Bought a bunch of these for my Beryl. They fit in the rifle after you try and insert them once or twice. After that the rifle has shaved off enough plastic from the top of the mag and they feel better in the hand than the Beryl mag i m o. I also bought four more mags than what I really needed. I wanted to see if the follower from these would work in a 74 bakelite mag. I am happy to report that they not only fit in the mag, the little button for locking into the baseplate also fits on the 74's baseplate. I had no issues loading 30 rounds into the mag either. So for those looking to run 5.56 out of a bakelite mag this is an option for you instead of paying the POD arms douche or having to fiddle around with a 3D printer. I haven't taken it to the range yet but given the ease at loading ll 30 rounds I am thinking it'll be gtg.
Was considering buying an M70 parts kit and then figuring out a way to order the receiver/barrel. There any legal restrictions for parts kits? Also very discreetly but how do you build an AK.
>>65024236>there any legal restrictions for parts kits?Yes, they're gun parts. ITAR covers them being exported from the US, and your country has import laws on firearm components; check those yourself. You most likely couldn't import the bolt as-is because most countries have laws that care about pressure bearing components.>how do you build an AKIf you aren't American, you're probably wasting your time. Sourcing a receiver/barrel is going to be a nightmare, and the tooling to build AKs is a question of "do you have a machine shop available to you?" for the layman.>discretelyYea don't even try it, you don't want to go to prison over an AK parts kit.
>>65024279Well I'm American so I'm halfway there. Also it's completely legal to build your own guns. thx for the info, I'll probably look at some youtube videos or some shid
>>65024214i wish saiga 12g mags were this cheap
>>65024297I wish Saiga 12s had an FRT.
>>65024289If you're American, you should have already been aware that there are no restrictions on gun parts themselves at the federal level, meaning that we can't truly help you unless you would tell us what state you live in because any laws about them are at the state level. That information specifically is easier to get from a google search ime.Tortort is your best option for a milled AK receiver afaik. AKbuilder barrels are fine, Apex barrels are fine (they're the same for AK barrels iirc), milled and stamped M70s used the same pattern barrel. You'd need to get a few fixtures from AKbuilder anyway, it's more money than it's worth unless you plan to do a few.
>>65024321I live in SSR California, but I haven't read anything that says I can't order parts kits to my door. The video I'm watching also recommends various fixtures and what not for building an AK. thanks m8.
>>65024342Didn't CA pass a law recently that nearly all gun parts need a background check? You should probably still look into that. It might just be "must be 21, must sign for package, must sign bullshit legal documents."The fixtures are mostly to align blocks, mark pin holes and install those pins, but you should also get headspace gauges. You'll need a semiauto fcg as well since there will be hammer follow if you use the full auto fcg that the kit comes with.>t. built a Galil, had hammer follow using the in-kit fcg while lazy and impatient waiting on the semi one to come
I have a bunch of AK mags I was gonna sell a guy I know because I don't have an AK but I'm regretting it now because they're surplus and I don't like selling historical surplus.I will keep a couple of the cleaner ones I guess just to have around
>>65024236Not worth it at all for you. You need:>a hydraulic press>drill press >company that will ship a milled receiver to your FFL because 80% milled receivers don't exist anymore >random fixtures, press ram heads and measuring tools like over 1k in total tools even if you can find someone that will ship all the stuff to you, you're still going to have to pay a shit load of money for something that you can just buy for cheaper. The economic issues applies to people in free states too. There really aren't any 80% milled receivers left and I don't think you can reweld them (based on your other posts, not trying to be mean) so this kit isn't even a a good discrete option anyways. If you really do want to try PSA has these for cheaper and with better torch cuts >>65024316one is on the way. >>65024368also this. Some vendors are following it. Some aren't
>>65023051I put a red dot on my Mini Draco. This thing is so fucking fun to shoot. Any ideas on how I can get a light on it?
>>65023051Anyone ever modded an ak so it looks exactly like the one in stalker vidya series? The gas tube cover is sorta weird and I'm pretty sure you can't find it anywhere

>>65026235surely the wood would crack right
>>65024732It wouldn't be hard to do assuming you're fine with it being right-handed instead of game-accurate left-handed.>buy AKS-74 (kit build, Saiga conversion, SLR-104, etc)>strip finish from bolt carrier and leave in the white>Buy green handguards or paint black ones green (the pistol grip is still black on the ingame one)>take a dremel and cut slots in a plastic upper handguard to match the ingame model, sandpaper to smooth>touch up color around cutsThat's all it'd take. You have hands and access to tools, you can figure out how to cut four holes in a thin plastic and make them look good.>>65026268Depends on how heavy a light, how well you mount it to the wood, how strong your particular piece of wood is and how often/how hard you LARP.It's the biggest weakness of wood for furniture; not every piece has the same structural makeup or lines, so your mileage varies greatly between individual pieces.
Do I need to worry about cleaning this off? I don't clean my guns often, especially my ak and this hasn't showed up on my other aks.
>>65027029Here's the booster
>>65027029>>65027034Sorry anon, your AK has AIDS. Best to just get rid of it before it infects your other AKs.
>>65027029>>65027034It's just verdigris (copper oxidation from the jacket material) unless you're shooting corrosive ammo. Just clean it off every so often, but it won't kill you or your gun either if you leave it for now.Soak the booster and muzzle in a solvent for like 1-3 hours and then scrub them; 12ga brush for the booster and a nylon (probably should have use brass) brush for the muzzle worked for me.Just be mindful that your solvent actually dissolves copper (many gun cleaner solvents don't, ymmv), and that it doesn't dissolve whatever finish or paint is on your parts, that'd be bad.
>>65027051Other aks have herpes, everyone knows you can't have 2 things at once>>65027093Thank you sir. I only have clp at the moment and I know that won't cut it. I'll probably get me some hoppes soon, I've read that works as a descent copper solvent.
What's the consensus on Toolcraft AK74 bolts? As far as I'm aware PSA has Toolcraft make their bolts and trunnions, but they are to a proprietary spec and not true ak74 spec. The Carolina Shooters Supply bolts are also toolcraft as far as I know, but they seem to be AK74 spec. Since Beryl bolts use propietary extractor, spring, firing pin and replacements are rarely in stock, would it be better to use a toolcraft AK74 bolt for long term for use of standard ak74 bolt replacement parts, or a proven beryl bolt and hope to find replacement parts here and there?
>>65027871I think it doesn't matter.>option 1you shoot your gun around 5000 rounds over the course of its lifetime, most bolts will be fine>option 2you shoot your gun 10000 rounds a month, you shoot so much it wont matter what the bolt is because they both will need replacing over the course of your use.

Beryl extractor springs are OoS everywhere, and with the import bs I'm not sure they're going to be available in the future. Don't really want to replace the whole bolt if just the ejector spring is bad. But on the other hand, if a shitty bolt breaks a lug after just 10k, then I would prefer a better bolt. Just trying to future proof.

>>65029996I get why people like yugo stuff, it's really got that "made in a tractor factory" feel to it. then again AK users see these beat up refurbished mags >hmmm $14 dollars you say? what a smokin deal!responding to the helpful anon(s) last thread:got a couple of those refurb circle 11 mags. damn they look like shit lmao. functionality seems fine though. they both rocked in fine no filing necessary and they seem to sit more or less parallel like my one so-called "good" yugo mag. filed the PR stamped one and it's a little more parallel, but I don't want to take much more off the lug lest it get too wobbly.NOS yugo extractor and spring came in - damn they seem kinda shit too! Definitely new parts but the extractor itself just didn't seem quite as nicely machined as the original m72 one. The spring was a normal solid wire spring, much longer and easier to compress than the original braided wire one. it held a shell way more loosey goosey so I just stuck with the original parts.got a new ALG recoil spring. I know they are technically "extra strength" which is definitely true compared to my original spring. Will see if that helps with my odd intermittent jamming.
>>65030083>responding to the helpful anon(s) last threadThat's the anon you're replying to (me), funnily enough. They're not cosmetic refurbs, they're function refurbs, like "bent feed lip from a conscript using it as a hammer" type shit. They need to work, not be pretty.Since they work fine, that confirms your other ones are just out of spec. Sucks but it happens sometimes, either sell them or keep on filing, try the front lug if they're angled too far "up" but be careful to not dig into the mag body when you do.>price$14 IS a steal for surp mags that work, the "good" ones cost $20-30 if you can even find them anymore. New plastic mags are a non-starter for a lot of AKfags either because of "muh vibes" or function because AK Pmags suck. Bulgarian ones and the AK12 lookalike ones from Bosnia are good in my experience though.>NOS extractor and springReplacement parts were usually out-of-spec for combloc guns, they're meant to be hand-fit to your specific gun by an armorer.

>>650305475got pic
>>65030547>I wonder how suppressor baffles feel about corrosive ammo
>>65031083NTA but the material does matter as wellLots of newer suppressors use cobalt or titanium alloy baffles in a stainless steel tube, so the body will rot out from the inside while the baffles stay around for a good bit longer. It's nothing a soak in a bucket of water for a minute or two and an air compressor to blow out the water can't fix either way.
>>65031099You're definitely in the right place.Your mom must've been mainlining Extra strength Tylenol.
>>65024600>>65029594>niggerthat esteemed gentleman has a stock on his draco
>>65030136You'll have to bear with me, it's my first AK coming from mostly AR's where mags are good, cheap & plentiful. Kinda funny whiplash seeing that. By "functional" I just mean the followers travel freely and the mags seat well. I need to get out to the range today to see if they actually work. If they do I could care less how they look. My problem with the other yugo mags is it seems like the rear lug is slightly too high, so the mags sit slightly titled down at the front. >meant to be hand fit that makes more sense. I mean it's just a cylinder with a claw so it did drop in but the extractor just has a slightly "unfinished" look. It let me confirm my original extractor isn't broken or missing any bits at least. I was more disappointed with the new spring which had way less tension than the original.
>>65032345All the good AK mags were cheap until about 10 years ago when the end of the Cold War surp market dump finally dried up, they've been bought already. I have a receipt from Apex that shows I bought 10 "good" condition Romanian surp steel mags in 2017 for $7 each. Inflation puts that amount to $9.33 each, so the rest of the price is just in supply/demand.When it comes to "new" ones, there's little reason to make them for the countries that field AKs because they have so many fucking mags in warehouses and armories that work, or it's just cheaper to buy them new from Russia/China, and you can't buy those new mags from Russia/China because of import bans.AR mags were also shit and pricey until the gen 2 pmag and ARs started becoming cheaper in the 2010s.>rear lug is slightly too highThat's usually a "file on the mag catch" situation, but you have other mags that work fine so don't mess with it. I'd sell them to someone else, price around what you paid, maybe -10-20%.

>>65036067That still leaves the "no lubricant" thing up in the air; I don't know of a store of any kind, pawn shop or otherwise, that goes around lubing their inventory, especially their used inventory. He could also just be lying/talking shit, he's asking about the "machining" in a stamped gun that has nearly all of its cyclic "feel" on the receiver rails (that aren't machined).
>>65023051I love Aks, my dad gave me his MAC90, i plan to keep that orginal.I then got a cheap polish AK and put some magpul shit on it. I put around 500 rounds through that one, no issues, shoots pretty damn good for the price i paid plus parts (around $800)
>>65035047I was more confused by a teenager having access to a hand grenade, not the how.
>>65036581I don't want to speak for your father but you may want to consider de-banning the MAK-90. I'd bet he only bought it in that configuration because it could only be sold that way. If you do choose to do this, pay a gunsmith to do the work for you. Consult with them what parts to get.

>>65032751Well, yesterday was the day my range/shooting club officially rolled out a ban of FRT's apparently. Found out halfway thru my range session. Super gay. Otherwise it's a really cool club. But they rent the land from the city and the city's insurance doesn't allow FRT's. I don't know how they even found out that it's a thing but I get it. Maybe we can petition some of the fudds into changing their mind. Anyways So only got halfway thru my function testing yesterday. Polish mags run like a champ! 0 problems with them. ALG recoil spring made it feel way less rowdy, not sure if it fixed the stovepipe jam on the "bad" yugo mags as I didn't get to test them. Yeah feels bad missing out on the whole Soviet block surp era. I was but a young tenderfoot in the early 2000's when all that was still relatively cheap.
>>65024732You’ll need to polish or plate the bolt carrier and reprofile the upper handguard slots if their current shape isn’t accurate enough for your liking.
>>65039709>rolled out a ban of FRT'sRIP, either an unholy fudd/anti alliance or aspiring astrophysicists ruining things for everyone. Probably both. The recoil spring may end up causing even more stovepiping or FTEs from too much force being required to cycle the action (drag on the mag already + stronger spring = more force needed from what was causing stovepiping already), so keep the original spring on hand when you test those mags. It probably won't, but the possibility is there. It's always best to change one variable at a time to know exactly what the problem is, scientific method and so on.>missing outI was 15 when Saigas got banned from import, it's all been downhill since then. I'm glad I got in before the complete end.
>>65037965Nice purchase, That's the newest of the JTS shotguns right? I really wish they would do away with that pattern on the outside of the magazines, that has always bothered me with mine. Is your handguard super slick from the factory too? I have the T1, been trying to figure out a way to add some texture up there without it looking too out of place. Maybe I'll just get a foregrip.
There is a photo floating around of a guy in a leather jacket running around with an AK in what looks to be a bombed out European city. Could anyone post that if they have it handy?
>>65037965>how shortDepends on the brand. You have to do some research. Some shotguns will require you to enlarge the gas ports if you cut them beyond a certain length because it reduces the dwell time and hurts reliability. >>65034569>Is the grainy metal grindy feeling supposed to be there or is the machining just absolute dogshit?Their just not very smooth. All the left over machining marks create friction. I've never had a Romanian gun that didn't feel like that. >>65039334It does seem that 12.5" is popular but I wouldn't just default to that without research. AK shot guns have different gas port styles. Some of them use a single large gas port and some of them have three tiny gas ports bunched together. At lot of people end up doing a trial and error thing where they have to add another gas port or slowly upsize each port one by one until it cycles. You don't want to do that unless you have the ability to press off the gas block.
>>65034698>>65035469M92 is one of my favorite guns of all time

>>65036750pretty common here in europe up till the 90s. We had 4 of them at our "base" as kids that we would use when playing war. When we were 14 we got curious and tried throwing one and it exploded like 5-10 minutes after we had thrown it. Which made us pale as death and silent. We buried them somewhere near a river bank where we used to pick tadpoles
>>65037965>>65040592My Form 1 just came back so I chopped it to 11 inches. Despite being shorter I was still able to tear up my lawn with a magazine of 3-inch birdshot on the max gas setting. Give me a bit and I'll rip the thing apart to take measurements of the gas system. I don't know how much JTS changed the gun between my model and yours but if my dimensions match yours you can reasonable chop yours to a length ≥ 11 inches.
oh also be advised that you won't be able to thread the barrel yourself after cutting unless you have a lathe. The OD of the barrel is too much for the standard M22x0.75 RH threading. The die physically won't fit over the barrel.
>>65056791Ive got a lathe can you actually remove the barrel? otherwise I would probably have to set up a steady rest and fuck up the finish
>>65057043I don't think you can remove the barrel. At least not on the gen 1. It looks to me like the rear sight (which looks impossible to press off once on) sleeves over the barrel pin hole. If you can't access the barrel pin then the barrels not coming outI think you'd have to do pic rel. I repainted mine because the finish sucks anyways
>>65056775looking at yours I kinda wish I went with that model I like the iron sights and would probably rather have a traditional safety than the ambi one thats on itI had planned on getting one of these and ended up getting this model on a whim without looking into it because I had bought a springfield hellion and my ffl only charges once for multiple guns>>65057158I figured that would be what I have to do and use a steady rest where there is too much stickout I haven't even got to shoot mine yet I got some shells in yesterday so I probably will soon

>>65062332It's usually on the payment processor/card gateways being insecureThe end merchant (Gunmag warehouse, Atlantic, etc are end merchants) contracts with a middleman company to handle and secure online transactions. Combine that need with the card companies applying pressure on these processing companies to not do business in the gun market (remember the "we will deny purchases from vendors that sell 'assault weapons'" push a few years back? That) , the list of companies that do this and is willing to work in the gun market is rather low, so it ends up with a lot of companies with bad security being the only option for a lot of retailers.Midway is one of those "too big to not do business with them" companies for the processors/card companies so they don't have nearly as many problems as something like Apex, Atlantic or Gunmag Warehouse.Fwiw, the only gun-related time I've had a card stolen it was from Apex after I bought two M72 kits a decade ago.

>>65062429Thanks for the information. How would you suggest avoiding that in the future? Kinda sucks, because usually LGS don't have the same selection of items and if they do the cost is way higher, which leaves online retailers as the only real option.
>>65062434Also this. The sooner street shitting fucktards are forcibly ejected from every western nation, the better.
>>65062600The only thing we can really do while still using the card system is to use virtual card numbers offered by some banks/card companies; it's better that a number unusable to the thief gets leaked than your actual one that he can use. Check if your provider offers a virtual card service, or shop around for one.The layman's explanation of virtual card numbers is that it's the same idea of a VPN, but for credit/debit card information instead of web traffic to/from your IP. Not a perfect solution, someone who knows what he's doing CAN get the real routing numbers out of a virtual card (like a VPN with your data), but most people buying/with access to transaction data are not that competent, nor are they willing to put in the work to be so (also like a VPN).

>>65066481You are missing the forest for the trees.I brought up the card companies trying to deny purchases as proof of the sentiment being there, not that that is literally how they're doing it. Do you not understand what analogical reasoning is?The card companies absolutely want to deny gun related sales, that's why I brought that up. The law can say whatever it wants, but if the company just says "working with -x merchant- is a brand risk, so don't do it" that's not illegal anymore, it's now "just smart business practices."You and I can both know the real reason behind the decision, but to the letter of the law it's legal. Fuck-fuck games and bad faith bullshit are extremely common with grabbers; if the law says they can't do it, they'll still do it, but change the name and just pretend it's something new. If the law says they can't do -thing A-, they'll do -thing B- instead because the law says nothing about -thing B- even though it's the same in practice.

>>65066613Have you fired that with the AKV bolt? How does it run? If it goes smoothly, that alleviates a lot of spare parts concerns from people buying the import 9mm "AKs"I'd love to see a side-by-side comparison of parts, but I know you don't have the nak9 parts to do so. How does it all fit together, any awful fitment issues or was it close to begin with other than the feed geometry for glock mags?>only time I ever had my shit stolen was when I bought zinc phosphate solution from MG34.comI've bought from Apex before and after the purchase that got my card too (on a different card number after of course), every vendor is a crapshoot on every purchase ime, you just have to hope you don't lose the diceroll that day. My card has only been stolen twice ever, and only one was gun-related (the other was for my college textbooks I bought in person; real quick investigation on that one). There's no consistent "rule," just worse odds of it happening at some vendors.
>>65066653Haven't fired it but I hand cycled it a few hundred times while I was making the ejector. The only issues I've noticed is occasional hammer follow. I'm willing to chalk that up to converted surplus trigger weirdness because both the AKV and NAK9 are purported to have AKM FCG compatibility. I don't have the NAK9 bolt but I was able to find pictures of it online. The main difference between the NAK9 and AKV bolt are the lower bolt face width and how the mass is distributed from front to back. The AKV has a shorter receiver so the bolt is shorter at the rear and has a thicker, longer mock piston to account for the mass. All of its extra mass goes into the space provided by the gas tube. The NAK9 on the other hand has a shorter "piston", and a larger rear extrusion which its allowed to get away with because the NAK9 uses a full length AKM receiver. The NAK9 can use an AKV bolt but not vice versa because of this. If you put the NAK9 bolt into the AKV it would go up and over the rear trunnion to beat the dust cover. >How does it all fit together, any awful fitment issues or was it close to begin with other than the feed geometry for glock magsThe AKV bolt has a MASSIVE ejector clearance slot cut into the bolt face so I had zero difficulty putting my hand made ejector in. I'd bet that any of the other 9mm AK ejectors would fit into the slot. The only thing I had to do to it was grind down the lower bolt face. I don't think you'd have to make aggressive modifications if you were putting this into a KP9 or scorpion mag NAK9 because those are all double feed. Initially I was worried about having to adjust the recoil spring or bolt mass but the AKV bolt has enough mass itself to make it safe to shoot unlike an AR9 where you have to add the buffer weight + spring to the bolt in order to have enough reciprocating mass but that's not the case here. You don't have to rely on the recoil spring to make up for any effective mass which VASTLY simplifies things.

While we're on the topic of chinese cope optics: I bought one of those chinese OKP-7 clones and I've been thinking about ways to "ruggedize" it. The electrical components have what looks like hot glue around them to reduce vibration but the battery compartment isn't waterproof at all so I'll make some out of automotive gasket paper maybe. There's also some play in the emitter so I'll have to put some stronger springs in or do something dumb like knurl/shim the pivot piece so its tighter in the socket.
What saiga 12g drum mag should I get get? 20rnd promag?
There's also the issue of the brightness adjustor sensor. Its a generic light dependent resistor which is fine but its completely unprotected. I know there are optically clear potting compounds specifically for this case but those cost as much as the optic itself. Maybe JB clear weld would work but I don't want it to cloud up or melt the sensor with its solvents.
>>65081923Everything I've seen from personal experience and online comments indicates that the Promag Saiga drums are their only good product, so try one of those first if you can get one local.YMMV on it if you're putting it in a Lynx, JTS12 or whatever Panzer whatever calls their Turkshit clone though. I know they work in Lynx 12s, no personal experience with the other two options. If the Promag ones don't work for you, SGM Tactical still exists and their drums are about the same price as the Promag ones. Be wary of the Turkshit mags.

I've had no problems with my cards there, but I also don't buy frequently and didn't buy from them in the Obama years where so much of the CC compromising seems to have happened at all gun retailers.>>65082855The only metal mags I'm aware of for a Saiga 12 are CSSpecs, they have both 8 and 10 round mags. I know I shouldn’t bother but found a Century built M70AB2. Decent build quality in terms of fitment, rivets and feel is fine. US barrel/ receiver obviously and every single part is non-matching, not even the bolt and carrier match. Looking at wear, I’d say less than 1000 rounds through it, maybe only a few hundred also has an aftermarket drop in CMC single stage trigger.Basically, it’s $700. Worth the risk or forget about it? Didn’t get a chance to check headspace, no gauges at the time and they wouldn’t let me put a round in to roughly check by hand.
>>65084648I don't have a source, but I've read on AK forums (AKFiles and The AK Forum) that those Century yugos were subcontracted out rather than built by Century themselves. Century is known to do this so its not out of left field.
>>65084767I’ve been seeing that and there were at least a couple builders. One is D.C. Industries and apparently their builds are solid and then there’s an unnamed builder, possibly JRA that have well known QC issues especially with headspacing. I’m out of town for work and had a day off so I just cruised around local stores and saw it. Might just make a dude 7.62x39 cartridge myself to check the headspace, I’m sure I can get a good idea from just that, might go for it if it checks out, it’s just $700 and I have a craving for an UF.
>>65084788Not JRA, Two Rivers. Correcting myself.
>>65084788>then there’s an unnamed builderIt's not JRA or Two Rivers. The "unnamed" builder was Velocity Firearms. They're easy to spot, the receivers have no builder name on them they're just marked "Century".
Anyone buy those overpriced partial et-97 goat shed ak kits from rti? disgraceful that's its basically just the trunions and a populated barrel but it a couple people on the ak forums bought em so someone has. I bought the EG kit when they went to 200 myself, and thinking about buying an M70B1 but without chrome lined barrel i am weary of getting btfo rifling
>>65085006No. I kinda wanna to but I have enough projects ATM. RTI says they're based of Nork guns which is cool. RTI also has a bunch of other partial AK kits from Ethiopia like AMDs and such but they look horrible. Pitting so bad its like someone beat them with a hammer. They're all missing the bolt carrier and trunnion too just like the Gafats
>>65084979The markings are like the one on the right, so this Velocity Firearms are the ones who put the one I saw together. Overall, is it worth getting for $700 if the head spacings good? It has century trash polymer furniture but easy replacement.
>>65085099There's only 20 or so left on their website. Cheapest Nork adjacent guns we'll have on the market for a while i reckon, till samsung finally conglomerates the peninsula in a glorious capitalist takeover and the factories up there start churning out aks and daewoos for the US market
>>65085213>is it worth getting for $700 if the head spacings good? They're solid builds, I'd probably roll it for $700 so long as it meets your standards. Check the lockup on the UF too, they do tend to egg out over time. Also the gas block cut off; make sure it's not borked or you'll end up with a single shot rifle.>century trash polymer furnitureThe handguards aren't that bad at all honestly, and I still have the ones that came on my AB2. >>65023051I have the option to buy an Arsenal SLR-107R for $1k. Should I go for it, or would I be retarded in doing so?
>>65086040It's below the going rate for one, I assume it's used? Inspect it if so, look down the barrel, inspect internals for wear, etc. You shouldn't have to worry about headspace, but I would check the other bits just the make sure it isn't a lemon that the current owner is trying to get out from under or rusted out from corrosive ammo.If you want a stamped 7.62x39 fixed stock AK that isn't a WASR, they're fine.
>>65086070Thanks anon. Almost every other mention I've seen on here regarding the 107r calls it a POS, though it couldn't really be that bad, could it?
>>65086105There's rumors that all of the stamped Arsenal rifles made since 2014 (when the fr series rifles went away) were actually made by ISD, who has a rather long history of dogshit AKs hiding behind the "imported" label. Combine that with the 107r rifles clearly being a downgrade in build quality and issues with cracking/premature wear in some serial number lots vs. the older rifles and it's moreso "it's not worth the money vs. a WASR, Zastava or WBP."The paint on the 107r rifles is also notoriously bad, even by Arsenal standards with a lot of accounts of it bubbling due to heat from improper application. If you know nothing about verifying AK quality or they won't let you, I'd shop for a WASR instead. If you know how to verify if the one you're buying is good, I'd take the gamble. If you look at it and it's in the bad serial range (KP57 I think?) or it has internal wear that is either far beyond its claimed round cound or just not "correct" AK wear, walk away.

>>65090460Just wanted to know I guess.I've been lurking here and looking through the buyer's guide, but it's been hard finding something in my poorfag price range, on that list, and easily available anywhere.Saw a pioneer underfolder at one of my LGS yesterday and took a liking to it, but remembered everyone saying they were beyond dogshit so I controlled my impulses. Did some research and apparently, they restructured last year. After seeing Kimber bounce back and sell sub-1.5k 2011s like hotcakes after giving Cohen the boot, I was hopeful that I was seeing another miracle and that Pioneer was also about to have a glow-up. I guess not.
>>65090469The Pioneer "restructuring" was entirely stateside iirc, the only thing that went away was the American import subsidiary part of the company, which then reopened with new staff. Everything I both know and can find says they've got the same problems they used to on "new" rifles. If you're chasing an AK, a WASR/Draco is the bare minimum IMO. The price increase for Romarm guns vs. Pioneer ones is a lot less than the price of a finger replantation surgery. I know "just save up money" is a cop-out answer, but it's the only one in this case. The difference between Kimber and Pioneer is that Kimber actually has the tooling to make good guns, they just cheaped out on production and QC under Cohen's tenure. Pioneer only has an old armory facility, not any of the old tooling, so their only option is cheaping out.
>>65090542Well, that's a crying shame. Century arms it is, then.
>>65062806Does this count? It's a Cugir.
>>65023051fuckin FAGS!!!!!
>>65090608Just make sure it's an import, their US-made products are still pipe bombs. If you don't know how to tell, WASRs don't have magwell dimples (their US made rifles do). Dracos will say "made in Romania" on the right side of the receiver in front of the ejection port.If you're wondering, the 9mm ones aren't made by Romarm (Nova Modul instead), but from everything I know they're fine largely due to the cartridge.
>>65091658I see. Will keep a lookout. Also, from what I've gathered, PSAKs are hot garbage mostly because the bolt and bolt carrier are made of pot metal and wear down super quick along the cam surface. Could I theoretically make it a decent project gun by replacing the bolt/bcg, or are there other factors that make them a non-starter?
>>65091701The older ones had bad metallurgy, newer ones less so (still not milspec but it's not hand grenade tier anymore). PSAKs by this point are tolerable in metallurgy, their assembly is just bad and half-assed. Rivets are too soft (because they use pneumatic presses instead of hydraulic ones), the receivers aren't dimpled with their countersunk trunnions, rivets aren't swell-necked (to fit into the countersunk holes), hand-bent pistons to make up for canted gas blocks. The guy who builds for M13 Industries made a video running over his issues with PSA rifles. He's a bit of a fag, but his experience is in line with my own with a friend's GF5.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ-H7aZ6EoYYou can make one of the 7.62x39 guns into a decent beater rifle by just using proper rivets and dimpling the receiver, which is a lot harder than it sounds if you aren't tooled for AK building. The 5.56 and 5.45 guns are non-starters, PSA sets the headspace incorrectly.
>>65091735>because they use pneumatic presses instead of hydraulic onesEverything else is right but I disagree with this claim. I don't think you can deduce the metal quality based purely upon the riveting method. I've used multiple brands of rivets via bolt cutter jaws, hydraulic press and air hammer and I can't really tell the difference with regard to effort. Obviously, things like shape and installation matter, which you touched upon (for instance IO shooting rivets without a bucking bar) I don't think you should draw conclusions about the rivet material unless you know what kind of steel they were made from.
>>65090093>>65077395Zentico?
>>65092419>woman>kinder eggs>zenitnot one of those things are available here
>>65092402I don't base the quality of the rivets solely on the riveting method, I base it on my own experience drilling them out.PSA rivets require far less effort to drill through than WBP, AK-Builder and surplus rivets in my experience. I probably should have said that earlier, but the 1000 character per post limit prevented me from doing so.The pneumatic press thing is a combination of regurgitation from other people (including that video) and deductive reasoning. By "deductive reasoning" I mean that there aren't enough cracked sidefolder trunnions or receiver deformation around rivets talked about online for me to think they're riveting with the proper amount of force, which also means they're using rivets that are too soft.I swore I saw it stated by PSA somewhere in the past they use pneumatic presses, but I can't find it from a cursory search so it's hearsay unless someone else has it at-hand.

slavic people are scary and their weapons have mongol savage vibe. when i look at an AK, i see something a barbarian horde would use to fight in world of warcraft.

Do you think beat cops and sheriff deputies know what it even is off the top of their head to ask about it?If the answer to any of those questions is "no," you have nothing to be concerned about.Afaik, no end consumer has ever been convicted of a 922(r) violation because of how unenforceable it is on the end user.
