Are mag fed Shotguns actually that bad?
>>
>>65019236
most of them do sucks, the one in your pic doesn't, Molot has a strong reputation of making reliable mag fed shotgun, the Saiga 12k however doesn't.
the trukshit work for a bit and then start to fall apart, the rest that worked never got out of prototype phase or was purely made for gov't contracts and then the company who made them either went under or just started making something else.

I have a VRPA-40 with 1.6k rounds through it, it's picky with ammo but perfectly fine otherwise. A lot of people don't load the MKA-1919 mags correctly (they just go down rather than push down, palm back method to avoid rimlock) and complain when the gun locks up.

What makes the mags so bad?

Between the thick rim and flexible casing walls, shotshells just don't stack very well.

Skill issue. Push down palm back. Shell deformation is dependent on ammo type. Does not happen with slugs or larger shot (00).

they're fundamentally retarded, you're taking a plastic, rimmed case that's going to have different overall lengths (even shells of the same "length" are different lengths because that's the uncrimped length) and shoving it into a mag to deform and ger rimlock and also the front is flat so the feeding geometry is ass when it comes to the angle of attack it needs to hit the chamber at.
even if you go look at guns that aren't mall ninja shit, savage sells bolt action slug guns and literally ever review is some version of
>the gun is great but the magazine is so complete and absolute ass I just use it as a single shot but otherwise I love it

shotshells are just not designed to fit in box mags. the rims lock on each other, they are all different lengths, they need a very flat angle of attack to get into the chamber and the hulls are plastic and will deform under stress because the ammo makers only care about them not deforming in a tube mag

Nah these days theyre okay, but its surprisingly recently that they became worth a shit. I would say the first reliable mag fed conventional 12g is the USAS, though going by anecdotes of civilian owners its still picky with ammo. The same is true of the AA12, if you comb through MPS talking points they focus on the lack of need for lubrication, but the quiet part left unsaid is that it needs particular loads and even then is temperamental. Everything before that required special metal shells or was a revolver; other than the S&W AS of which a handful were made and it didn't last long in the CAWS trials, so its ambiguous how trustworthy that thing was. Its notable miculek only fired a single heavily edited mag through it in his recent video, they potentially couldn't get it to run a whole mag without jamming. Regular shotgun hulls deform under spring pressure, and those deformations can snag during feeding and extraction, ergo not reliable. Saigas and Veprs are beyond reproach, but they're post-soviet designs, I don't think they're even 30 years old. Clearly with older designs its a mag issue, but its bizarre that not even H&K could pull it off, and it ended up being retarded slavs who made it work. Those turkshit AR shotguns seem to be okay, I haven't had good experience with them but people seem to like them so it probably varies.

Not any worse than mag fed 54r.
>>
>>65020568
Idk what you mean, PSLs are reliable enough.
>>
>>65020604
So are Saiga 12s.
>>
>giant ass mag for 10 rounds

have at it man
>>
>>65020869
the whole thing is pretty dumb. that's why everyone has used tube mags forever and tubemags work fine for hunting
>muh military
if you need more than a couple shotshells, they should design a new proprietary cartridge that doesn't have a rim
