Because firing at a moving target is difficult. It's even more difficult if you have no idea where it is (in real time). It's even more difficult when your launch sites are under attack.
>unguided submunitionsgood luck i guess
>>64961982>The iranian missile doesn't know where it is at all times. It doesn't know this because it doesn't know where it is. By subtracting where it could be from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it could be (whichever looks less bad), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it could be to a position where it couldn't be, and arriving at a position where it couldn't have been, it now might be. Consequently, the position where it might be, is now the position that it couldn't have been, and it follows that the position that it could have been, is now the position that it might not be.>In the event that the position that it might be in is not the position that it couldn't have been in, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile might be, and where it couldn't have been. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it could have been.>The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has guessed, it is not sure just where it might be. However, it is sure where it could not be, within reason, and it knows where it could have been. It now subtracts where it might be from where it couldn't have been, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it could have been, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called guessing

>>64961947>Khorramshahr-4It sucks. It is a copy of a Nork missile that was abandoned due to being unreliable and inaccurate.
>>64961947Because firing at a carrier requires :A) to be able to locate the carrier, which may be possible with Iranian submarines or satellite help from China or RussiaB) to be able to guide the missile to the target, which is significantly harder. Long-range missiles typically use INS (inertial navigation) which is good for fixed targets but not for moving targets like a ship. You could use GPS or other methods but Iran doesn't have the tech required. And you would also need to evade or saturate countermeasures from the whole carrier group.
>>64961947>$30 million price tag>build 1000 of them as your nation starves and buckles under hyperinflation >all 1000 are fired or lost in 5 days of war>less accurate than V2 rocket >kill 1 old lady in Tel Aviv and a migrant worker in Dubai
It's more of a psychological weapon until they add terminal guidance. A single B-52 dropping dumb bombs could inflict much greater damage than they have managed so far.

>>64961947Silly rabbit! That's for deleting the enemy's kids! Seriously, though, what the hell makes you think they want to destroy the enemy's military? That's not been how they built their armed forces' doctrine or equipment. Hell, it's not even how they architected their "civilian" government. It's all gone to funding mass murder groups for decades and building the biggest dead-man-switched bomb vest of a military they could.
What is it with turdies obsessing about rockets? They sleep when their whole military is dogshit but hoot and holler when they have thousands of rockets.

>>64965283Iran can only maintain legitimacy if it can visibly threaten its enemies. It doesn't have the industrial base to build aircraft that can do that because modern aircraft require a diversified and multi-talented economy. Land invasion is out of the question since they have no Navy to deploy those forces and the overland route will get them bombed into oblivion long before they get anywhere beyond the border with Iraq.Rockets (and cruise missles, to a lesser extent) represent the only credible direct threat Iran can make against Israel and the United States. The tyranny of the rocket equation means that they are a hideously inefficient use of resources (costing a sum on the order of a cheapish fighter jet to drop the equivalent of a single JDAM somewhere in a ~500 meter vicinity of their target) but that is still a better result than buying said cheap fighter jet and strapping that payload as a bomb, because the jet's going to get intercepted long before it gets anywhere close. It's the same logic that caused Japan to adopt Kamikaze tactics and caused Germany to waste money on the V2 - when it's the only thing that gets results, however small, it's what gets the budget.
