Is there a way to modernize the classic wide-brimmed helmet?
>>
>>64945017
Second one in panel two but make the sides extend over the back of the neck. If it was flexible it could snap or velcro to the collar of your vest so there would be no gaps.
>>
>>64945033
>Tactical morion
Fund it.
>>
>>64945040
Logically a reinforced crest with a spaced gap could help with direct hits from VOGs dropped from above and the edge could help with........And with a command detonated quad copter if they lower their head towards it.......and....and....

Fuck, it's a cope cage helmet isn't it?

No no no, just give the standard pot a little cape that attaches to the collar.

Possibly apocryphal but I also remember reading old scans of helmet development documents from the inter war era, but the problem with the kettle hat is directing shrapnel directly into your brain for the same reason it's so good protecting your face, shoulders and neck in melee combat.

What we really need is a high speed tactical bascinet
>Already has a Nods mount
>Coms and adaptive ear pro just put in the helmet shell, use the crown for storage space above the suspension liner
>Protects the neck and base of skull better than modern sallet derivative helmets
>Option for kevlar pelagrin/aventail for additional neck protection

Wasn't this design thrown out of the window after the Italians tried something similar and ended up getting slaughtered?
>>
>>64945017
Obsolete helmet design that assumes projectiles will only be raining down on you and not come up from below. Also assumes that the forebrain is the most important part of your brain, rather than the cerebellum. A hit to the forebrain is survivable, a hit to the cerebellum results in paralysis. And right next door is the pons, which controls stuff like heartbeat.
We have boring designs because they work, not because old designs were unfairly discontinued.
>>
>>64947920
The source that image is from is Helmets and Body Armor in Modern Warfare by Bashford Dean. You can find it on the internet archive. That one was only experimental but would stop a 45acp at 850 fps and weighed 8.5 pounds. Every nation that fought in WW1 experimented with body armor. And there was way more than people think, both issued and commercial. Real rifle rated armor was very rare and very heavy. There was the Brewster body armor, it could stop 303 at the muzzle but weighed 40 pounds and made you look like a trash can.

Also worth mentioning the rationale behind the design was mostly to stop shrapnel injuries that caused a substantial portion of casualties the same way helmets reduce head injuries from debris and so on. He had a whole section breaking down injuries by high and low velocity projectiles (rifle or pistol / shrapnel) and the armor is mostly mentioned for low velocity. I think he did hypothesize in the book that rifle rated body armor was possible but not practical at the time and he was more interested in reducing the severity of wounds. It's been a while since I read it.

Where the punchline, the personality, the 'anything' is just 'girl is cute'. People will dismiss dislike of this as gay, yet this is also deeply DEEPLY associated with transgenders because of their inability to not be a coomer nonstop.

It's the same reason why I like centurii'chan's pic about the judgment of paris (French wine testers deciding Californian wine was better in a blind taste test then being furious and wanting to rescind it when they learned it was from Napa valley) but I am less a fan of their pics where it's just

On this subject, did anyone experiment with lamellar or scale during WWI? Seems like that might have offered decent frag protection at a fraction of the weight of monolithic plates.
>>
>>64947696
>>64947920
Germans fielded armour in WW1, it was mostly for machine gunners in forward positions (not a lot of moving around) also note the extra layer on the helmet. The helmet with this heavy addition is supposedly bullet proof not just shrapnel proof
>>
>>64945017
Add a mylar veil. All that extra space means you can vent the heat so all you need is some kind of covering to block IR emissions from the skin.
>>
>>64948211
Yeah rifle rated armor wasn't practical until ceramic plates were invented in the 1960's.

Yes, several are in Bashford Dean's book and there may have been more that he wasn't aware of. Seems like it was a pretty common approach early in the war. In general they all had the same pros and cons. Pros were lightweight and flexible, cons were the plates only provided protection against low velocity frag and bullets had a habit of pushing the plates into your chest.
>One of the earliest types of body shields appearing in the British market was also a flexible one ; this was known as the Franco-British, since it was first manufactured in France and sold to British soldiers (Fig. 70). It was made up of eight vertical rows of rectangular plates which were linked together by steel rings, every plate on each of its four sides. Like the Berkeley jazeran, such a plastron could readily be worn under the tunic. Its weight was not great and it afforded protection from splinters and from low velocity shrapnel. As a defense against other missiles, it was well-nigh Fig. 70. "Franco-British cuirass," 1916-1917 valueless; its plates were unsupported, their marginal areas readily penetrated, and their material by no means of the best. Even under favorable circumstances, as when a bullet struck the center of one of these plates, it could resist scarcely more than a pistol bullet at the rate of 200 foot seconds, which is but about one third the strength of the British helmet.
Post WW2 studies by the US Army found the same problem with small plates. I think that's why you don't see many successful attempts at it. The Soviet 6B3 is probably the closest. But its plates are larger and thicker than a true scale or lamellar cuirass. And its a lot heavier too.

None of these designs were intended to make a man rifle-proof. But rifles did not kill most people, shrapnel and smaller projectiles (and rifles at longggggggg range) did.
Accordingly these armor sets would've actually have saved a lot of lives and prevented a great many injuries.
But they also cost money, and money is to be spent on jewish superiors and not goyim slavecattle.

I don't have it in front of me but i believe injury studies post WWI were one of the reasons why everyone but the bongs went away from the Brodie helmet. It may be apocryphal or just because it didn't help or protect the ears/side of the skull enough, but a brim to funnel shrapnel into the brain was one of the reasons for no tactical kettle helmets.
