Hello everyone. Went to the Longhorn Ammunition Plant remains in eastern Texas today. It’s embedded within the Caddo Lake Wildlife Management Area and free for the public to enter without a pass or permit. Me and a friend went there in our /k/it. Please wait kindly for the dump to finish. Hope there’s enough of you who’d still be interested in a thread like this

nice dump (and nice pictures too) :)
Awesome. Find any artifacts?
>>64949101Dirt daubers. They look like wasps but are mostly harmless. They live in those conical, wall-mounted tubes.
Thank you for a wholesome thread OP. As an oldfag, I would advise you (and every other anon) to cherish places like this. You don't know that you've been someplace for the last time until after the last time, and places like this have an unfortunate habit of disappearing.>but they'll never bulldoze all that concrete>said everyone before every cool concrete site was bulldozed>t. salty washingtonfag that's watched half of our coastal defense fortifications disappear or become private property in the last 30 years>>64948946Are those ventilation stacks? Is something under there?>>64949101Yes.>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organ_pipe_mud_dauber
>>64949212Nothing worth trying to bring back
>>64949129Now this is the kind of stuff that makes /k/ the magical place that it is. Excellent work stalking, lads. This place is now on my ruck-it list.
>>64949224Thank you for enjoying my thread. For now at least the ammunition plant is a superfund site protected by the Feds
>>64949237Dang. Every time I go someplace I try and bring at least something small back, like last time I was innadesert I brought a 9mm casing that I found back with me. Cool place you went to though. 10/10.
Lake City is relatively close to me. Would love to go see it. Don't know if that's possible.
Thanks OP, East Texas is always nicer than the rest of the state.
>>64948892Man it's been too long since my last visit out there, thanks for reminding about it
>>64949618>East Texas is always nicer than the rest of the state.I live in DFW and absolutely agree. I’ve never really given the eastern half enough appreciation
>>64949308Lake City is secured. Absolutely no authorized visitors.
cool pics man thanks
Neat, I love going put and checking plases like this out. There are a lot near me from the turn of the century, but they're heavily trafficked. I'd like to metal detect some place like this where no one is around to bother you (or fine you, as the case may be)
>>64949115its interesting how big the trees got in roughly 30-40 years. im assuming since there were tanks there no trees would exist when it was in operation.>>64948974
>>64951277Pine grows very quickly. The lore I heard growing up in the area is that there was a law for settlers to plant 2 trees in the place of every one cut down, so in order to avoid needing to wait for an oak or mesquite to grow they chose pine
>>64949129Thanks for sharing anon, always fun to see people actually getting out an exploring. Interesting feel to that one, the trees all grown up through stuff like that. Ruins of a lost civilization in some ways despite not being that long ago.
>>64951403It was really eerie walking around with all the broken concrete structures. It genuinely felt like Stalker. I mumbled in Russian while walking around there lol
bump
>>64948927>fleckyFucker, I work mine this morning!
>>64950923Much like Nammo.
>>64952444Nothing like that corporate shithole. Lake City is a federal site.
>>64948892Looks like you didn't encounter big doors. Shame, that's like the statue of liberty of the Caddo Lake WMA. Still it looks like you found some spots that not even I've seen before. Or maybe I have and it's been too long
>>64954400Big doors? Where’s that located in the WMA?
>>64954774According to the map it's at 32.683999,-94.142172. I don't have any of my photos with me right now so I had to steal one off jewgle. They're massive in person, a must-see and easily accessible off the main driving path
>>64948892when did y'all go out there? I live like 20 minutes away lmao>>64954400they locked the main entrance to big doors about 2 years back, but last i went out there the back entrance is open. kinda difficult to find tho
>>64956079Big doors is neat. We camped out there the first few times I went to stalker meets with the texas /k/ server.
Cool.pocs Op, thanks for sharing. The remains are surreal. It's hard to imagine rocket motors were once manufactured here.
>>64956113There's also an area out there that has warning signs for UXOs, which I can't think of many other areas like that which are publicly accessible. It's easily the coolest place in the state by sheer size and things to see
>>64949101Dirt dauber. They look like wasp but they are frens
>>64954847According to the other anon it’s not gonna be something I can access. Appreciate the coords though. >>64956079>when did y'all go out there?Sunday. I post regularly in the /ak/ thread so I notified them of when I was heading there, then dumped my photos in the evening.
good thread
