Everyone knows that WWII is the most bombastic display of weapons to ever exist, but what was the second most bombastic war ever, and what was the most bombastic post-1945 war?

Iran-Iraq war, the gloves were off and both sides were, at the start at least, peer powers. Chemical weapons were used in great amounts by the Iraqis. Pilots became aces. Helicopters dueled eachother. Massive tank battles were fought.

In terms of fatalities, the most deadly war since 1945 is just the half century long Chinese civil war continuing after the Japs left.

But it was actually less apocalyptic then. Before it was like 10,000 factions in endless warlord conflicts.
