we've gone from the serbian cope of shooting 1 plane down to the middle east cope of damaging 1 plane.

Just imagine being the retard of a pilot who is the only one who ever got his F-35 hit by enemy fire.

That's literally the F-35 sales pitch.

>F-22 looking visibly pissed offf, as usual
>Sees a Chinese child in a stroller with a balloon
>She walks over and pops it
>Kid starts loudly crying
>Doesn't feel any better
>Starts yelling out "One of your cowards, fight me!"
>No response
>Throws her hands up and walks home to polish off a bottle of bourbon by herself
>Gets a phone call that F-35 scored her first A2A
>Bottle through the TV

This is extremely common in journalism and for some reason it's only a problem when the sources are saying things that people don't like. Makes you think.
>>
>>65005038
Why does that have mocap dots on it?
>>
>>65005106
Sources say is just as legitimate as 4chan's screenshots honestly.

Journalism hasn't had a modicum of rigor or integrity in decades. Modern journalist cycle is an ouroboros quoting each other as fast as possible only to find out the original source was Bob T. Buttfuck on twitter/telegram.
>>
>>65005807
The F-35 being "the most expensive military program in human history, including accounting for inflation" is a good example of that. Every major monied news outlet began just spamming that without explaining where they heard that from in 2012 or 13 and kept going until like 2016. They were literally just saying it because the rest of them were saying it.
>>
>>65005647
They had a camera plane with them to do engineering/equipment testing photography/filming. You might notice it on other footage of weapons test flights.
>>
>>65005647
>>65006242
And more specifically, it's for high-speed photogrammetry - using multiple images from different angles to map out a 3D model, and fast enough to detect all of the flutter/wingflex during various speeds and maneuvers to qualify the attachments and make sure they don't put too much stress on anything.

It means the source is 'trust me bro'. The problem isn't that people don't accept that for things they don't like, the problem is that people do accept it for things they do like.
>>
>>65005807
As far as I know the original source of the pilot getting hit with shrapnel is Air and Space Forces Magazine, seems pretty reputable.
>>
>>65006348
That isn't true. When an American journalist writing for a billion dollar media group say "anonymous government sources", what they really mean is "the official story from the US government to be distributed to the American people on explicit command by the US officials".

The source is not "trust me bro", the source is "this is the official US position, told explicitly in the manner where you're expected to add caveats that don't really exist to it". You thinking it might not be the official US position is the caveat that doesn't really exist.

Gonna be honest with you, Chief. The YF-23 should have been picked up as a replacement for the Strike Eagle. Imagine a supersonic, low level, stealth interdictor and strike aircraft that's also capable of telling enemy fighters to fuck off.
>>
>>65006449
The F-15E is all of those things.

The F-23 wouldn't have been, had it been made.
>>
>>65006400
But there's still no way for anyone random civilian to check, so as far as anyone outside of those institutions is concerned it is still just trust me bro. You can trust bro if you like, but that is what you are doing.
>>
>>65006620
No, anon, that is the official US position, expressed as though it isn't. In the millions of instances of US anonymous government sources in the past decades, exactly zero have been anonymous to the US government. Hence they aren't.

>but you're just trusting the
No I'm not. Pointing out official positions matters. Those, all of those, are official positions greenlit by the US government officially in a manner where the greenlight is withheld from the citizenry. What ACTUALLY MATTERS is that those are ALL official US government positions.

>“So the way that I would describe it is, they are low-drag tanks. So the way you could interpret that is, they wouldn’t necessarily be required to punch [be jettisoned] to be in a combat scenario,” Katie Ciccarino, Vice President of the F-22 Program at Lockheed Martin, also told TWZ directly when asked about this specific detail in an interview on the sidelines of the 2026 Warfare Symposium. “They are [jettisonable] if you needed to be in a scenario where you had to, but the idea would be that you don’t have to, and you can perform any of the same maneuvers that you would on a clean wing with these tanks.”
doubt.
why make them jettisonable when that's not needed?
>>
>>65010462
Because it's against the laws of physics for it to be 1:1 versus not having them and I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt on assuming she didn't mean to imply they broke physics.
I think what they mean is that they want performance to be good enough for dropping the tanks to be a last resort, versus in something like a Viper where it's the first thing you do if you get into trouble.

can they?
vipers can just switch from lantirn to sniper pods. meanwhile lightnings cannot be taken out of action for months for an upgrade and have to do with inferior sensors.
>>
>>65010517
What are you even talking about. If it's the best solution is different from if it's how they're doing it. You seem to be conflating the two, for some reason.
It also offers significant advantages. Less blind spots, no additional store conflict, weight or drag, every aircraft already equipped, and if it's like most of them then it's deliberately designed to be modular so you just need to swap the units out for newer ones and flash the new firmware, so I'm really not sure about the 'for months' thing. Maybe to do a full block 4 conversion or something, but not for the EOTS.
The issue causing the delay here is more to do with the program than any inherent inferiority of doing a distributed system.

The only thing the only actual real source on this has said, is that an F35 encountered mechanical issues and RTB’d, not even the actual hit is confirmed. You guys are desperate.

>>65005174
Except that’s still not confirmed to have even happened.

thirdie contrarian moment, not how that works.
>b-but this is true because i wrote a fanfiction about it
No, it’s not, “sources say” is just a literally who giving them an excuse to make a clickbait article.
>>
>>65006656
>i-it is
>because it just is okay!?
It isn’t.
>>
>>65010765
Why did centcom feel the need to add that the pilot was 'in stable condition' if it was a routine mechanical malfunction?
>>
>>65010791
>this brownoid has never seen an engine with a hole in the block, or a grenaded transmission
Come on turdie I know you're fucking stupid but surely even you're aware that when machines fail they sometimes throw metal around violently. A blown hydraulic fitting would certainly throw some chunks at speed and cause an emergency RTB. The only argument you have is an AIslop clip, "sources", and your own ass to pull out of.

I mean, it is a victory for Iran, in the same fashion as when à 5 year old kid manages a lucky punch on an adult.
The act itself feels like success even if it doesn't affect the fight's outcome.
