You have the choice to have one gun from the present day be transported to you. What would it be?

are the dinos ridiculously strong against bullets ? Am I allowed to carry magazines? Do I have infinite ammo ? Be more precise anon this is a serious board

but like in movies they are literally impossible to kill. Otherwise I have no clue how often I would see a Dino so I will assume it's like seeing an animal in the forest, pretty rare so I don't have to worry about ammo. You don't really need super long range if you have enough stopping power, so I'll say a 20mm grenade launcher. It'll kill everything instantly but the grenades are small enough to carry more than 100 and it's easy to aim

Turns out .45acp is the extinction event that wipes out the dinosaurs.
>>
>>65011221
A quality controlled-round feed bolt action in .458 Lott or .505 Gibbs. Any caliber that can stop an elephant in its tracks with a well-placed round is probably going to work just fine on most dinosaurs.

Only way to not have a horrible death is die in an isolated desert cave. A lot of fossils are from mudslides.

G3 with a collapsing stock, light and a dot, Im still confident .308 would drop most dinosaurs in a burst. Dinosaurs aren't invincible and a lot of the carnivorous ones have hollow bones. If weight wasn't a problem an M240 would be nice but I don't want to carry 30 lbs of gun and it probably wouldnt be necessary unless you were actively fighting something like ceratopsians, ankylosaurs or the biggest theropods of the time. You could probably get away with an AR or AK fine too.

No need. I have the flu right now. Even if I die I will take millions of them with me.
>>
>>65011362
rifling will wear out over time, also good luck making projectiles precisely enough for a rifle
>>
>>65011221
A nice 22lr you can breakdown. You guys thinking you will be on a dino safari are kidding yourselves. You are alone with one gun. Bagging small game with a small caliber is the way to travel light and survive.

Doesn't really matter then because you'll be lucky to last a week. Modern animals, even predators, have millions of years of conditioning to be wary of humans. Dinosaurs would have none of that and would see you the same way a modern crocodile sees you. A lot of them likely had very complex pack hunting strategies and even with infinite ammo you'd be in for a rough time. Limited ammo? If you're lucky you'll survive until it runs out.
>>
>>65011221
die from the oxygen difference
>>
>>65011497
Oxygen was likely adequate, co2 levels were higher but predators, unfamiliar pathogens, and the fauna would be extremely dangerous. You would probably need to stay near a coast, ideally on a small island with fresh water without predators and survive off fish. For this, a .22 rifle would probably be best but honestly i would want a shotgun adequate to kill myself

not unbearably hot. plenty of temperate biomes around, and the hottest hot you have it already in this time.

The prehistoric viruses and bacteria are even scarier since you have zero immunity. Like small pox versus the Americas but worse.

Zoonotic diseases are rare and only originate where people have prolonged contact with high density animal populations. The chance of you catching something in the Cretaceous that is dangerous (outside of like an infected cut or whatever) are far far lower than they are in any given farming village over the last 5000 years, including today.

Why would you not even mention how much ammo we get? Why would the answer to the question be anything other than an extremely high powered rifle if we don't even know how much ammo we get? Stupid thread, op.
>>
>>65011221
You won't survive no matter which gun and even with infinite ammo, Cretaceous was an oven compared to the present day, even MENA folks will die in 24 hours while snownegroes will croak after a couple of hours.

Water in this era has also not been assploded (introducing charcoal, sulfur and other purifying reagents) and Ice Aged multiple times to paleolithic levels, you can't even use it for washing without introducing more bacteria and viruses to yourself.

Probably that new Ruger Alaskan rifle in 9.3x62, preferably with the +2 floorplate that Alaska Arms company makes.
With that, I'll be heading north to Alaska. It was still a bit cold there, with the average temperature being around 32, but that means that I'll be able to preserve food more easily and not have to deal with the larger wildlife down south. Nanuqsaurus would be a threat, but it's not so big that I would feel worried shooting it. Edmontosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus are also big, but I figure as long as I stay out of their nesting and migration areas I should be safe enough. Everything else is small enough to kill with a spear. There are also several salmon, sturgeon, and small mammal species to eat.
>>
I'd probably just take something in REAL FUCKIN' NATO and pray, maybe a FAL. If it can fire after decades in African hands it should work for two weeks innapast. Realistically, if I'm attacked by something that round can't kill and the noise of firing won't scare off I'm probably boned anyway. Not that I'd last long with just what I normally keep on me regardless, but then I also don't own a full power rifle either.

For me, it's the TP-82 cosmonaut survival gun. Three barrels: two shotgun, one rifle. The stock doubles as a machete. If the Soviets trusted it to survive against bears and tigers after landing their spacecraft in Siberia, I can trust it to fend off some dinos.
