https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-fired-at-iranian-vessel-that-approached-aircraft-carrier-officials-say/

>An Iranian vessel sailed too close to the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, and the U.S. fired at the vessel, according to two U.S. officials briefed on the matter who spoke to CBS News under condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

>a U.S. Navy vessel attempted to fire on the Iranian vessel using its 5-inch, 54-caliber Mark-45 gun

Apparently fucking missed since:

>A helicopter equipped with Hellfire missiles was launched and struck the Iranian vessel with two of the missiles.

The brrrt splash splash splash splash splash was naval code for turn the fuck around.
>>

>>64964660
This. That's going to be some sort of Iranian-flagged cargo/tanker not taking the hint. Nobody wants to take the risk of eating the world's first SVBIED (Suicide Vessel-Borne Improvised Explosive Device), so fuck 'em.
>>
>>64964668
Tbf, the russians have already eaten several of those
>>
>>64964673
I'm not entirely sure I'd call them improvised. And TBDesu, the idea of some brownoids loading up a bulk hauler full of ANFO and trying to set it off next to a naval vessel is so fucking absurd that I kinda want to see them try.
>>
>>64964643
With the way that is worded my money is on it being a fishing boat.
>>
>>64964668
>eating the world's first SVBIED
already happened (USS Cole)
>>
>>64964643
entirely reasonable. as retarded as sand people can be, even civvies should now better than approaching a bigass enemy warship in the middle of a war.
they were likely trying to do something harmful.
>>
>>64964683
Okay, yeah, that one I'll concede. I still stand by >>64964677 tho.
>>
>>64964685
Depends a lot of what they mean by "close", the Mark-45 has a range over 20 miles and I wouldn't consider that too close.
>>
>>64964688
i think they were way closer than that. even as jittery as americans are right now in the strait, they won't attack some random ass trawler 30 kms away from them.
>>
>>64964694
They have been hitting boats in Caribbean, I have no faith in this admin at all.
>>
>>64964688
>Depends a lot of what they mean by "close", the Mark-45 has a range over 20 miles and I wouldn't consider that too close.

Yeah well Iran has supersonic missiles, they could strap a supersonic anti-ship missile on a civilian vessel, sneak close, and launch it.
20 miles at supersonic speeds is a few seconds of reaction time.
Likely too late for an SM/ESSM shot, so you're down to betting on RAM and CIWS ... that's sneaking past 2 layers of defense, that would be a huge advantage to the Iranians.

I doubt CIWS and RAM on the CSG is in auto-mode unless they have contact on the radar, risk of friendly fire way too high with flight ops going on.

Many such cases. Very sad!
>>
>>64964683
But one the size of a tanker? It'll never reach anything worthwhile before it goes down but I would love to see it.

>against a belligerent vessel of a nation you are at war with
What's it like being retarded?
>>

>Iranian vessel
Could be civilian. Could be military. We do not know. We only know that it approached, got shot at, then hit with hellfire missiles. Maybe the whirly bird was dispatched to get visual confirmation before attacking it. Who knows.
>>
>>64965879
New narrative dropped. The vessel approaching a military craft shouldn't be deemed a threat in an active conflict. Maybe it's a poor fisherman trying to feed his family :(
>>
>>64964683
The zoomer retards shitting up this board don't even remember OIF
>>

Operation praying mantis @ 8:25. Imagine if the USA did what you think should've been done and just open fire on a radar contact. Good thing people like you aren't in charge.

one moving ship, shooting toward another moving ship inviting it to fuck right off, likely at fairly long range, with a piece designed in the 60's.
If they wanted it fucking gone, they would have used a missile.

Normally, but you're not dealing with top minds.
these morons decided about 250 aircraft was enough to preempt Iranian missile launch capabilities
>>
>>64965889
Given the fact that the Iranian regime had used civilian boats in the past, it's not a far stretch. I forgot that we're dealing with the likes of 60IQ goat fuckers

Are you telling me that the Iranians military capabilities are intact and they have an intact airspace? Let me guess, the Iranians have not deployed their real army yet
>>
>>64966030
Not what I said. Preemption was a failure. Suppression seems to be working with this few aircraft but it was far too few for Day 1 and the result is unnecessary damage. It's the classic retard leader technique of going in quick and without forming a coalition. Even Bush waited until 5-6 CSGs were in place for their wars in the middle east.
>>
>>64966036
Drumpf makes Bush look extremely competent actually
>>
Turdies on Tgram have been posting about how they missed so bad they needed a chopper.
The reality is at 20-25 kilometer it's entirely normal for a 5 inch class gun to require multiple shots, even assuming the intention was to hit in the first place.

Unguided naval shells' CEP is somewhere in the hundreds-meters at max range. It's on a moving boat firing at a moving target.
>>
>>64966036
It was enough. They've destroyed over 10000 military targets, broke the leadership and sent whatever is left underground. Their missile launches have been cut down significantly, same with their drones. It's now a matter of days, and now the UK and France are joining in. Israel have not stopped attacking either. There's also talks about other middle eastern countries joining in because Iran attacked other middle eastern nations without provocation like a schizo
>>
>>64966052
I’m still confused why he didn’t refill the strategic reserve before doing this.
>>
>>64966124
you know how the greek campaign in ww2 failed because mussolini woke up one day and decided to go with it, with zero preparation whatsoever? that's what's happening right now, but the dysmal failure is replaced by a costly victory thanks to a gigantic military industry behind it

Why did they shoot warning shots with the ship gun and then use a helicopter to sink it? why not just sink it with the ship gun?
>>
>>64966432
Because a 5" gun at or near it's max range is not as accurate as you'd think.
>>
>>64966482
I see. Thank you.

Weren't you niggers just pissing yourselves over the narco boats getting greased trying to run the blockade? Iran would probably being doing a lot better if its people and supporters weren't all barely sentient goldfish

Do you think a missile gets up to supersonic speeds in 20 miles at sea level?
>>

According to the book that guy was ok just confused as hell
