Can't the USAF get the air tractor, put a bigger engine, then larger wings, reinforce the fuselage.
And then put the GAU-8 on it?
The GAU-8 could fire in sync with the propeller.

The GAU-8 is stupid as an aircraft weapon. Its best application was the Goalkeeper CIWS
>>
GAU-8 is like 6 meters long and weighs 4000lbs, it would be incredibly awkward on an aircraft of that size, even if it could technically carry it.

The biggest issue isn't even just raw size/weight, it's recoil and weight distrobution.

You need an airframe that can handle the recoil and rate of fire that sort of gun is going to impart to the aircraft.

This needs: the AEW&C suite off of the MQ9B, and 4 more hardpoints for rocket pods.

Just have it toot out the boot.

>we have STUKA at home
>>
>just slap it in
>just toss it on
>just shove it in
>just put a bigger
>just change it out
Please for the love of god just shut up
>>
I got a better idea just strip the GAU-8 out of every A-10 and put it into every C-130 gunship we can.

Make it like the OV10 but the central pod is redesigned so it can house the pilot, ammunition, and the 30mm. The only scenario where the gun makes any sense on a modern aircraft is when fighting in a COIN environment. Just protect the pilot from small arms fire and it would work beautifully.

Never should have been cancelled the program should be active today, low rate production and unit activition in USAF / USN / USMC. Airframe should have been updated (and perhaps re-engined) continuously.
That's not how post-1950s U.S. mil procurement works though

A lot bigger. There's a reason the A10 (which has 2 turbofans) can only use it in a dive if it wants more than a short burst. If you wanted the same cartridge you'd be better off using a single-barrel, revolver cannon. You'd save weight and have a lot less reverse thrust due to having the lower fire rate.
