they're quadcopters, i don't think normal military air defense picks them up. also the bases look abandoned or lightly staffed.

US forces use this one trick called 'find cover' so they do not get droned.
This is because they found out that replacing an 18 year old private takes 18 years, but building a new helo or radar takes a year or so.

More specifically it was when the marines decided to pull the Haditha massacre. Before that the quods/ irgc trained militias were actually quite useful and helpful especially in Basra after the British literally just randomly abandoned the entire city. After the massacre the irgc could no longer control them so basically that's when the trouble started, and quods wouldn't come back until several years later in Tikrit and Kirkuk. Little known nuance of the super fun happy times in the middle east.

I have suffered through every single one of his public appearances. I suffered through Bidens speeches as well, but at least he could stay generally on topic, even if he wandered off in a daze after.
It seems like some law was implemented 20 years ago stating that the presidents talks and speeches must be as unbearable as possible so that the fewest people will actually listen to them.

Warhead isn't big enough and even if it was, a few casualties doesn't materially shift the balance of power. Whereas radar isn't something with deep reserves and even temporary loss of radar coverage makes it easier to conduct follow-on strikes. Same goes for the helicopter, that's one less platform trying to find and fix their operatives' location, which enhances their freedom of maneuver and makes it easier both to evade retaliation and conduct subsequent attacks.

to qualify for protected status medical vehicles, facilities and personnel have to be completely unarmed, clearly marked, and not engage in any kind of 'acts harmful to the enemy' which includes gathering intel or transporting non-medical supplies like ammo. obviously the realities of war mean this gets blurred a lot even when people aren't deliberately trying to skirt the law. even a soldier carrying a personal weapon while evacuating wounded means they're not protected by the convention.

>They literally just took out the Caspian Sea military logistics route between Iran and Russia.
I think that's an underrated development. However you might be misinterpreting it a little.

>Ivan ain't getting his Shaheds no more.
It's probably actually the other way around.

Shaheds have been found with Russian components, mostly the GLONOSS receivers.
They're probably coming from Alubaga because the production sites in Iran are ashes and rubble.
Keeping Iran in the fight extends the distraction from Ukraine and depletes interceptor missiles that might otherwise go to Ukraine. It's clearly in Russia's interests to keep that war going as long as possible and increase the damage and disruption to the US, Europe and the world in general.

They're not exactly a client of Russia but they do lease bases to Russia.
They're somewhat friendly with Iran but have many differences, not least of which is that they crack down hard on Islam (police shaving beards, hajibs are banned or discouraged) and they're 97% Sunni anyway.

The Russians in Israel probably fall into several somewhat distinct groups though.
More than a few are likely to be escapees who loath Russia, some will be dissidents who loath Putin and the Siloviki...and of course, some are the Siloviki who decided that the things are too hot in Moscow and aren't keen on sticking around for what's happening now or what comes next.

I had the impression that young Iranians wanted to do away with the theocracy. I had a Counter Strike lesson from an Iranian pro who spoke perfect English volubly and spoke it at home with his family. He was a lovely person: very intelligent and friendly. I learned a lot from him. I would hate to think of anyone like him catching a jdam or gbu because they were conscripted or happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and Trump decided ... Idk ... What did trump decide? To attack Iran why? I'm not anti-semitic in the slightest and have or have had numerous Jewish friends and lovers (both practicing and not practicing judaism) but it's difficult for me to look at Trump and not call him an utter golem lacking in any form of agency and having no loyalty to the United States or regard for the interests of the United States; he certainly has no concern for American service people or citizens. Zion don indeed. It is not my country's responsibility to pursue Israel's military objectives when Israel insists on alienating every single solitary country in the region, committing human rights violations and breaking agreements year after year, and then when Hamas attacks them they act like they hadn't given Palestinians reason to oppose Israel and respond with a scorched earth campaign of genocide and subjugation. Even Turkey objects to Israel's conduct. I don't support Hamas or terrorism but I sure as shit don't support fighting Israel's war for them when it's tanking the US stock markets not to mention driving up fuel prices.

I am accustomed to regarding my government as incompetent since the last 12 years of reactionary populist movements have rendered over a decade of "populist amateur hour" in Washington DC and state governments but this has largely been confined to hurtful rhetoric and somewhat ineffectual attempts at oppressing trans people such as myself through legislation and undermining individual liberties by sabotaging the judiciary branch by stacking benches with extremely biased judges. the medical establishment is overwhelmingly against the reactionary tide and has firmly set standards that have force and effect, and the say of some grassroots community organizers however shrill has little weight in comparison to multiple boards of physicians with specialties. however, it is entirely another matter when the amateurs take the reins of the US military and destabilize a major regional power. this is reminiscent of how ISIS took over Syria although the circumstances were not similar; nevertheless if there is a power vacuum and numerous heavily armed groups such as the irgc and regional extremist militias and no presumptive secular successor government, the authoritarian theocracy was at least a government of some kind that HAD authority and could command the obedience of these armed groups and bring about a ceasefire for example. I don't know what trump thought he would gain except perhaps to get Iran to stop firing missiles at Israel. I doubt he will take this opportunity to resolve some of the regional conflicts such as the Palestine conflict and I expect a status quo with this entire exercise having been nothing more than a propaganda and pr exercise.

Preference based voting ensures that no political change can happen unless the establishment allows it. See: France
>>

I realise France is a bad example of that even though it effectively ends up being the same (it's very easy to block other parties from gaining power even if they have the votes)
Australia is probably a better example, it's impossible to start a 3rd party let alone gain any sort of power as one.

>Bongland is THE 2 party FPTP centrist nation and its currently in upheaval of parties
Personally, I feel that NZ's system is the absolute best.
It was a little bit controversial but it killed the duopoly dead and broke them up into minor parties around based various related issues and flexible coalitions became the order of the day.

Australia has a "duopoly" that is actually a coalition of conservative nationalists+business sellouts vs a sorta-leftish party that sometimes gets into bed with greens (real left).
For one government, the leftish party (labor) had to form a coalition with greens to govern and it was the best and safetest government in decades because the greens wouldn't let labor bend over for corporations and mining oligarchs but anything really important that the greens got in the way of would get some conservatives on board and pass anyway.
Basically no politicians could do anything they really wanted to but were generally able to do whatever they really needed to.

It was a beautiful four years.

On a historical scale, the US is definitely responsible for the current situation, they just couldn't leave a left-wing democratically elected government alone.

Regardless of how it all started though, Iran has created any number of provocations that are sufficient casus beli and even if not, they just slaughtered tens of thousands of their own citizens for wanting a new government so fuck them, that alone would be enough reason to go in with tanks on compassionate grounds alone.

Uhh... that's by design my guy. Feature not a bug. Do you think the Democrats and Republicans in charge want to change this and invite competition? Of course not, so it's never going to happen. And there is certainly some benefit from this system towards continuity in the operation of the country and especially foreign policy.

The major problem that I see is things do cross into "uniparty" territory, like with support for Israel as the prime example. But on domestic issues, the Overton window has been getting dragged further and further left, with the GOP not really doing anything at all to combat that and defend actual conservatism. That's the real dysfunction, not the fact that there are only two parties. There's a huge unmet demand for more hardline right-wingers so we'll see where that goes. The left is happily running actual Communist freaks like Ilhan Omar under their "big tent," while the GOP eschews more radical positions within its sphere. So the result is that we have a huge swath of the country pretending that a 90s Democrat is ackshually Hitler. And in response to that, a sizable minority wants an actual real Hitler.

Having said all of that, I might even agree with rank choice voting as possible solution but I'd need to analyze that in depth to have an informed opinion. Which I won't be doing since changing the way voting works is never ever happening, not in a million years. That's even more difficult than getting Congress to stop insider trading lol.

No they wouldn't you dumb nigger. Germany didn't have the oil reserves nor industrial capacity to rival the Allies. Even at peak size, Germany didn't hold a candle to the resources of the US and Commonwealth.
>>
>>65010731
The reality is that Germany never had a shot against the USSR because they were running a 35% oil deficit at the start of Barbarossa and reliant on foot armies and horse drawn logistics. That's a big part of why they went in to the east begin with, but it was Hitler who was trying to remedy the oil problem with opposition from his generals. He wanted to focus on advancing south to the Caucuses to capture the USSR's oil while his generals were obsessed with taking Moscow. That's why Panzer armies got shuffled between Army Group South and Center multiple times during Barbarossa, at times in defiance to Hitler's orders.

Eventually Hitler did get a bit stubborn about no retreats after he failed to take Stalingrad, but by then the war in the East was very much lost already. So I am not denying that there were compounding leadership mistakes but that mostly came later when the entire war was a lost cause. And at that point him listening to his generals would have just resulted in faster retreats.

You also have to keep in mind that if Germans had held out even a few more months they would have gotten nuked. So it's actually laughable to say "the Germans would have won 9 out of 10 times." With hindsight, we can say they would have won 0 out of 10 times because the chances of taking and holding the Caucuses were non-existent. And that was the only apparent path to victory. But all of that would have just resulted in them getting decimated by nukes.

From a military and strategic standpoint, it was a shot worth taking, at least for us with Iran not necessarily for Hitler with the USSR, as per: >>65033029

The key is to pivot out of it correctly, which we seem to be doing with the Hormuz coalition. The developments there have been under-reported on for two weeks, but there are strong commitments from the UK to send warships and 30+ other countries on board. The US will just pull out and allow our best European friends to take over. Iran is in no position to do anything about it because they cannot afford to draw the rest of NATO into the fight against them.

My mind would be blown if Trump announces some kind of ground operation tonight. None of the incentives are there for that and yesterday he said we will be done in 2-3 weeks which doesn't leave time for any kind of ground operation. I think tonight we are getting a victory speech, a wind-down plan, and a mention of how the coalition will be securing shipping for the long-term with lengthy deployments in the strait.
