DDG(X) planned features:>Aegis Combat System Baseline 10>Growth margins in space, weight, power, and cooling>Integrated propulsion system>Reduced detectability>Anticipated armament: 64 Mk.41 plus 12 GVLS (single packed with hypersonics)>Anticipated cost: $4.4BDDG-1000 existing features:>Growth margins in space, weight, power, and cooling>Integrated propulsion system>Reduced detectability>Actual armament: 80 Mk.57 plus 4 APM (triple packed with hypersonics)>Actual cost: $4.3B including $700M spent ripping out the AGSes (cost of building and installing them originally also included in the $4.3B but not in the $700M retrofit) to install hypersonic payload tubesInstead of spending all of the time and money developing the DDG(X), why not spend a fraction of that time integrating the Zumwalt's systems with Aegis and put the class back into production? It would also be a good time to alter the design to fit the 69-RMA SPY-6 radar that was originally designed for the CG(X), which was supposed to share the same hullform as DDG-1000.Yes, I'm aware of the battleship but it will never be built.
>>64964294It's the 21st century. Guns on ships are useless.
i just hope they build something in more than single digit quantities.
>>64964474I want to be optimistic about it. There were mistakes in the past because of uncertainty of roles/equipment, in addition to belief the US was largely past going against national adversaries, but we're past that. Design something good, prepare yards for the work, and build it. Even if the new "battleships" don't become reality, hopefully it pushes the idea of getting more shipyards ready and workers interested in building larger warships. And if the next DDG is going to be pulling double duty to replace the Ticonderogas then they REALLY need to follow through on production.
>>64964503Burke Flight III is replacing the Tico, the next ship is to replace Burke Flight I.
What happened to the Big Beautiful Battleship?
I want giant laser on the ship.
>>64964503There were no mistakes, Congress just didn't want to spend billions on a destroyer. But now they're doing it anyway because there was never any alternative. There's no reason to design something entirely new when we already have the answer ready to go.
>>64965339Burke Flight III has an entirely different role from the Ticos.
>>64964464>Guns on ships are uselessLet me write that down for when the first encounter starts with>why tf don't we have a deck gun?
>>64967827>spend billions on a destroyerExcept now it costs x2.25 in Biden bux.
>>64967838Take it up with the Navy. Burke Flight III is the official replacement for the Ticonderoga.
>>64967863The only difference between them is in software nowadays
>>64967915They run mostly the same software. The big problem is that the Tico's radar is over 50 years old.
>>64964294Id fund it but then again I'm drunk af and my wife is arguing with me because I admitted Giselle is the hottest woman on the planet and I'd like to be married to her instead. Women are so gassed up rn they think a 10/10 woman worth half a billion is beneath them.
