How feasible would it be to use a nuke on Iran's underground missile silos, and uranium enrichment sites? This idea has been proposed in the past for targeting the underground sites buried more than 1,000 ft deep.

>1,000 ft deep
Would a nuke even do anything to that?
And aren't there so many you'd need to use a whole bunch?
I just dont see it happening, iran isnt enough of a direct threat anymore to warrant that.

>potential gain
wipe out the nuclear sites for good this time, probably? as long as they haven't moved nuclear material elsewhere?
>potential loss
instant upheaval of the existing nuclear world order
every country with an interest in its own security pursues nuclear weapons
high chances of pissing off every ally the US has right now
massively lowers the threshold for nuclear use for everyone else who has them

Just STOP. It is the foreign policy of the USoA to never EVER use a first strike.

Submarine can dive to that depth and launch the missiles

>every country with an interest in its own security pursues nuclear weapons
Nothing changes, this has been happening since nukes were first used, every minor country just fell on the side of one of the bigger countries pursing nukes

>high chances of pissing off every ally the US has right now
Already happened

>massively lowers the threshold for nuclear use for everyone else who has them
The threshold was always "we're already at war and using nukes is better than a very difficult land invasion that would cost many more lives" Korea was going to involve nukes too but Truman got cold feet

There's ZERO precedence to suggest using nukes defensively to stop an aggressive country from getting nukes would be some dramatic even that would change the world order
