Thoughts on USAF pilots survival gear?
>>
>>65040569
This would have been perfect if it was more of something like an AK74u, but no idea why a downed pilot would need a full length barrel when a carbine or SMG would probably suffice. If you're engaging 4+ targets coming to try and take you alive, I don't think 2 mags of 5.56 is gonna help you out too much.

AK74u is heavier, less accurate, louder, and has pitiful muzzle energy at 100yds, the mags are bulkier and weigh more, how is that better?

A normal AR can be taken down by pushing two pins. Why does a pilot or aircraft crew member, who has experience cleaning/manipulating the AR, need a special mission specific takedown AR?
>>
>>65040755
Ok, and why do you think there are 2 mags even though you can see 4 and the caption says 4?
Can't read and too stupid to count to 4.
>>
>>65041219
Hinging the barrel makes it more compact.
>>
>>65041219
Because some company was given a whole lot of money to design and make an AR that would fit in the jet's ejection seat without messing with any of the other complex systems while also 9o% of the way to being functional. They also don't know what shape the pilot will be in once they land, so making it even easier than "two pins" for the cost of a QD lever was a no brainer. Are you going to piss and moan about the cost of a 12.5" AR vs a 12.5" AR with QD that obly comes i to play once the million dollar jet goes down?

Made in house by the air force armorers. Special parts were simply purchased from commercial sources.

I am actually in shock the US govt made something in house instead of throwing money at DARPA and whoever has the AR contract to deliver the lightest QD lever known to mankind so that the engineers working on the ejection seat didn't have to commit ritual suicide when the chair was now .8 ounces over weight

Are they supposed to fight the whole iran army by themselves? I could understand a gun to survive in the wood, but in this case this just make them armed combatant as far the rule of war goes.
>>
>>65042479
Rules of war aren't real and they would always go to great lengths to capture a pilot alive as they are far more valuable than a grunt

Fair.
>>
>>65040768
It takes mags that the people coming to kill you are carrying.
>>
>>65042901
If you can get close enough to take their mags you can take their rifle too if you really need it, and it'll actually take their mags instead of just hoping you picked right.

Death to all mulattos.
All those brown retarded American shitskins have no right to exist.
>>
>>65040569
If you ask me, the smartest thing to have would be a suppressor. When you're all alone out there, the one thing you cannot allow is to let the enemy get a fix on your location. Suppression may not be outright silencing, but it'll mess with auditory positioning and that's what's important.
>>
>>65043335
Conversely, you're a pilot and getting into a gunfight is probably the last thing you want to do. The purpose of the rifle is more to defend yourself from animals, where you'd want the sound to get them to fuck off even if you missed, while if you're trying to shoot and scoot on foot against someone organized enough that a couple of bullets hitting near them isn't going to make them sit in cover long enough for you to run away, you're already fucked and probably should just accept POW status.

Why didn't they go for a folding rifle instead? It'd be way faster to deploy.
>>
>>65043525
Because it doesn't make a fucking difference and a folding rifle is mechanically more demanding to execute which means increased weight, cost, and complexity.
>>
>>65042296
>no suppressor
Why would you need one?
>no thermal monocular
Why would you need one?
>no NOD
pilots already have night vision goggles

The rifle is only there in case the pilot fails at E&E. You're one dude being hunted down by platoons worth of men trying to find you. The rifle is purely for defense and follows the same logic for why the Army equipped rear echelon guys with M1 carbines instead of pistols during WWII: because pistols are hard. Rifles are easier.

The US military is allergic to them.
>>
>>65043576
I always assumed these were for hunting game rather than trying a last ditch stand against a platoon, which is certain death even against thirdies.
If CSAR is close enough to make standing and fighting worthwhile, they're also close enough to give you far more effective covering fire than you could put down yourself.
>>
>>65041296
Suppressors don't make 5.56mm quiet. But they stop everyone from seeing your muzzle flash. It's very useful when firing from concealment.
>>
>>65043683
You can still see the muzzle flash at night from a suppressor anon.
>>
>>65043805
That depends on the suppressor and angle it's being viewed from.

Suppressor to cut down his signature in the event he does fire for whatever reason. Thermal to better detect and avoid enemies. Why does he need a rifle with 4 mags? We want to maximize their ability to survive and win right?

Imagine being a downed pilot scrabling through the mountains of Iran, and the president's idiot son is making money by inducing morons to gamble on whether you live or die.
Crazy dystopia levels.
>>
>>65040569
Why not just give them like 12 grenades?
They can capture him as he bleeds out over a pile of iranian bodies
>>
>>65043683
There's these devices that have been standard on ARs since the first military acquisition, they are called bird cages or flash hiders
>>
>>65044733
If there has ever been a basic rule of US downed pilots it's that you don't kill them. Its literally been the playbook since we started falling from skies. You rough em up, you might even torture them (not recommended), but you keep them because it's the only real chip that can be used to negotiate with the bombers
>>
Should be something like an MP7 with an aimpoint and a suppressor. Easier to use at close ranges which is the only time a pilot should be shooting.
>>
>>65040569
Fair overall. One thing that came to mind was "why not throw in a T1 micro on a QR mount in there while you're at it" but the utility would probably increase by 10% while it would cause an avalanche of bullshit like periodic zeroing and battery replacements so yeah, just keep it as it is.
>>
>>65044936
It's actually a decent use case for one of the small ACOGs. Or just a standard TA31.
>>
Why hasn't the downed pilot been found yet? Surely they have satellite comms link to his/her location?
>>
>>65040786
Nigger he's got a flight suit on and they have a pretty good idea where he is, he could have dropped with a M45 quad mount and it wouldn't have made a difference.

>>65044943
I figured his long forgotten SERE kicked in and he's hiding. Iran would have gloated if they found him already, dead or alive.
>>
>>65040786
They can build ballistic missiles and develop nuclear weapons and you think they don't know pilots have guns? I'm sure the guy carrying an American military rifle (in a country under extreme Western sanctions) would have blended in perfectly fine if this one Twitter user didn't spill the beans.
>>
>>65044951
How long do pilots' supplies last?
>>
>>65044961
I legit have no idea about today's kit but cold war was supposed to last between 3 days and a week.
