Would this just be "submarine but worse"?
fuck yamudda
>>65020017Hmmmmmm
>>65020114If there was ever a ship that needed a cheeky face painted on the bow, it was the CSS Virginia.
>>65020017James Bond blew that up.
>>65020168yeah but he also killed the ceo of cnn when he did it so worth it
>>65020017>>65020168>submarine but worse>primary weapon was torpedo but worsepottery
>>65020696
>>65020696>stealth boat>torpedo is the loudest thing in the ocean
>>65020139But anon it already has a face.Take a closer look at the front.
>>65020017Like most prototypes it had serious problems that prevented it from going into mass production, but key elements of the design were incorporated into every ship produced afterwards so it wasn't all bad.
>>65020701At that close range at dusk, there is no way a lookout or even a smoking sailor wouldn't see the ship, stealth or not.
>>65020666Thought it was Rubert Murdoch. >95% of news comes from two evil out of touch boomersFug
>>65021969Tip: Treat the average movie like a play on a stage.
>>65020017barnicles make it very easy to spot, its too hard to clean for the concept
>>65020696It kinda sorta made sense for their specific plan, I think? They wanted to salvage a bunch of nuclear-armed cruise missiles from the ship, so it was important to try and not do any damage to the missile cells and magazines while sinking the ship.
>>65020017I remember seeing that thing for sale at a ship salvage broker's website some years back. IIRC they were asking $60k for it.
>>65022049Except that damage to the ship was irrelevant, because 1stly, the plan was supposed to be that the false flag event would take place before the British Govt could investigate the sinking and determine that it was a false flag. The spanner in the works is that the British Govt was fast enough to send James Bond to investigate the wreck, and thereby discovered the plot.2ndly, whether a chainsaw-torpedo or regular-torpedo was used, the British would be able to discover the plot. They weren't going to look at chainsaw marks on the hull and say "oh yeah an iceberg did this".on both these counts the chainsaw-torpedo is stupid.still, fun movie.
>>65020017>Would this just be "submarine but worse"?Weren’t there a number of potential points to the design? Less water displacement than a submarine, making the ship less trackable using systems such as tsunami buoys. The stealth ships aren’t fully submerged, meaning sounds, vibration, and exhaust can directly dissipate into the air, rather than water, were vibration and noise can travel far. Since thr boat partially travels on the surface, it can have significantly lighter weight construction than a submarine that has yo be able to withstand huge compressive water forces. Significantly lower sonar signature than a submarine, or possibly a large ship. Significantly lower radar signature than a large ship. I would presume the central area under the body would provide excellent cover for departing raiding parties, over standard ship hatches, and returning parties.
>>65021969They were busy looking at the Miggers.
>>65020017The replacement is basically a fighter but on water:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juliet_Marine_Systems_Ghost
man fuck those guys
>>65021969They were honorable men, unlike yugos, so they knew that if something is designated as stealthy they're supposed to ignore it.
>>65023564makes sense, unlike yugos, bongs have actually won wars
>>65022071I shouldn't find it as funny as I do that the film's name was originally 'Tomorrow Never Lies' until someone made a type and decided they liked the typo better.
>>65023782huh, TIL"Tomorrow Never Lies" kind of ties in with the false-flag plot, but what does "Tomorrow Never Dies" even mean?
>>65023782>Made a typeI did not just make a typo trying to write typo.>>65024317I think you can kinda read it as some 'hope of what the future can bring' kinda thing but the reality is they just thought it sounded cool in the same way other word soup Bond titles kinda sound cool.
>>65024323>I did not just make a typo trying to write typono big deal, it's just Muphry's Lawyes, you heard me
>>65022071Regarding 1), the plan for the false flag hinged on getting their hands on some genuine British missiles. To that end, the chainsaw torpedo wasn't just supposed to sink the ship, it also drilled out a hole for their divers to go in and bring out some of those missiles. As for 2), of course the British (and the Chinese, for that matter) would have discovered the plot eventually regardless of how they sunk the ship. You can't hide evidence of deliberately sinking a ship.
>>65024352 (me)>it also drilled out a holeI remember the crew deliberately steering the chainsaw torpedo to a specific but unmentioned location in the ship that was later revealed to be the (nuclear?) missile magazine.
I live near where they built this and have peed on italso, I EDC a .380 auto in case if that matters
>>65020696Presumably those are supposed to all spin, but are gear-like. It looks like they index to eachother. How do they all spin if there's 3 of them?
>>65024555yes, they're interlocking bladesyou can see clips on Youtube, it's clear they built an actual prop, this isn't CGI
>>65020139the more important question is where are you going to get a pair of 3-foot diameter googly eyes in 1862?
>>65024555I have no clue how it's supposed to work in the movie, but that looks like an ordinary rock drill like used for oil or water wells, just movie-fied with extra sharp bits added to it. I doubt they thought about it too much, they just took an industrial tricone roller but and make it look scarier than usual.
>>65024352>>65024357What was with the Brosnan films and weird cutting weapons? Like yeah, let's drag some saw blades underneath a fucking helicopter?
>>65026879>let's drag some saw blades underneath a fucking helicopter? That's actually a real thing.
>>65026884
>>65026884Fuck me running, its real. Still though it was like only 15 ft max length under the helicopter.
>>65026851>they just took an industrial tricone roller but and make it look scarier than usual.Yep. Remember, there's rarely anything truly new and innovative from the prop department. Fancy sci-fi weapons are usually something ordinary dressed up with greebles.
>>65026879Could have been a fetish of one of the writers from the era.
everyone talking about the stupid chainsaw torpedo and the stealth boat when the real top gadget from that movie is the Bond car UGVhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN63LoWs1XU
>>65020017>>65020114If you took the funnel off the Virginia it could slot beneath the undercarriage of the Sea Shadow, it would be lewd, but you'd have a stealth ironclad, that could emerge when needed.
>>65022369One thing that triggers me is there is far too much space inside that ship. There is rarely any room for two people to walk side by side without hitting walls.>>65026919If this film wasn't so mediocre I swear more memes would have been made of this very scene.
>>65026919A friend of mine lives near where they filmed that scene and apparently every time he drives by it with his dad his dad gets all excited and tells him for the billionth time that it's that car park where they filmed James Bond driving a remote control BMW.
>>65030631my dad would do the same
>>65030631Sounds like a common Boomer Dad thing. My dad always mentions the car chase from Bullitt every single fucking time we're in sight of Lombard Street.
>>65030665Miami.
>>65030665>picThe future that should have been.
>>65020017But it looks cool
>>65030665Proof of concept for the hullshape that only did short tours, if it worked, then you start spending the money on how to fit everything you need inside and then have space left over for missiles.
>>65030631>>65030650it's called being old, I do the same myselfenjoy while it lasts
>>65022071The movie explains Bond was deployed because Carver's media empire posted wild expose stories about the sinking/shootdowns before the British and Chinese governments even knew, with details that nobody would've known until after an exhaustive investigation UNLESS CARVER HAD BLOWN THEM UP HIMSELF. The villains literally pulled a 3 day SMO victory announcement on themselves and got Bonded as a result.
>>65026958>could emerge when neededin what timeline is a surprise ironclad ever needed in the 21st?
>>65030636I don't want my kid to miss out on that so I don't do it naturally but I try to RP the traditional dad things. I have no idea what I'm going to do most of the time but the kid thinks I do.Why do I have to know shit about /int/ for captcha?
>>65032583because everyone keeps bitching about how bad the captcha is so the joke is the jannies made them worse. it's like how last year people were pointing out how there are dozens of dead boards like /cgl/ has posts from last year so the jannies >decided to give everyone a lesson by deleting the unused boards
>>65032707NAYRT but damn I forgot what day today is, I genuinely though this was gonna be the real captcha moving forwardI preferred the Covid one, that was hilarious
