>UV light passes through clouds>Ir works even at night>Modern IRST can peak up a jet flying subsonic at 70+milesWhy hasnt one western power design a passive air defense thst cant be suppresed and could be used to ambush enemy jets yet?>But aircraft are faster andMake the rocket bigger
>>65051297>passive IRSure, making SAMbush network that works on non cloudy days can be viable>passive UVYeah...
>>65051297>>Modern IRST can peak up a jet flying subsonic at 70+milesbecause it needs to be 100x zoomed in to do this and tales that much more time to scan a sector.unlike radar where you can just amp up the power and see everything in the area optics don't work that way. also complicated rangefinding.
Fuck that, why not go full send.GAmma raY Detection And Ranging.GAYDAR if you will.
>>65051345Why would it be complicated? Few cameras point at the same plane and each reports their pitch and yaw to a central computer that then triangulates the jet's position
>>65051629Doesn't everyone have that?
>>65052612Nah, else submarines would be useless.
>>65052366if you think this is reliable, viable or easy to set up you need to get your brains checked
>>65053280It's just a matter of processing power, and its not like you are dealing with a sphere, its a band along the horizon you have to search.
>>65053280I think I could get it set up easy if the goverment paid me about some 500 mils
>>65053286Ok, now start doing the math on how many degrees you can track with what kind of reliability, and therefore how many units you need. Where you need to install them to avoid gaps in coverage. Then figure out how you're going to hide them, because jets are fast and move around a lot. Your AA system is largely static by comparison and trivial to keep tabs on using various forms of ISR. When they start launching stand off munitions (which outrange you) overhead, do you reveal yourself to shoot them down? You will quickly find that the economics of making this happen are extremely unfavorable and you should have just built a good airforce.
>>65054081Daylight good weather detection would be pretty easy actually.https://youtube.com/watch?v=zFiubdrJqqIModern daylight camera pixels have extremely low cost Thermal cameras pixels have like 10000-100000 times more coat though, so might detection would much more expensive.
>>65054174I would add that Ukrianians build similar in principle system to detect Shahed drones. Only it uses acoustic sensors. Now system runs about 15000 networked microphones and covers pretty much entire country. Detects flying lawnmowers day and night and bad weather.
