven design. The internals are obviously custom and different.
>>64907116Naive viewpoint, ballistic missiles have a ton of benefits.
>>64907108these are designed as ground launched ballistic missiles first and foremost, with future potential to be used as aa interceptors
>>64907108Fire Point want to eventualy develop AD missiles from these. Actually the entire design is pretty much just a copied 48N6, with different internals and a composite body.https://defence-ua.com/weapon_and_tech/chomu_balistichni_raketi_vid_fire_point_fp_7_ta_fp_9_vigljadajut_jak_48n6_vid_rosijskogo_s_400-20971.html
>>64907041Does make me curious as to whatever happened to the Hrim-2's development. They've been saying for years they're just a bit away from mass production.I do get that Hrim-2 was born out of the older, slower, Soviet-style state procurement model, but still, they've had a decade+ on Fire Point to roll it out. Given how many re-designs its cousin the Neptune has undergone over the years, makes me think its stuck in scope-creep-hell. And unlike the Neptune didn't survive that.
>>64907177>whatever happened to the Hrim-2's developmentIt's a total shitshow if you look into the program:a) a big component of that were the solid rocket fuel engines and the chemistry for them, which was sabotaged by RU agents back in the day disrupting shit through SBU agents arresting people and disrupting crap with local chemical industry;b) pro-russian Yanukovich first strangled financing under the guise of "hurr-durr financial crisis" and then axed the program entirely by 2013;c) it's a product of old soviet MIC, which physically can't make shit fast and efficient;
>>64907070I had no idea HARM was that fucking huge. I thought it was just a little bigger than an amraam
>>64907041so it has a range of ~200km and a warhead that's 150kg. how many of those you would need to say zero out brigade headquarters
>>64907070The larger more traditionally shaped ballistic missiles like ATACMS/Iskander/Tochka are all built that way specifically to have longer range and/or heavier payloads. Because of this they also need more complex guidance systems and they are more expensive. I'm guessing based on the design that this missile is supposed to be way cheaper than the Sapsan and also way shorter ranged with a smaller payload. More equivalent to something like a GMLRS ER for 100-125 mile shots and not for 300 mile TBM launches.
>>64907118>figuring out the aerodynamics.Ok I know I'm going to sound very ignorant here, but I thought that was pretty well understood already. Obviously there's balance and specific control surfaces depending on the intended role. But all cruise/ballistic missiles are just cylinders with a pointy/rounded tip (with a few exceptions like the storm shadow. Id have figured that once you have the internals sorted out, the body would be pretty easy to figure out.
>>64907177Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't zelensky cut a bunch of weapons programs as an attempt to help improve relations with Russia?
>>64907041>>64907061>>64907073>>64907080>Wargoal of demilitarizing Ukraine>Ukraine now has a credible domestic ballistic missile industry>Ukraine now has a credible domestic cruise missile industryAt what point does Monke realize he fucked up?
>>64907070So much for US military superiority. All the best weapons here are French or made by the poorest state in Europe. Grim.
>>64907289With cruise missiles it's easier because they have thrust all during flight, and thus with some basic bitch control surfaces you can easily steer the missile more or less okay, even if is has imbalances and such. With a ballistic missile you basically use up all of the fuel pretty fast during launch and the missile mostly coasts on a ballistic trajectory, your capacity to steer shit is way more limited and trying to compensate to for imbalances will fuck up any sort of accuracy.
>>64907303And it's self-inflicted. Ukies could've been using all the arsenal of US stuff if the US weren't retarded.
>>64907254Depends on CEP and presenting ballistic defense. Your average RU brigade headquarters has next-to-nothing for ballistic threats though, so assuming a "decent" CEP you could close everything out in 4-6 hits. Maybe less depending on if the payload is basic-bitch HE or something more exotic.
>>64907309Don’t forget Germany>halt! We can’t give Ukraine our missiles. As compromise Give them money to finance their own missile program!I mean, that’s great for Europe and Ukraine but not German missile program
>>64907070>GammonJesus, look at the size of that cunt.
>>64907296He realized immediately. Don't you remember all those memes of a visibly distraught and mentally unstable putin shortly after the war really got going?
>>64907338Sunk cost fallacy can be a real bitch sometimes.
>>64907070Why would someone make a graphic about long range missiles but not state their ranges?
>>64907073>>64907080>200km rangeSo this is really just a prototype to show they can build this type of missile before funding the fp-9 as the real deal?
>>64907366Shorter range ones are also important, if available in quantity to hunt down targets of opportunity.
Can they arm it with cluster munition later down the line?
>>64907387Don't see why not. The western pscyhosis about cluster munitions is over, and they finally have something resembling an RnD pipeline going. Just need to get through the typical Ukrainian state retardation to get funding and procurement contracts.
>>64907061Anons, I've been watching this on loop for almost an hour and my erection hasn't gone down yet. What do I do?
>>64908673Fap&Cum
>>64907289yeah but the math requires a lot of mathing, isn't perfect, and even after you've mathed it you're still going to need to do a lot of testing and tweaking to make it perfectrockets R hard, so cheat
How much AD does Russia have left? What about compared to pre war? After 4 years of being thinned I believe there should be a lot less.
>>64907296let's not forget>pioneer an entirely new class of arms>world leader in drone warfare>ukie mic factories popping up all around europe
>>64907041>>64907061>first germs give them unearthed V-1 blueprints>now they have V-2 ballistic missiles, likely from the same sourceWhat's the ETA on crest-piloted flying discs?
