>>65060693They're call Penny-Farthing Bicycles, and they were like that because chains weren't invented yet, so the drive wheel needed to be huge to give the bike a high enough gear ratio to allow it to travel at high speeds + pneumatic tires also weren't invented yet and most roads also weren't paved yet so the larger wheels also helped to dampen a lot of the road vibration without needing suspension.
