I don't understand QD scopes. unless the rifle has a quick adjustable comb, which is ugly, or flip up sights like on an AR or one of those scout rifles, the steyr?, that sit at the same height the optic would the rifle is either going to be uncomfortable with a scope or borderline unusable with irons. I'd rather have like a QD red dot, which I guess is the plan with that walther bullpup straight pull, which you can put on the rifle when you take the scope off because the red dot would probably sit at the same height as the optic, instead of the way lower irons t. witnesses my red dot with my irons on my AR and I have a fixed front sight block
>>64972005>I don't understand QD scopes.I had my rifle (pic related) fall on its cheap scope (Zeiss Terra series) during a driven hunt. It lost its zero, so I detached the scope and a shot a wild boar with my irons. Some people also have different scopes for different purposes (night hunting vs. driven hunts). Keep in mind euros don't usually have that many guns.
>>64972563maybe it lost zero because you cheaped out on your rings.
>>64972577I cheaped out on both the rings and the scope. Since then I upgraded both.
>>64972005>I don't understand QD scopesQD mounts have thier appeal to dangerous game hunters and the "belt and suspender" generation for plausible reasons. New technology is slow for acceptance in the conservative culture and scopes did fail, and till do. Trends will follow whimsy, and see-thru rings and "TV View" scopes had a buyer's market. All that said, late model acopes are more durable design. Vintage, out of productio,n TV View scope sight picture picrel, forgive quality.
>>64972608>TV View scope sight picture picrel, forgive quality.it saves weight, because few people need vertical field of view. and gimmicks like this arent just from the 60s. I recall leupold doing pic rel around 2010
>>64972669Yeah, forgot that one. Reasonable adaptation, though.
>>64972563chinweld cityhow is that shit comfortable to shoot?
>>64972608>"TV View" scopeswhat?
>>64972794>let me google that for you>actually find a choice Redfield >post and wire reticle My favorite reticle, next to German #4. Check pics.https://www.ebay.com/itm/406750361444?
theres two reasons, the first is the ability to switch between types of scopesthermal and night vision optics would be a good example, because they work more or less effectively depending on your surroundings, and you may want to switch to a normal scopethe second reason is that you can detach it and use it as a monocular, which is a really good thing to have if you have a thermal scope and dont want to drop 2k on a thermal monocular
>>64972789It was okay. I changed the glass and rings 2 years
>>64973454no, I'm saying how is that comfortable with your head so high up on the stock?
>>64972005>I don't understand QD scopesA nice QD mount like a Sphur can hold zero between swaps repeatedly, so I think the primary point value is in having different scopes for regular optical and thermal or NV. The other approach is to have a clip-on or forward system of some kind and use that with your regular optic, but there are advantages to having a dedicated thermal scope (and depending on rifle you might not even have the rail for more stuff in front of the optic anyway). Either way works and is up to taste/user need, but if you do want multiple scopes for the same rifle then QD makes it a lot easier and more useful, albeit at yet more $$$.
