OK, see you again Wednesday
>>65002047Finally, I never thought I'd see that dayThank you anon, from the bottomof my heartTime for some Girls und Muskets
Uniforms were glorious back then We must go back
>>65002132Needs gore I'm afraid. But good art
Thanks now I have to play TW Empire again
>>65002146>>65002149The contrast between the beauty of the uniforms and the maneuvers and the violence of the fighting must have been something
>artist only posts their art on twitter>overwhelming majority of media they post is not art>have to sort through shitloads of other stuff to find their workMany such cases!>>65002146If you can convince every military on earth to abandon smokeless powder and any IFF technology more advanced than a giant flag, then you just might get your wish.
>>65002157Personally I prefer NTW
I miss him so much
Thread themehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_voeDUF3xLE
>>65002175>have to sort through shitloads of other stuff to find their workAgreed, that's kind of annoyingBut it's worth it, especially with this artist. His art is gorgeous as well as accurate
>>65002176I just wish the map was bigger for Nap
Ridley Scott's Napoleon was a disgrace. The Emperor deserves so much better than shit made by an arrogant bri*ish boomer
>>65002204Agreed, even though i understand why it's the way it is. The Napoleonic wars were almost exclusively an European affaire, unlike the 7 Years War
>>65002053
>>65002206The era of 20,000 Red Army extras in formation is over. It's all CGI slop in depressing blue tint until the heat death of the universe.
>>65002217It's sad Korea didn't manage to do a Meiji style modernization during the XIXth century, would've spared them centuries of suffering at the hands of their neighbors
>>65002221If only Kubrick made its Napoleon movieOh, what could have been...
>>65002221
>>65002222Check'dAbsolute crime, really, because written and oral accounts indicate that, once matchlocks were obtained in the 16th century, the Mukhbangs were damned innovative and forward-thinking with musketry. Their matchlock troops could've probably gone toe-to-toe with the best from Europe or Turkey.
>>65002232>once matchlocks were obtained in the 16th century, the Mukhbangs were damned innovative and forward-thinking with musketryIf only they had adopted them earlier, as the Japanese did, they might have been better able to hold their ground on land. The Korean archers were excellent, but they were no match for the matchlock-wielding AshigarusOr maybe it would have changed little, considering how fucked and corrupted Korean political leadership was
>>65002231Deep down, I think we all want to ruffle Lord Yoshitsune's hair.
>>65002232Koreans were some crafty mfs. Their military during the 15th and 16th centuries was kino, especially their navy. Their artillery was a marvel of ingenuity, in particular the hwachaIf I ever write a fantasy novel, I'll definitely make a gunpowder based nation and base them on Joseon Korea
>>65002260I'm guessing that their two big problems were:>dependence on big brother China>lack of further innovations/extreme isolation keeping them stuck in the matchlock age
>>65002226His* not its, shitSorry for being a dirty ESL
>>65002226This art make me wonder : why wasn't cuirassier type armor more widespread among infantry units during the Napoleonic wars?
>>65002178I think this is the only drawing he's made that defies his same-face tendencies.
>>65002280supposedly they didn't provide worthwhile protection against long guns of the period, and were more for blades/polearms/pistols
>>65002268Yeah, they kinda grew complacent and didn't manage to wake up in time like the Japanese didThat same complacency nearly cost them their existence when the Japanese invaded in the 1590sAs for their dependence on China, I'm not sure much could have been changed even if the Koreans wanted to, given the geographic proximity between the two
>>65002190>Not https://youtu.be/VkjpaxBlKIU
>>65002320That's probably itI also thought it was too expensive, but armies during the pike and shot era could equip thousands of pikemen with cuirass, so I'm not sure it was a reason
>>65002327CuteBut I have better :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njw-g09XPmM
>>65002226Barry Lyndon still haunts me. It was too relatable.
>>65002315Speaking of, I love how >>65002126 draws different facial features for each of the girls. They all look like unique individuals despite the uniforms
>>65002315>same-face tendencies. It never bothered me honestly
>>65002132I love his art but I am not sure how I feel about cute girls in cute uniforms getting violently murdered
>>65002406>I am not sure how I feel about cute girls in cute uniforms getting violently murderedI understand, but they're ready to fight and die for King and Country, who are we to deny them that
>>65002406Thanks for the better quality pic anon
>>65002336Armies were a lot larger Napoleonic wars than earlier wars, with conscription used on a much larger scale. And also I think there was a general disregard for armor in most countries by this time, most nation's heavy cavalry were unarmored and the Britbongs didn't start using cuirasses again until they faced off against french cuirassiers.
>>65002430hngg , those tight pants really does stuff to me, are we sure Napeleonic uniforms weren't made for women instead?
>>65002455Shame most of his stuff isnt on the boorus, I can't stand looking through twitter
>>65002458Never forget what they took from us
I'm tired of medieval isekai/fantasy, I want ro see Elf hussards battling it out with Orc fusiliers, and I want it now
>>65002441I see, that makes sense>Britbongs didn't start using cuirasses again until they faced off against french cuirassiers.Didn't know that, thanks anon, I'll go to bed a little wiser tonight
>>65002468better quality version

>>65002472There is a manga series that is somewhat similar to what you're describing, The History of The Kingdom of Orcsen. Basically light elves went all out genocidal monsters on all other races within their territory before turning on the other elven races. The story follows the last survivors of the dark elves who get saved by an unlikely race, the orcs, who then take them in as a special regiment in their army in preparation for the inevitable war against the light elves.

>>65002320>>65002336It was that by 1800 the weight of an armor plate that was thick enough to provide protection against musket/rifle shot at under 200 yards was just unreasonably heavy to wear, even for a man on a horse. For a man on foot it would have been exhausting just to try and move into action on the battlefield, let alone then try and fight while wearing it.
>>65002582What, you can't go two fucking seconds without trying to be the center of attention you fucking woman?

>Single origin small batch artisanal milk that gives you the name and picture of the specific cow it was milked from on the back>Advertised with anime girls of course, depending on what specific breed of cow (or even goat) it came from the design of the character changes (Holstein means motherly woman in a turtleneck and cow print apron, Guernsey is a "fresh baked cookies" vibe older sister, goat milk is a tanned tomboy)Awww yeah, no we got a real business idea...
>>65003274Fuck off already schizo
>>65003457>Goat milk = tomboyAs a premi who had to be given goat milk, this makes sense. Then again who doesn’t like tomboys?

>>65003457just imagine the mad dash that would happen the moment somebodys cow waifu dies and the last milk bottles are sold, and that one guy that inevitably attempts to keep said milk even when it spoils

>>65003477No.
>>65003457>brown tomboys are not JerseysKiefer anon, what’s your guide on it? I have access to infinite gallons of exceptionally clean raw milk.
When will my raifu come to GFL2? I will start playing again for her...
>>65003487Hi fellow premi. How early were you born? I was 11 weeks. Why were you given goat milk?
Anyone have the image of Miku and Teto as gangsters holding AKs?
>>65004085Kefir is super easy, a lot of the online advice over complicates the shit out of it for no reason.>get kefir grains>put them in milk (probably start with 500ml, it takes a few days for them to "wake up" so the first few batches will be watery)>change out milk about every 24 hours, just get a bowl and strainer, stainless steel is fine, and shake or stir until most the liquid is gone>put the grains back into the jar and add more milk, pour kefir into whatever to drink or store (if it's airtight make sure it's either in the fridge or has an inch of room on top, shit can explode)>rinse and repeat>if you're ever going away for a few days just put the kefir jar in the fridge with fresh milk, the grains go to sleep and keep for a while
>>65003457What would water buffalo milk be? Huge powerlifter waifu?>>65004085Have you ever seen a Jersey cow? They're small and adorable, and produce notably smaller amounts of very creamy milk, Jerseys would probably be something like a sweet aunt or potentially even shy girl trope.
>>65002472>medievalat risk of making a controversial take, I'd argue that the average fantasy hardly even has superficial resemblance to that or any other time or place and calling it "medieval" is a disservice to actual history
>>65002221NTA, but even aside from the CGI, which as you say is the only practical way to show battles these days, it was just a very poorly made movie.
>>65004840yeah, the CGI was the least of its issues
>>65004737I milk jerseys and holsteins every day of the week. I work in a dairy. I just can’t see tomboys represented by goats, seems like a disservice. Have some udderhttps://files.catbox.moe/m0ayqf.jpeg
>>65002280Mobility. Cavalry can avoid walking by riding horses. Infantry cant avoid the reality that they have to walk with their own legs and carry all the weight. The typical rifle resistant cuirass had a weight above 5kg on average and close to 6kg.https://european-armour.com/A-79.html>Shoot-proof or rifle resistant breastplate with a weight around 6.6 kg from 1590https://european-armour.com/A-330.html>Arrow resistant and practically speaking immune to all mele weapons breastplate with a weight of 2.16 kg from 1480-1490. 1/3 of the musket resistant plate weightThere is a study titled "For show or safety - a study on structure, ballistic performance and authenticity of seventeenth century breastplates" that did destructive testing on two old breastplates, one with a weight of 5.48 kg and the other 2.42kg. and they came to the conclusion that a breastplate needs to have thickness above 5mm to resist most long muskets at 100 meters and some at 30 meters. The typical breastplate with an average thickness of 5mm but a maximum thickness above 5mm would have a weight around 6.7 kg in that estimation but would still be vulnerable to musket fire closer then 30 meters. Pistol proof only breastplate would have a thickness above 3mm up to 4mm and would have a weight between 4 and 5.4 kg. If you want point blank range protection against all muskets then you need a thickness around 8 or 10mm and the corresponding weight would be 10.8 - 13.4kg which is armor only found to be carried by some insane cavalrymen.According to the "The History of the Soldier's load" published in 2010 in the Australian Army Journal the typical weight a frenchie carried during the napolenic war was 27.5 kg with it going down to slightly below 25kg at during the battle of waterloo. Every kg counts when you are marching and marching fast will win you battles to quote >"to win the Battle of Dresden, Napoleon reportedly marched his army a staggering 144 kilometres in 72 hours""

Why were the Swedes so good at war in the 17th and 18th centuries? Why did they fell off afterwards?
I want to learn more about Finnish military units in the Napoleonic Wars. Any anon got stuff to recommend on the topic?
>>65002458Napoleonic fashion was unmatched, and Hussards were the most flamboyant in armies already full of flamboyance
How the fuck do you keep that kind of uniforms clean in the field?
>>65002280The infantry needs to walk to reach the battlefield while cuirassiers just ride their horse. Having your men carry a metal cuirasse is going to slow them down and tire them out faster. Also you have many, many more infantry soldiers than cuirassiers so even if you wanted to carry the damn, things on horse-drawn wagons you would need a shitload of those. And to reiterate on the walking, the speed of French infantry was one of the biggest advantage Napoleon had, it allowed him to outmaneuver his opponents again and again on the strategic level (textbook examples, his entire first Italian campaign, Ulm, Davout forcemarching III Corps to Austerlitz just in time to stop the Russian left wing). On top of that, the costs involved probably didn't help, while it made sense to fork the money to maximize the effect of your precious shock cavalry, for infantry the equation was different.tldr: outfitting infantry with cuirasse just wasn't practical, if it was then someone would have done it.
I've been delving deep into French military History latelyI never really found French surrender jokes funny, but now I find them kinda irritatingI get that poking fun at the French is tradition, at least for the Anglos, but more and more people seem to take the memes at face value and genuinely believe this bullshit
It's getting late where I am, and this thread will probably be over before I wake upSo, time to dump
>>65005411>Why were the Swedes so good at war in the 17th and 18th centuries?Warrior kings that actually knew what they were doing and successfully lead from the front. They knew their own strengths and weaknesses, acted accordingly. They pioneered new weapons and tactics, inventing practical field guns and integrating them with the infantry, thereby inventing an early form of fire&movement.Intensely studying and developing new ideas their enemies wouldn't expect, rather than relying on things like 300-year old troop that formations everyone else used. Relatively small troop numbers meant they reduce their logistical burden to fuck-all by scavenging and living off the land (looting and robbery). This allowed them to move at far greater speed than their rivals.Fluidity and flexibility. Rather than doing the "honorable" thing and meeting the enemy in staged battles, they'd rather dodge a difficult fight and bypass the enemy, opting to fight in other times and places that favored their own side better. All the Swedish troops were professional soldiers, most of their enemies weren't. They relied on a reputation of brutality and ferocity foster fear among their enemies, often causing much larger forces to retreat in panic even when the enemy forces had the upper hand.Swedish infantry carried swords and axes long after other nations had stopped doing that, and after the Swedish musketeers had their last volleys, they'd charge at their enemies screaming, blades in hand. This alone was often enough to cause undisciplined opponents to break formation and flee.>Why did they fell off afterwards?Continued in the next post:
>>65005534Continued...>Why did they fell off afterwards? The great warrior kings died. The Monarchy lost power and the country was run by an ultra-corrupt "democracy" instead. There was a bit of a succession crisis and after a series weird events which involved Count Axel Von Fresen, who was George Washington's French/English translator during the revolutionary war, and who was the lover of Marie Antoinette, getting lynched in the street, a new King called Gustaf III took the throne. King Gustaf III lead a revolution and successfully restore the absolute monarchy, but he turned out to be a literal fag that just wanted to play dress up and do theater writing/acting all day.Gustaf III ordered a pointless and ill-advised war against Russia, the officers in charge of that war had no hope of winning so they brokered their own peace deal with Empress Catherine "The Great" of Russia and surrendered.Sweden had to hand over Finland to Russia. All the officers were charged with treason and sentenced to death. Most were pardoned at the chopping block, but one was still beheaded.Everyone blamed King Gustaf III and he was subsequently assassinated.Everyone agreed the that both the Royal family and the corrupt democratic government sucked, they wanted a new line of warrior kings. So they just found a promising warrior and elected him king, he was Karl XIV Johan, formerly Jean Bernadotte, one of Napoleon’s old generals.Napoleon came back the France and stared a bunch of new wars. Sweden came out on the winning side, but at that point everyone was just tired of fighting pointless wars. Before the modern era, the last formal war Sweden was involved in was teaming up with this brand new country called USA to fight various state-sponsored muslim pirates in the Mediterranean. The Bernadotte family are still the reigning monarchs in Sweden. Although the royal duties are almost entirely ceremonial, the King is still technically the supreme commander of the armed forces.
>>65005482>if it was then someone would have done it.unfortunately there's a common mentality among normies where if they don't understand why something was done a certain way in the past, they won't even consider that they might be missing key information explaining why, and instead just dismiss it as people in the past just being too arrogant and ignorant to think of it themselves (obviously failing to notice that they're the arrogant and ignorant one)
>>65005534>>65005541Fascinating, thanks anon>they just found a promising warrior and elected him king, he was Karl XIV Johan, formerly Jean Bernadotte, one of Napoleon’s old generals. He went from a simple French soldiers and became a king. It's impressive how much the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars shook up the social status quo in Europe. Good for Bernadotte tho
>>65005550>just dismiss it as people in the past just being too arrogant and ignorantI get your point, but people in the past definitely were just arrogant and ignorant sometimes too
>>65005541Bernadotte basically told Napoleon to fuck off when asked to join him against the European coalitions. He put the interest of his new nation over those of his country of origin. I respect thatt, even though I understand why the French saw him as a traitorNapoleon's brother Louis did the same when he was king of Holland, and he lost his throne for itAlso, fun fact, Bernadotte has a "death to kings" tattoo, a remannt of his revolutionary youth
>>65005558>He went from a simple French soldiers and became a king.Funniest thing about the whole story was that the guy was a STAUNCH anti-monarchist in his youth.Bernadotte turned his back on Napoleon when he decided to crown himself emperor. There's an unconfirmed rumor that all the royal servants and the king's friends thought weird and extremely prudish because he refused to let anyone see him undressed. He was only ever naked around his wife, and ONLY his wife. No one else. Strict rules against servants intruding while he was bathing, refusing to undress for doctors, etc.Supposedly, after he died, people found out he had a large tattoo from his youth as a revolutionary anti-Monarchist that simply read "DEATH TO KINGS!" in French.
>>65005574Bernadotte was a hypocritical weasel and Napoleon should have allowed based Davoult (by far a better man and general than Bernad*tte or even Napoleon) to kill him with his bare hands after Jena–Auerstedt. He deserved to lose his throne just for denying him the opportunity.
