Serious answer though, is the performance (flash and recoil vs. penetration/expansion/probability to incapacitate) worth it or stick with just plain old 124gr +p HST
I find myself perplexingly aroused by the sheer damage the +p+ can deal to a gel torso

It's 1230 on a chrono. Gets .65 expanded reliably in controlled and actual mammal targets. 18+ in penn tests. I've seen it used on deer. The sharp pedals make a difference in damage. Get some. It's good stuff. Reliable. Proven. The extra velocity is buying you depth you may not get with a slower bullet at a bad angle.

If anyone can find me a good deal on a USP in .45 please let me know, thanks

IDK, mine is Geneseo marked only and according to the Springfield rep, it was made after they stopped using Brazilian forgings. After owning some shoddy Colts (which had minor issues that COULD be fixed), it makes me appreciate the Springfield for just working and feeling like a quality gun. Even the Gold Cup in the pic has a very non-positive safety but is otherwise reliable.

I tend to do 5 rounds at 7 yards and then 5 at 25 on the same target for slow fire practice. There is a common drill where at 7 or 10 yards you do 5 single round drills from the holster, 5 doubles from the holster or low ready, 5 rounds dominate hand only, 5 rounds non dominate hand only. I think the entire thing is timed adding up to each string of fire.

9/10 (?) in the 10 ring which probably was my best work so far. It didn’t feel like it, I called one more miss than I count.

The initial reviews on the Gen 6 have been pretty positive, but I think you might want to wait a few months to make sure.
You could also consider a PDP or M&P. I'd consider them to be sidegrades to the Glock. There isn't really a "best" polymer striker pistol, just like there isn't a "best" model of sneakers. There's just what you like, and what you don't like.

As far as time?
First actual 1911 (as in Military, Colt) I ever bought was only $425.00, but that was working at $5.00/hr.
Cost wise?
I'd have to say the pre B CZ75 I have, as I traded a first gen Glock 17 with the weird tupperware box for it. And that cost me $600.00 1991 dollars.
I did get the goofy styrofoam box and other nonsense for the '75, but I kind of miss that Glock.

List three variables, with quantifiable measurements, be they weight or dimension. Three points of measure, and ideal ranges to be expected for proper function.

Just three. Not "a lot." Just three variables you, as an expert, know about, measure and quantify in the process of fitting a 19/2011 slide to a frame.

infinity+1. But uh, I always say like 10 or 12 as a baseline but im currently violating that rule for all my handguns. Glock mags arent to pricey so id say just keep picking them up when you can and amass a collection as you go. For practical use only like 2 or 3 is fine, but for ease of range use having a ton is great

>>64996309

I like to keep two loaded mags in addition to the one in the gun. I like to take at least two mags to the range without having to download the two loaded mags. So that makes five. Once I hit that number I don't really care anymore and I'll only buy more when they are on sale and if I don't have a lot going on with other guns at the moment. That is only for pistols though.

It's not, don't do that. A 1911 isn't designed to work that way. It takes about 8lbs of force to reliably chamber a round in a 1911, effectively absorbing half of the weight of a factory 16lb recoil spring slamming home. You can't be dainty with it. At the same time, that's why so many people frown on dropping a 1911 slide on an empty chamber, it's battering itself twice as hard without a round in the way.

I've got a Max-9. It's a good enough pistol for a good price. Mediocre Trigger and its definitely not my most accurate pistol, but otherwise perfectly serviceable. It is small enough to pocket carry (though not small enough to do it with every pocket like the LCP series) and big enough to not be painful to shoot (though it is less comfy than an RXM and especially a Mark IV)
Are you planning on carrying it or is it just a range toy? If it's a range toy, get something else. (A Mark IV, RXM, or even a Wrangler comes to mind.) If you are going to carry it, go right ahead if you want. There are better options, but the Max-9 has a lot of bang for your buck.

Loading handgun magazines is a repetitive motion that strains hand and wrist muscles in uncommon ways. Get a Maglula UpLULA and it'll make it way easier and faster. It'll still cause some soreness if you load a lot at once, but nowhere near as much as doing so entirely by hand.

As for range rules, check the rules online before you go. Pretty much every range posts their rules online so you can be aware of what to expect before you go. Some are chill, some are fuddy. Hopefully you have a good range experience.

Also, if you're new here, don't ever listen to anything that "pastebin" (>64997644) has to say. Just ignore him, don't give him a (you). He's a retarded troll who knows nothing, shoots like shit, and espouses the dumbest fucking "advice".

I really appreciate the info and advice.
>>
>>64997479
There is one reason to buy a hellcat, and only one. You want the minmaxed micro 9 that has the best capacity for its size. A hellcat pro is pointless, because once you want something bigger, there are better guns available. Hellcats have a glock-but-worse trigger and are legitimately hard to shoot well when compared to something like a G26, Shield Plus, or Equalizer.

t. hellcat owner.
>>
>>64998250
but does it have the scat pack?
>>
>>64998224
It's actually not a Magpull product, just has a similar name. Understanding grip and trigger pull are the most important fundamentals to grasp. Make sure your support hand has a lot of contact with the frame and firm grip. The fingers on your dominant hand shouldn't flinch at all, and the trigger pull should go straight back. That's the gist of it. Practicing dryfire at home should make up most of your training time. Range time with live ammo puts that to the test.
>>
>>64994859

with my support hand I wrap the index across the front of the trigger guard and rest its thumb on the textured spot for it on the frame, it feels pretty natural. I think it will work pretty well.

That's not ideal since you'll have to account for that input every trigger pull. It's best to minimize inputs with your grip so it can be as easily repeatable as possible. Given that you're new, try wrapping all your support fingers around your dominant fingers. The most important part is to ensure your support palm gets maximum contact with the grip. Look up videos by Ben Stoeger on youtube. He has a lot of good information and is a good teacher. If you're really serious, check out his books.

Not all +P is created equal, it really depends on the bullet design and also the barrel length of the gun. Sometimes it only gets you more recoil while other cases it gets better penetration and expansion. A sweeping generalization calling something a meme isn’t going to be accurate
>>
>>64998380
alright I’m checking out his youtube.
>>
>>64998275
Increasing pressure in a cartridge can push a given weight of projectile faster, which leads to comparatively more penetration and/or damage. There's more factors to consider and not all projectiles and "+p" loadings are created equal but it certainly isn't a meme.
>>
>>64998275
No, although it goes against the grain when it comes to terminal ballistics dogma, I think even gaining 50 fps is a good thing when the velocity range is in the lower part of lead bending range. Forget energy, they just expand more reliably.

Adopting floating thumbs made real improvements with my shooting. The less inputs you have on the gun, the more simple and repeatable things are. This means it's easier to be consistent. There are a lot of training materials out there. If you're new to handgun shooting and actually want to learn to do it well, keep things simple and just watch/read his content. It's no nonsense and it works. If for some reason you find him unhelpful, then branch out to other stuff. This ought to save you a lot of time.

More recoil without any better performance, if the bullet cannot perform better than the extra powder is wasted

He reminds me of paul harrel. I like his video style a lot. I’ll definitely try the floating thumbs thing. I liked his explanation on how much grip strength to put into your dominant hand.

Learning to shoot listening to Ben is like learning to drive from an f1 driver in an f1 car. Sounds cool. Works well inside its own rule set. But you will be lost in rally, NASCAR, sprint, decar, and every other form of vehicle driving INCLUDING day to day. Nothing about two handed comp style shooting lends itself to real world situations when people are shooting back. All the way down to body position. When entering a house armed with a pistol the first thing you are taught immediately forces you to throw bens grip and body position out the window. He may argue but he wouldn't make it around the first corner or doorway the way he competes without eating a bullet.

Both him and Paul have a lot of experience actually training people, it’s how they break down concepts into easier to understand parts for people.

I just ignore that poster (it's probably pastebin, given the timeline and the behavior). He's been saying argumentative (and wrong) shit to everyone about everything in every thread for a while now. He never posts anything constructive or informative. He only posts argumentative bullshit because he's a troll.
>>
>>64998606
I believe it's this guy who does lurk here, I also seen him regurgitate my speel about DA/SA for carry a few times almost word for word
https://www.youtube.com/@JaredAF/videos
He's obviously trolling but no one would waste so much time about a topic they don't actually care about, so the suspect must have some interest or knowledge about shooting.

As you can tell from his channel he has an aversion to any actual practical shooting so he makes himself an expert in something obscure. Not a bad idea for his channel since other forms of shooting content is so saturated. There's some lore about him going to a USPSA type event and getting outshot so he fox-and-the-grapes his way into hating anything "competition shooting" related. He unironically believes one handed shooting is superior to two handed.

yes & no
you can make it shinier but it won't be 'shiny'
i have an american inox and i just polished it with flintz, if i do a few more rounds of it im sure itll be shinier but i like it how it is
it reflects light somewhat now, unlike the stock inox finish
the frame you cant really polish, youd have to strip it and polish it, personally id prefer to just go for the traditional 'ghost' look and just cerakote it in a lighter color that has a bit of a shine to it to better match the slide
if you want a really polished one, your best bet is a derya melik that they offer in a nickel and gold plated finish and ive been swapping parts out with nickel plated parts to match & lose the cartel look it had

these are my berettas im turning into sword cutlasses, i plan on laser engraving the derya to have the same engravings Revy's pistol has and ill probably leave the actual beretta more stock & just go for a 'ghost' look to it
im waiting on some more inox parts to show up to install on the beretta to get rid of the black parts & i have sword cutlass replica grips & an extended, raw stainless steel barrel showing up for the derya soon

Ben did a photo op with SF and a seminar type class. SF does not use his methods of grip, stance or anything else. If you had served you would know why and what this mutual PR event was. On the flip side of this when SF and the military switched it's combative training they used a system based and designed off the Gracie BJJ system. This was both mutual PR and an adoption of the system.
I don't know who pastebin is. I don't care about your sa/da opinion. I am a veteran and have been employed in private sector security. Personally I think half the posters here now are a bunch of morons who migrated during the red purge and are fanboy level. Believe me. Don't believe me. Try entering a doorway, window, or hallway the way Ben teaches it. It takes bit a grain of common sense to understand why it's not for real world use.
Has nobody here served? How were you trained to go around a corner? Yeah.

4 magazines, 3 is all you need but regardless of anything, id always go +1, just so you have a spare magazine in case one breaks, you can either part out a magazine to fix it or just use the spare one
really dont need to part out a magazine unless you have things like magazine extenders or have a fancy engraved/painted one or something

why would it? within a couple years of getting out of high school i was making way more than i would have in the military, plus no back injuries and freedom to do what i want
not knocking people who do but the only war going on when i couldve enlisted was the endless war in afghanistan where we were just giving money to afghanistan and training them, it was pointless & the only reason to join was for free college
>How were you trained to go around a corner?
i wasn't, i just think guns are cool
you dont need super fancy training to do good either, just look at the guy who stopped the mass shooter in the indiana mall, dude just went to the range and drilled in the basics and he did good
im sure ill never be as good as him or military/special forces but i dont need to be, i just like being comfe and shooting targets

>>
>>64998898
i havent fired or held a pt92 but my guess is the pt92 would be a better quality than the derya
the derya is a turkshit clone of the beretta 92FS
its still fine but the overall quality of everytthing is noticeable worse on the derya but it was also just under $600 for the nickel and gold plated derya melik and it has the slide mounted safety, which matches Revy's pistol more than a stainless/nickel pt92
didnt realize it wasnt a perfect clone either, i've had to hand fit a lot of parts and it was a lot of hand polishing to make it all match, not sure if it was worth saving the ~$400 compared to just getting an italian ghost inox but i also do want to get the sword cutlass engravings and i dont think i could bring myself to engrave a real beretta with that, i dont mind doing it to a turkshit range toy
i also do like these projects just because i wind up learning a lot of history of the gun & understanding how the gun works, its kinda fun
>>
>>64998906
midwest gun works & the trigger pin is just a nickel plated one from ebay
technically not stainless & doesnt match perfectly but its also so small you can't notice it unless you look closely at it
im debating buying a nickel plated extractor because i cannot find an inox extractor to save my life, everywhere says its discontinued
ive read a lot of forums about people 'ghosting' the american inox and what ive read is beretta only sells the parts in small batches a few times a year(historically spring) so you have to get email notifications or setup something to monitor a web page to notify when it says its in stock
currently it looks like its out of stock again, i was using notifications from midwest gunworks and got the inox safety, hammer, trigger, recoil rod, lanyard loop, & firing pin block all from midwest gun works across the past month or so, im hoping that the parts arent like a year wait for you
LTT might also have the trigger job in a bag with all nickel plated parts that look very inox like come in stock again but that kit is also $600 but it is also a complete upgrade to all the springs and trigger action
>>
>>64998906
to add onto >>64998937, id highly recommend skipping the inox trigger bar & getting the LTT NP3 trigger bar
huge upgrade to the trigger reset, doesnt perfectly match the inox look but its very similar and its a night & day different for the trigger, after installing it i'd never use a stock beretta again

if you have the patience, another option is sanding off the finish & polishing parts
the disassembly button in >>64998963 this picture was a spare black disassembly button i had & i just sanded it down, didn't even polish it

The 50 FPS gain is an average and unlikely to make an appreciable difference provided the bullet design itself is GTG
>>
>>64999199
Digits ignored. A .22 revolver is a range toy
>>
>>64999199
Single six, I guess, it's thicker than wrangler and bearcat. Plus, you get a 22 wmr cylinder.
>>
>>64999217
>provided the bullet design itself is GTG
800 fps might be enough to expand a super special buscadero tyconda, not a run of the mill hollow point
again, this is against the grain of modern terminal ballistics, imo, hollow points that expand at slow speed because they are designed to be weak and bendy, and hollow points that are roughly exposed chonk of soft lead, as well as softpoints, that are forced to expand due to them traveling at breakneck speed, are not the same, and it is the second one that does more damage
>>
>>64999217
>>64999224
Keep in mind that most of those expansion tests you see run are just ballistics gel, maybe with a layer of fabric. Look at some more realistic tests like the late PH's meat target and you'll see that actually getting expansion is an issue in many self defense loads if there is any significant clothing or bone involved.
>>
>>64999245
Bone? You mean a much more debilitating injury of having a bullet punch through a rib shattering it and spitting bone fragments?

Expansion doesn’t kill, punching holes in things that are vital are. Expansion prevents the round from exiting and going through 30 layers of the high tech fleece bullet stop
>>
>>64999249
You neglect to mention that expansion improves probability of hitting something critical on the way through and causing your target to no longer be an immediate threat, vs just making a nice little hole through a lung while narrowly missing aorta or heart, allowing your target can continue to go nig mode on you while he more slowly bleeds out.
>>
>>64999249
>Expansion doesn’t kill
There are two ways expansion kills, one is >>64999260
Another is commonly seen with rifle projectiles that are intended for hunting. The purpose of expansion is very easily understood by looking at the meat - during the process of expansion, the bullet delivers a lot of damage to the flesh, resulting in wound channel that is sometimes even larger than expanded bullet diameter. A non-expanding bullet pencils through an animal and does not deliver the same damage. It's not the size of the bullet after expansion that kills at high velocity, but the mere fact that meat target experienced the force equal to that which fucked up the shape of the projectile.
