Is SORD (Australia/usa) any good?I’m the guy looking for my first chest rig.
>>64953986SORD is okayVery old gear but not awfulId really look at buying something with pre stitched pouches for your first rig vs buying pouches you have zero preference towards
>>64953986I agree with A2. First setup should be turnkey as possible. Run it, then when you run into limitations you'll know what to look for.
>>64954027>>64954062I think I will take that advice.Any other pre stitched rigs to look out for? The Northern Ireland one is top of the list now. I’ve heard of the South African p83, but I think the mag pouches are geared towards 7.62 unless I’m mistaken.
>>64954070>Pic relP83 is for R4(Galil) mags and M4 mags will sit way too deep in them to be usefulIdk you can jam a bunch of mini payday bars under your mags but people want too much for the P83. Also honestly the side pockets on the P83 suck butt compared to the NI rig. NI rig was very much the bongs drawing from the P83 which drew from the rhodesians which drew from the chicoms which drew from the etc etcThere are a shitload of commercial old prestiched rigs, its just much harder to suggest them due to smaller availability. Anything eagle, lbt, bae, crye or paraclete will do you good but availability and asian airsofter taxes make them less reliability.

There is no shield discussion around here and it's peculiar.
>>64954087I’m looking at the eagle industries mpcr. It’s a little more expensive, but I’ll gladly pay more for a decent rig.Thoughts?

Reebok steel toe, conductive soles make my feet hurt ALL DAY.
Genuine question. Is it cringe to wear a vest to an indoor range ? I feel like I would never get to wear one otherwise. Thoughts?

FrenchAnon here, continuing my quest for good European ballistic plates. I recently came across another French brand : Phygiatech.I reached out to them asking for ballistic test data or any form of certification. They sent me a VPAM 9 certification report, which is actually the first time a European manufacturer has provided me with a full official certification report rather than just internal ballistic test results or marketing claims. That said, I don’t have the detailed ballistic test results that are referenced in the certification’s appendix. Still, the certification itself implies that the plates successfully met the VPAM 9 requirements. They cost €300 (~350$) for 2.7kg (4,4lbs) in SiC.Given the price and weight, do you think this might be the best overall compromise? Or would the LORICA plates I shared in the previous thread be a better option?
>>649587542.7kg is six pounds, anon.Aside from that, those plates seem okay. VPAM-9 is way less than Level IV. It's even less than B-32 API. But the price is very low, all things considered. . .
>>64957349And you have been queer for a long time. It's just gotten worse. I was gaven you credit when everyone else was beating the wave to shit on you. Now, it's just common place.
>>64959396>gaven
>>64959152I checked the pic related and their website to confirm, this plate is actually VPAM-9 AND NIJ Level IV, but only certified to the former. The plates seem to ape the original Hesco 4600 on specs and composition. Silicon Carbide strike face backed with UHMWPE. I am not seeing a drop test and the plate's cheap for Silicon Carbide, leading me to the conclusion this is a Longfri or Longfri-esque Chinese plate with no drop foam, akin to the Shellback 4SiCMH.>VPAM-9 is way less than Level IVThey're sidegrades. VPAM-9 is three hits of 7.62x51mm P80 AP, which is comparable to M61 (basically diet 7.62x51 M2AP, a cut below B-32 API), at 3.4" shot spacing. NIJ Level IV is exactly one .30-06 M2AP and no more. A VPAM-9 plate can fail Level IV, a Level IV can fail VPAM-9 by not having enough multi-hit.>>64958754We're slowly getting enough examples to make a french plate infographic, which I'm liking the idea of since euroanons (as I'm sure you know) are strapped for options.I'm not a huge fan of this plate given it apparently has no drop protection. However, that PM-9 cert is strong and P80 is the strongest threat you can reasonably encounter in Europe. All threats above P80, aside from B-32 API. which you'll only encounter in select areas, are exotic and relatively rare tungsten core business. AP8 (PM-11) / Swiss P AP (PM-12), not even counting the really heavy duty shit like AP 11LR, DM151, .300 DM131, 7N37, or the .338 APs a lot of SOF are picking up. No option presented thus far except the Adept Colossus, which can in fact be sold to Europe, have a good shot at those. Have you looked at the Colossus? It's 0.7lb or so heavier than this plate and is about VPAM PM-12, so it'll cover you against M993 AKA AP8 and 7.62x51 Swiss P AP. $1,280 a set here in the States so it's majorly upmarket.
>64959496Self correction, 3.4 is the annex number and not shot spacing for VPAM. The actual VPAM spacing is 100mm in a triangle like pic related. Other important notes are that the shots must be 75mm from a corner and 30mm from the edge.NIJ for reference is 51mm (2") between shots, 2" from the edge. If it is a pistol rating like IIIA, then spacing between hits is 2" for the smaller round and 3" for the larger round (.44 mag). If NIJ Level IV is specified by the manufacturer as multi-hit (which barely anyone does) then each .30-06 M2AP must be stopped with 51mm spacing between each hit. This is extremely difficult absent a heavy ceramic tile or pellet array so nobody does this. You don't get an award or a special mark on the NIJ CPL, it just cuts down the required number of samples for NIJ cert (36 for 1 hit per plate, up to 6 for 6 hits per plate). I see VPAM has the same provision where you can spec more than three hits to cut down on sample numbers.
>>64959488Givern? Givenst. Happy now?

>>64959542You shouldn't be. I like you better seething over minutiæs.
>>64959563A man with alibaba platinum status never seethes. He copes.
>>64957187I think we'll be seeing the return of the gunshield sooner or later. Think about it. A 6x8 Hesco 3801 to the shooter's left of the gun would weigh less than a pound and cover a relative lot of body against RF1 threats if it's "presented" while you're aiming.
>>64959610What about just putting a 6x8 on your arm like a buckler?I could actually see that being a thing if you could secure it well enough
>>64953843These last couple have been the worst /gq/ threads I've seen in 14 years.
>>64918051Thanks for the reply anon. Did end up snagging a meme cloak, apparently it's been just over two years since my last Ali order so Ali slashed the price even more than the 30% off it's currently at. Still fucking $70 with shipping and taxes, but I'll also use it to study how to stitch up my own cloaks out of whatever I want.
>>64954615Hoffman Explorer. I wear the comp toe version daily.
>>64960473Yeah that's based.>>64960211I rigged up some cheap IIIA panels that way. It's a fine idea but might get annoying with a plate. All depends on the weight.
>>64960370>worse than threads where nobody posts and it diesGuess anon can't handle the cloak.
Hot take: All-polyethylene plates are based if you understand their limitations and know M855 is either not an issue or it'll be coming out of an ARP. They literally weigh a quarter of what equivalent steel plates do.Cold take: Steel is still cringe.Spicy takes:1. Trauma pads are actually useful.2. Ceramics do have durability concerns if handled roughly. Fudds were kinda right.3. Shot spacing is as important as raw multi hit.
>>64959542>>64959575>>64960473>>64960817>>64960829I've got one coming through the mail. Never wore a cloak before, so I'm not sure when the right time to wear it would be. I guess it'll be trial and error then.
>>64961583The Aliexpress rizz cloak or another one?A couple pointers with the rizz cloak so far if anyone wants one:1. All straps (slings, backpacks) need to be lengthened to compensate for the cloak.2. It's meant to tie into certain platecarriers with laser cut holes in the shoulders. You can jury rig it to any PC however if you're mildly creative.3. The buttons on the collar will NOT hold the fur if you're diving around. Use the straps on the cloak to tie the collar down.
>>64961640Yeah the rizz cloak. I would assume you would only wear it when you're going innawoods, and not so much for casual wear. I would give off mall-ninja vibes if you wear it casually IMO, but it might work if you wear it with a dark suit like >>64959575 desu.
>>64962037Put on your cloak, tactical pimp cane, and multicam black wizard hat and nobody will bat an eye. Goondalf the Black gonna roll up in a Cadillac DTS. >>64962865> NTA, and this is gonna be a spicy ass take, but armor general is what's keeping gear general afloat.Seriously, yeah. I've been begging people to discuss carriers for multiple threads now. I want a new generalist/jack-of-all-trades carrier and don't know what to buy. Are tubes good?
>>64963815Defense Mechanisms MEPC
>>64963815>>64963891MEPC is good, look also to the APOC or other BALCS-type carriers if you're interested in simultaneously running soft and hard armor. You get a coverage advantage versus pistol threats (do keep in mind IIIA does fuck all against rifle threats) and it also permits you to more readily run ICW plates. If you want jack-of-all-trades, it is very hard to argue against a set of REV.G onward ESAPIs unless you've already got solid plates. Those need soft armor but they'll cover you against ~95% of reasonable CONUS threats. Anything above that and you're basically in a catch-22, because if M993 and superfast M2AP are coming out to play then the situation is extraordinary and ALL the exotic rounds will be in play.>tubesSome people love em, some people hate em. I don't use em.
FYI, for reasons unknown to autism Gilliam Technical Services is now selling the new 3.7lb Model 6001 on ebay. This is an edge-to-edge RF2 plate, so good for 3x 7.62x51mm M80, or 3x 5.56 M193, or 3x 7.62x39 MSC, or 3x 5.56 M855. Note the test report is pretty hinky. There's an N/A on the BFD for M80 shot #3 (IMO, probably went over 44mm) and shot #4 is missing. No M855.I strongly suspect this plate is not good for M855 post 0101.07 conditioning. However, at $269 a plate this makes for a potential poorfag alternative to a $600 Hesco 3810. Do not try it against M855A1, it's gonna bomb. Also the 3810 has double the multi hit at 6x 7.62x51mm M80, but that's a fair concession. Who's getting shot six times with real fuckin' NATO to the torso and nowhere else?
I've got a MEPC in wolf grey (I bought for the memes)since then I've given up on being "the grey-man" and have been switching all my larp gear to tiger stripedefense mechanisms will stitch all their stuff in VTS, but I don't really want to buy another PC and cumberbund when the one I've got is fineI'm going to try dyeing itbeen reading a lot about different formulas and techniques so I'm pretty sure I've got that stuff figured outwhat I can't find is any examples of people dyeing grey stuff to greenalmost all the dye guides are for UCPgrey should be easy to dye right? I mean, it's a primer color for painting after allI just want the mepc and placards to be green, shouldn't look too out of place next to tiger stripe. worried it will come out purple or something and then I'll have to pay for a VTS plate carrier anyway

>>64964707These delta origin plates should really be called Alibaba Origin. They're straight off the boat from China's third division factories. You can tell from the peel-off "six box" back label listing material, size, and level and the cover. This is C-grade business and should bd dodged.I do not see a drop test in the report and it's 7lb too, so not even like the lighter IVs from before.
>>64962766its always sold out at the harbor freight near me..
>>64959496Here’s my compilation.Based on the results and /qg/ feedback, would the final ranking be:LORICA > PHYGIATECH > PGD > PANGOLIN ?Summary:- LORICA: SiC (2.85 kg) — tested to NIJ Level IV (ballistic testing only, 3 shots) / tested to VPAM 10 (ballistic testing only, 1 shot) - 460€ per plate- PHYGIATECH: SiC (2.7 kg) — VPAM 9 (certified) - 295€ per plate- PGD: SiC (3 kg) — tested to NIJ Level IV (ballistic testing only, 1 shot) / tested to VPAM 10 (ballistic testing only, 1 shot) - 460€ per plate- PANGOLIN: Ceramic (2.5 kg) — tested to NIJ Level IV (ballistic testing only, 1 shot) - 350€ per plate
>>64965375I agree with that assessment. The Lorica handles three B-32 API or just one M2AP, so it's got a major overall advantage versus the phygiatech which is only good for 3x 7.62x51mm P80 or 1x .30-06 M2AP.VPAM cert is not as arduous as NIJ, so I wouldn't sweat that as much.I'm actually rather impressed by the Lorica B4C version at only 2.6kg, which is 5.7lb. For what it's worth, the best overall Level IV in Europe is the Tencate (now Integris) CXP-800 SA, which is 5.4lb and simultaneously meets NIJ Level IV, III, and PM-9 requirements. It is only rated for one B-32 API across the plate. This Lorica B4C is good for three at PM-10. For only a 0.3lb increase that's pretty nice actually.Of course, I'd exercise some caution as to whether the Lorica has sufficient drop protection, usually that's how industry newcomers try and steal some performance on paper versus the more established guys like Integris.

I’ve got a good one. Soft armor vs poly pl8 in carrier. Pros? Cons? Coverage being one, maybe. With how light some of these plates can get, may have some advantages with lighter carriers.
>>64965630>he posted it again
>>64965962The lightest commercially available Level III plate is the Hesco 3801 at 1.9lb for a 10x12. It offers full six hit Level III protection, which is far and away beyond any soft armor. It is also rated for M193 and 7.62x39mm M43, which are two rounds that will easily defeat IIIA like it's not even there. However, this plate stands no chance against M855 unless velocity is very low.If you're up against rifle rounds, get rifle plates. If you're up against non-mild steel core, get ceramic. On the other side, soft armor is thinner, lighter (lightest commercially available IIIA is Hardwire-57 at 0.57lb/ft^2 areal density, so a fraction of the 3801's weight) and can cover more, plus it's flexible. Downside is that, ironically, soft armor is often more expensive. A set of 3801s is about a grand. A set of Hardwire-57 panels is two.I think the goldilocks solution is to run BALCS style setups so you have the strength of plates and the coverage of soft armor, plus the two will work together to enhance protection and reduce behind armor blunt trauma.
>>64966022I'm just so happy, bear with my joy.
>>64965375How the fuck is PGD better than Pangolin? The PGD report was dogshit, and their plate is the heaviest. I'd rank them at the bottom desu
>>64964951kill yourself redditor
>>64966866The Pangolin is 5.5-5.7lb (0.2lb variance between website and report) which is super light for a 10x12 SiC-PE plate, and right in-line with cheapass Battle Steel from Longfri. This means drop protection and sizing are both highly suspect. I'll take a heavier but reliable plate over one that's undersized, underbuilt, and will get fucked up if it's mailed improperly. You can't control the mailman and tap / torque don't check for microfractures which could compromise an underbuilt plate. Let's not repeat the 4SAS4 fiasco.

>>64967147That's where the extra weight comes in. Sure, the BFD is high, but that's a function of the PE backer and not the strike face, crack arrestor, or drop protection. The Adept Colossus pulls like 43.6mm versus Swiss P AP. Reducing BFD is easy (trauma pad, soft armor, or preferably a CAP or best a TAP) but adds weight / thickness. Those Russian BR5+ plates pull under 17mm versus 7N37 with soft armor and CAP.
>>64953843Pagers have a bad reputation after Israel blew up all the Hezbollah pagers but what advantages do pagers have over phones? What do they even do for a military?
>>64967197Majority of pagers are "one way" meaning they receive only. The technology/infrastructure to run a pager network is also a lot more straightforward than the technology to run a cell network and way less individual user burden to use than something like a radio. So if you only need to transmit something like>Durka durka report for assembly for durka durka activitiesThey work really well
>>64967197Integrate them with proper one time pad usage and they're basically uncrackable. Just traceable.Nothing beats a good numbers station though. Disguise it as two old men talking about their colon surgeries on 80 meter.

>>64963815Things are gonna blow up real good when the 0101.07 CPL finally... finally... finally... eventually... possibly... releases. It exists and companies are getting armor listed on it, but it's not a public document until enough products are listed for the NIJ to feel like cops are getting a non-premature list. There's still a bet riding from 2024 on whether Adept will actually get their stuff certified or not. I'm thinking they won't but I do hope I'm wrong. Anyone want to bet if Gilliam will get his plates certed? Model 1023 would be looking mighty fine right now if it wasn't a wildcard.
