The market for full size rounds is also smaller due to the tacticool scene focusing on room clearing and CQB three gun shit. Full size rounds really only corner the long range precision and hunting scenes, both of which aren't all that interested in semi auto rifles. Being able to deploy a high volume of fire and sustain it for longer is more important than having more powerful individual rounds, when 99,99% of those won't even hit a target anyways.There is also the issue of cost, when you buy in the quantities of a military the difference between 223 and 308 is substantial in the long run.
