Hang on, this assault rifle has a cylinder gap?
>>65035278Yes.Perk on the telescoping ammunition nobody asked for.
>>65035275It was the coolest concept, and probably the most useful if it worked, but wasn’t the rumor that it kept exploding during the trial?
>>65035275It feels like they added a layer of complexity for the sake of adding complexity. What's the point of the entire chamber as well?
>>65035281I like the telescoped concept and there is no reason you can't have a "rimless" rim like any other cartridge.
>>65035281I prefer my ammo to be erect
>>65035305>What's the point of the entire chamber moving as well?
>>65035281I prefer my ammo to be a innie caged bussy
>>65035278The cylinder gap gets sealed by the case neck, it's like a modern Nagant M1895.
>>65035275wait, can't his mechanism be used to make reliable automatic magazine fed rimless shotguns?>>65035310
>>65035305there's actually less parts than on a conventional design.
>>65035310There is for a rifle, since putting the bullet inside the case reduces the total volume and you need to make up the difference with more pressure. The Textron gun can support even higher pressures than the Sig despite using plastic ammo instead of steel because every part of the case is fully supported by the chamber and there's nowhere for it to go if it were to deform. With an autocannon, diameter doesn't restrict capacity the way it does with a box magazine so it's easier to just make the cartridge bigger to account for the reduced capacity and the volume taken up by the separate case head. Also, having a case head and rear extraction opens you back up to the potential of case head separations and failures to extract, while a big advantage of CT ammo is that it's capable of push through ejection, which eliminates that entire class of failures.
>>65035780No, because the moving chamber relies on the mouth of the case obturating to fill the gap and then returning to its former shape to unlock the chamber. With a shotgun hull, you get the former but not the latter so you would need to add a method to move the chamber rearwards to unlock it from the cylinder. You would also have to only use one length of shell, since one longer than the chamber would jam and one shorter than the chamber wouldn't seal.
