what are some things to look out for when reloading used brass? will unsafe defects be obvious or do i need a trained eye not to blow myself up?
>>
You can make a test mold out of anything solid to sit on and roll the brass. If it wobbles like a bent wheel, you discard it.

Cracks, discoloration, bulges, tearing near the case head, warping, etc. Stuff that's overpressure will usually be difficult to eject or have pierced or heavily deformed primers. You're better off looking for some videos on brass reuse, it's really hard to describe if you don't know what the warning signs of a failing case look like.
