If you enlisted in the navy but have second thoughts about it can you, when contract ends, enlist in the army instead and keep the rating? I didnt know theres no wifi. I asked my CO but he said to just not think about it or that id get used to it

I don't understand the question. The Army doesn't even have rates like the Navy so how could you retain your rating? If you want to go Army as a BM and keep doing BM stuff you can "sail Army" with their riverine group but afaik that's pretty much entirely a reserve group not AD

If you're boaty navy they'll stick you in CofE fucking with Locks and Dams on the Mississippi and Ohio. Or you'll be a bridge&barge bunny.

Bosun's Mate. General scutwork, he's a rope-fag and boat jannie. Doesn't have to deal with the really fucked-up shit like Hull Techs (AKA the welders and plumbers) or Damage Control do, but it's generally considered one of the worst and most dangerous jobs on a ship.

You can, theoretically, go cross-service but you're going to need to offer them something worth hiring you for. I'd recommend trying to crosstrain as Shore Patrol or picking up some engineering classes. The Army really, really likes taking on Navy military police (especially as prison guards) and the Corps of Engineers have space for guys with sea legs. Your other option is to transfer over to the Merchant Marine. Better pay, less chance of getting shot at and fewer pinheads fucking with you, but you also have less job protection if you're not motivated and squared-away. Which it sounds like you aren't.
Other option is to use whatever time you've got spare to crosstrain for a different rate. It's relatively easy for a Seaman or Third-class to swap career tracks on your first re-up. Again, you'd have to show some initiative. Talk to your career counselor, maybe bring the personnel yeomen some pancit and sweet-talk 'em. Look up courses you have access to. Don't just sit back on your ever-widening ass and try to get your division officer to do shit for you, they'll happily let you sit and spin for three years and tell you to not let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

HTs unfortunately are functionally extinct. They have 1 MC slot a year. The DC rate was a mistake. DC are the most useless creatures on God's oceans after OS. Navy should permanently shitcan the entire DC rate and just assign those billets 1:1 for HTs.

Why isn't there wifi on ships? There was wifi in cruise i was on.

Just get a Starlink and bribe the XO to cover for you.

Army watercraft is full of prior navy. There are 'officers' that command companies but all of the ships officers are warrants. You need to really like boats, though, this is a career move for seamen that dont think the navy spends enough time underway. Iirc there are only two MOSs, deck and engineering, so there is a lot more crosstraining than the navy.

They probably don't have wifi either.

That’s how it used to be. Then the Stark ate an Exocet, and the Navy decided to reactivate the DC rating.

Plumbing. For 6000 people, with a large number of women's bathrooms*. Jammed into a quarter-mile long, 100-yard wide floating city. Some of the plumbing is radioactive. And every little leak and drip on the rest of the ship heads down into a horrible toxic pool of sludgewater on top of the keel. Guess who gets to go down there to make sure the pumps are working and clean the fuckers? So yeah. Nobody but nobody envies the plumbers. And that's before you get into exciting shit like having to do welding on a ship underway.

Kind of odd logic. "You know that rating watching that saved the ship in quite a severe missile hit emergency? Let's fuck with that"

>>65007366
There's a program called Blue to Green for that. You don't keep your rating but you keep your rank
They usually only accept you if you are being PTS'd out.
>>
>>65012339
everyone is trained to do DC
DC men just do maintenance on the scbas
HTs could do that and also have a use when the ship isn't sinking
