Anyone read pic rel yet? Wife bought it for me and only in the preface yet.>author helped with Leo2 in Spain>SCW not as romantic as it seemed>eh hates commiesIs all ive got so far.
>>64999450Training tanks are fun.
>>64999450Looks cool, wonder if it has pictures of some of the weird domestic designs of the time.
Soviets had a plan for a tank firing 300mm nuclear or conventional HE rounds
>>64999638The americans planned something similar as well
>>64999638>>64999640>Sturmtiger had a bigger round but was rocket propelled >only 6000m rangeThat seems a bit close to lob nukes around. Surely they would have a larger range, right?
>>64999605Only photos on indigenous (if you can call it that) is a Trubia A4. Based on Renault FT but with small arms firing ports added to the hull. Most notably is a unique turret that is actually two halves. Each gun could rotate on its own. The argument was if a gun is disabled you still got another. Honestly a better idea than having two guys working around each other on a seperate gun in the small turret.
>>64999702>repro
>>64999505I know that tank! It's from the old Littlefield collection. Fantastic to see it's found a good home.
>>64994020Centurion AVRE 165
>>64999450You have a good wife anon. Been meaning to try and get a book like that myself as tank combat in Spain is underreported. I wish I still had access to the pics I took of all the Spanish Civil War tanks from a museum I went to.>>64999671Anon they are from the era that brought us the Davy Crockett. They weren't caring about survival only maximum fuck you!
>>64999702>>64999716I think I saw this in a Mario Bros. game once
smol pp gun
>>64999731yeah this is a good museum and I live nearby.

>>65002812Any history on this?>>65002911I really need to learn all the differences between the various marks of Sherman.>>65003521Is that a 105 howitzer on that Sherman? Just doesn't look quite like a 75 from this perspective?
>>64994038>>64998416in action
>>65004769yep, thats definitely a 105mm sherman
>>65004769>>65002812Only info I can find on it is that it was used for British nuclear tests in Australia in the 1950s
>>65005373>Massive lapses in Japanese intel that cost them entire battles>Yet they somehow got a report on the heavy tank the US never deployed

Tankettes lives MATTER
>>65005329Why are you posting this pic of my waifu in a hot tub?
>>65005625Probably because the M6 and it's derivatives/predecessors were displayed and paraded about like circus animals.
It does *look* powerful.
>>64994020
>>65005651that movie gave me cancer
>>65005651>>65006862Saw it first at age eight, that scene was an extreme letdown>M48s as PzKpfws
>>64994030Luvs me Spanish tanks. They like adding extra armor to already existent designs. They made the M60 EXTRA FAT
>>65006862What is the Bong equivalent of smykalka?
>>65002903Smol tutle
For me its the Challenger
>>65006876You got to see Patton vs Patton violence at least.
>>65007107Fun Fact, the turret from the TOG II was reused for the Challenger, its basically using a welded version of the TOG II turret
>>65008692That got me wondering did they ever try the Challenger with a 28pdr?
>>64994030If I ever make it I will build a replica that is hellcat swapped.
>>65009526Put a Hellcat, in your Hellcat.Or maybe just a big reverse flow blown nailhead, since it is a Buick product.
>>65009569twin Cadillacs are the way to go
>>65009582Not a terrible engine, the wartime mills were a bit more reliable than some of the prewar 348's, and did not overheat so quickly.
>>65009279the barrel shroud around the cute little chode gun makes it look bigger caliber than it actually is
>>65009918>Rabbit filled ChurchillCrew must have been hopping mad!
>>65009903RIP the crews' spines.
>>65011094How does the crew even fit into the pancake tank? They can't be sitting upright, are they all down on their stomachs?

BT-42
Sturmi
T-28
Do trains count?
Pz IV J
Ok,last one
^^ Finland?
>>65011558yeah, these days there are shelters over the tanks
>>65011616iirc the shelters were placed over them after Girls und Panzer made the BT-42 popular and a bunch of people donated for them to be built
>>65011355oh yeah, the T-28 is fucking massive irl, the finns called it postijuna (mail train) because it was so big
>>65013112M8 fag needs to post more often.>>65013115Is that the package that brought it to Tiger I levels of protection?>>65013856>Welcome to Wales
>>65014874Yep, roughly the same frontal armor as the Tiger 1
>>65014874I got a big pp M8
>>65015904They fuck'd about with fitting the M3A5/M5 hull with all kinds of shit. The one mounting a 57mm/6LB rifle was the most interesting, because with APDS that would be nasty.
>>65016189What I want is a Wiesel CEV. Or a Weisel ARV.Something that size with a little 3 ton Hiab knuckle boom and dozer, or just a tiny box blade. Just so I can fire the thing up, including a functional MG3 flopping about, and grade my driveway. Or drive it a few blocks to do my parent's driveway. because "Fuck You I have a tiny tank. With a dozer blade.".
>>65013131Hope they moved the motorcycle out of the way before launching.
>>65015916>57mm/6LB rifle stuartDon't suppose got pics?
>>64998169eth eth?
>>65009130Oh shit, this thing is real? I was sure it was a Gaijin creation.
>>65015414Any reason they're crammed in like that? Fumigation/chemical treatment or just storage?
>>65018477yep, they really were crazy enough to bolt a 120mm naval gun onto a Chi-ha, though that is the only image of its existence so Gaijin probably made some creative decisions with it with stuff like ammo count and storage.
British concept tank that would have used liquid propellant for its 20 pounder gun.
>>65019020As cool as that seems as a concept that is not a practical tank design.
oops...
you will never be this cool, why even live
>>65019270Please tell me they are restoring all those to working order?
Are there armored vehicle has ww1 75mm french field gun? I can only find this and saint charmond. Is the fire rate not attainable in vehicle?
>>65019818Will we see a return to painted tanks as spotting them replies less on visible spectrum and defense of the tank becomes more about defeating threats as they come to you?
>>65022045There's a few. M3 Halftrack used the US license copy of it. There was one used on an AA truck and there is this off the top of my head.
>>65022160Okay. I saw this pattern that they are mounted on as is for light vehicles instead of full enclosures and was wondering if anything about a field gun make it unsuitable as a tank gun.
>>65022693>if anything about a field gun make it unsuitable as a tank gunBulk. Really that is the big problem as you have to make it fit inside a turret. Other than that no field guns can make decent tank guns. The 75mm used on the Lee and Sherman are basically a modified version of that Frog 1897 when it boils down to it.
>>65006980Engineering
>>65022743I see thanks.
>>65023569cute
>>65023569love casemates. simple as.
>>65019184Sd.Kfz.182 was cool looking, but underpowered. They needed something like this to retrofit (also into Panther) which'd make it and the Sd.Kfz.186 Hunting Tiger viable machineshttps://oldmachinepress.com/2018/02/05/sgp-sla-16-porsche-type-203-x-16-tank-engine/

>>65023569>t28 at home
>>65024095>>65024122>>65024125Assuming this was Korea and this was not uncommon. Sometimes you just need to shell the shit out of somewhere and this was the only option they had available at that moment.
>>65023884yes, many German tanks were underpowered, because they kept adding more armour and bigger guns to them
>>65025812? If referring to the earlier Pz.Kpfw I—IV series, those were designed in the 1930s around essentially one engine that was below 300 hp (even without the additional armor III-IV and later StuGs, they could have used an engine in the 400 to 500 hp class to retain mobility advantage during the 1940s)Panther was designed around the Tiger I engine, that for tanks under 55 tons was adequate. Once you arrive at the Sd.Kfz. 182 and 186 it's a different story and order of magnitude, i.e. not good enough to keep using the Tiger I powerplant.
A few more pics from Finland, more recent this time
Tiger II prototype, this is being restored in Bovington now
And a different angle of the train, last pic for now
^ nice
I've been enjoying the KV-2 lately
>>65002367man, I would kill for an sdkfz 221/222.I wonder how many are still in working condition
>>65027035a few at least
>>65026874I remember that Finland sold a bunch of those off a couple of years ago and still got more they are willing to sell.
>>65028190>Double the barrels double the shitposts
>>65027035
>>65028185replace the 22 pounder with the 105mm L7 and some modern sights and it would make for a decent tank destroyer still
fun fact, NATO 105mm ammo is just necked up 20 pounder ammo
>>65030218
>>65030179Well the Charioteer with the 20pdr was pretty much that to the Cromwell. The only downside to it though is that if you are going for 105 there are arguably a lot more capable newer chassis around that would accommodate it better and if you are going for a 105 may as well try a 120?
>>65026839Was it always white or were people just that excited to see it getting restored?>>65030218>>65030249Amazed at how much mileage those Frog tanks got out of the Axis minors.>>65031460Always loved how this is basically a box with a gun parked on top of a Sherman. If it had sponsons it'd be in 40k.>>65031568Skoda really had some neat concepts. Just a shame they were never had the practical means to make them.Sage as at image limit.
>>65032134>Was it always white or were people just that excited to see it getting restored? That's not white, that's dunkelgelb in somewhat cold and hard light.
