And money isn't a problem, would /k/ turn their body into a weapon or do you prefer to keep your weapons separate? Personally, I wouldn't mind a shotgun arm.

All I can think about seeing this is how much rust and corrosion around the joints would suck
As well as how much dead skin and other gunk from the organic parts would get stuck in between.

It comes from US environment in 80s, when weapons detection in public space was just visual search. May be occasional pat down. "Hidden inside arm blade!" cool right?

From today's POV when metal detectors are everywhere and serious places have x-ray machines it looks totally cringe. Retro future.

datawire or gorilla arms is a good choice, tho

Quick question about CyP:77, does power armor still exist? Or has cybernetic modification completely outstripped the performance of power armor?
>>
>>65054206
Jesus! That's horrible, how do I even protect against tha... oh, it's just bullshit.
>>
>>65057350
Nope, even potential commercial applications like construction use mods instead of external armor. Some mods like the suit David ends up in blur the line a bit since any body part that gets removed can be easily replaced (and probably was already chrome beforehand if we're bing honest) once you're done using it (assuming you can actually survive using the suit). Normal combat gear still exists though (not that it really comes up in gameplay much since you can go around fully stacked while completley naked)
>>
>>65057350
Sort of, they're called linear frames I think and are mainly used in construction.
>>
>>65054206
Getting one of those is sheer batshit insanity. You can actually kill yourself with this during a sleepwalking episode. It's like sleeping with a gun in hand and finger on the trigger.
>>
>>65054407
There is no cyberpsychosis in the GITS universe but they have cyber-Alzheimers in the form of cyber sclerosis.
>>
>>65057350
>Quick question about CyP:77, does power armor still exist?
Sort of. Militech makes combat exoskeletons and they essentially turn you into a walking bipedal Wiesel.
>>
>>65057555
Unless you have a mechanical safety for your weapons you deserve everything that happens to you.
>>

>>
>>65057501
I don’t think you’ve actually played the game as there’s a few Cyberpsychos that are dudes bolted into a external frame of power armor that have driven them insane due to either the hardware itself or the hardware and hardcore street drugs in Universe.
>>
>>65054482
Really the bigger reality is cyberpsychosis isn't really a defined thing. Playing the missions you get the sense it's just regular situations of mental breakdowns but the person in question is a living weapon which fuels more dissociation. Easier to just write it off instead of actually understanding what transpired.
>>
>>65057350
Exosuits exist usually called Linear frames. These can be external or implanted depending. Along with that there are bigger conversions for your body like what Adam Smasher used to have before surviving a nuke but those will probably be limited to military or corpo personnel who can afford the sheer amount of therapy and drugs to keep yourself stable.
>>
>>65058390
Ironically though a full body replacement at once causes less humanity loss than a slow replacement of everything, most likely because you are more psychologically aware of the changes. Not a bad deal all things considered if you can handle it, no need to eat or drink(just need monthly injections to keep your brain good), advanced systems in place for most other functions. You still need to sleep though.
>>
>>65054206
I would first replace the heart (number 1 cause of death today is heart failure), then eyes (-6 miopia), then reinforce the spine (to carry heavier stuff) before installing any weapons in my body
>>
>>65057564
>There is no cyberpsychosis in the GITS universe
Part of the continuous existential crisis that is the major's personality is usually portrayed as a side-effect of her full body conversion.
She's entirely unsure whether she's even human and frequently questions whether there's actually a meat brain inside her shell or whether she's just pure AI/bot.
>>
>>65057350

Cyberpunk completely overlooks that most people wouldn’t want to discard perfectly functional limbs for shit like this, medical complications and all. You can’t even convince a lot of people to get vaccines. The original deus ex had it right where nanoaugs were a huge deal and people who willingly replaced body parts like this were considered weirdo freaks. Then the prequels came and it fucked up everything
>>
>>65054206
I just want to replace an eye with one that has optical zoom, night vision, thermal and picture in picture streaming
i would put electronic scopes on all my guns and stream it to my eye so I could take aimed shot around the corner or from my hip

If I remember right (been years) there was a serial killer who would forcibly stream video direct to his victims eyeball implants while he skinned them alive.
>>
Anyone that willingly cuts into their flesh for anything other than a life saving intervention is an absolute idiot. Medically we're still in the monkeys banging rocks together stage, shit people die under the knife getting their dick extended. Cyberpunk is a cool game but at the end of the day you'll just be an amputee at the whim of whatever company sold your robot arm. We can't integrate it into your body without your immune system constantly fighting it because it's a foreign object. You'll be like a tranny with a stinky infected dilation hole.

Its quite possible for about 3000 ollars to have a quite light (less than 20KG) system that encompasses AI controlled,FLIR, NV defensive and offensive drone swarm commanded tech that can establish a 500M actionable perimiter and a 1KM observation one, that can be activated and deployed automatically and kill the fuck out of any hostile target, or just permently blind them, including e.g opposition drones or a helicopter, while automatically prioritising targets and defending you even if you are injured and you are talking about a 'shotgun arm'?

And yes everything I just described is available NOW to ANYONE with a 130+ IQ and even a passing interest in weapons and technology

Nope. I am good. However, my coworker and I have had this discussion many times. He would want gorilla arms and legs. Basically make him about to gore you with a punch or be a walking forklift. Not me. I would get exactly what V got in the opening bit. Basic Kiroshis with 10x zoom and an adapter on my hand to let me know specific things. We are engine mechanics. Upload all the tech data directly to the Kiroshis. Let me look at an engine and troubleshoot it. Let me look at a bolt and know the torque value, then use the implement in my hand to torque it with a normal wrench. Let my hand be on/off magnetic to pick up small parts or hold stuff better. Let me zoom in 10x to inspect gear teeth and take snapshots to show customers.
In the lore, Kiroshis and the hand scanner thingy are the least invasive and least power-intensive chrome meaning little to no cyberpsychosis or other related ill effects.

I always imagine having weapons limbs implanted into you is something you inflict on someone and not do to yourself. Then again, my personal aesthetic in regards to augmentations and implants has radically shifted over time as it will never make sense to "willingly" become a ward to whomever can pay for your maintenance.

That said, common ones that augment your joints and your back should be fairly commonplace like preparing to get a car because I could see that as something the military would do as part of a benefits package for service.

Cyberpunk doesn't overlook it, it's just that their society by 2077 is like a century past this conversation and is at the point where if you don't have cyberware you're getting totally left behind. Like it's so integrated into society you need implants so you can access your bank account.
>>
>>65054290
There's probably not any organic bits left in that arm. Cyberpunk has essentially perfect synthetic skin.
>>
>>65060885
To add to this anons post, there is in game lore that tells you a good portion of those NPCs you see with cybernetic limbs likely got them because of an accident, and that's all their insurance would cover, because cloned limbs and organs are a thing in the setting. What you are seeing in the game is the futuristic equivalent of someone in a wheelchair because they got shot in the spine during a robbery gone bad.
>>
>>65060993
Society isn’t rife with amputees like this
>>
>>65060885
That’s bullshit. The augs would cause a huge amount of medical issues. Most augmentations don’t have real practical daily use. Your grandma doesn’t want mantis claws or stealth camo
>>
>>65061096
A lot of them would be easily replaced with a pair of augmented reality glasses or devices that don’t require invasive surgery to place hardware that’s obsolete in a few months
>>
>>65061093
I said a good number of them, not all of them, some of them do it for fashion, just like those stupid looking ear gauges and other face piercings you see becoming increasingly common IRL.
>>
>>65061093
Not in real life, no, but in CP2077 it is, because Night City is an independent city state where corpos can ignore a lot of safety laws that exist IRL to prevent mass gimpification.

That's top end stuff for the real freak mercs, most people just have simple shit like optics, neural implants, links for interfacing with systems/machinery. By 2077 cyberware is stated to be as common as tattoos or jewelry, and most working class people have at least 2-3 pieces of cyberware.
>>
>>65061142
Shadowrun is similar where it's noted that some implants have been around long enough that some people get them as 18th birthday presents, even if there's nothing wrong with the organ(s) the implant is replacing. Cyber eye replacement being the most common.
>>

Night City isn't based on LA, it's actually based on Carmel-by-the-Sea. The implication is that the climate became so fucked up by the year 2077 that the Central California Coast is now a desert and major settlements moved northward turning a once peaceful suburban beach town into a Neon hellscape

>>
>>65063305
Maybe? I assumed he was talking about Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. Dub watching illiterates always refer to her by her title even though she's usually called by name in the cartoon. I think it's because they assumed that the kind of people who watch dubs wouldn't be able to figure out who's being addressed when some characters call her by her personal name, others by her family name, and others by her title, so they just used the title since it's applicable in the most contexts.

Between 1986 and 2026 I watched my little city go from 98% caucasian to at least half the kids I see being mixed race. Mixed race dating/marriage went from rare to normal. It's incredibly common to see white grandparents out with their mulatto grandkids. This is in the middle of the US out in farm country in an extremely red state. That was in 40 years. 2077 is 51 years away. The only "pure" whites will probably only be Mormon by then.

this would be the mystery meat, CaucAfroLatAsian-American and 3/128ths Navajo
Basically just take every ethnicity in southern california, assign them a random value between 0.25-25% and that's your average cyberpunk NPC
They definitely also put thought into some of the more distinct cultures, there's a video of Mike Pondsmith talking about how the Voodoo Boys in 2077 are mostly Hatian/Dominican immigrants. The USSR still exists too, so there are a lot of Russian speakers as well. Also they game was made by a bunch of Polish-ass Polish people.

Hmm, the Kiroshis cost 20k eddies from Vic don't they? Though that's also the ballistic coprocessor as well I think.

Random food costs $5-$20 I think so the price seems to be roughly in line with current era prices. That would make Kiroshis the price of a car, roughly which checks out from the price of cars in-game too.

>I mean there's even a crippled gang member in a wheelchair selling used clothes, are chrome prices for limbs really high but kiroshi is cheaper?
Didn't he get the chrome before he was crippled but then the tygers threw him out?
Gangers probably get used chrome from people who can't pay their debts half the time.

Arasaka straight up installs corporate chrome that they continue to own and brick when you're fired.

>basic kiroshi at tier 5 is 16K, wonder what % of population uses kiroshi
They're a status symbol but not a ridiculous one, probably a bit more exclusive than the latest iphone. I think in general, a middle-class group of people would only maybe have one person with kiroshis because there's dialogue where people react to someone having kiroshis and Vic makes a big deal out of it when you first get them.
The implication is that until the big job, V hasn't been able to chip that kind of chrome. Actually you have to bend over backwards to even afford it when you get it.

The fusion between metal and meat isn't happening until we completely master both.
We master metal, but we are barely beyond cavemen-tier in contrast when it comes to meat.
Synthetic organs have to happen first. Synthetic blood, synthetic skin. Regrown organs and lab-vat meat. Remove your eyes and replace them with sharper ones. Remove your lungs and replace them with better ones. Remove your bones and replace them with stronger ones.

Only through mastery of meat do we transcend the meat.

I always assumed it was more about a loss of humanity. Like "see the ballistic trajectory of things" probably means your eyes are fake and/or some shit was done to the neural connection between your eyes and your brain. And "lifting heavy shit" would be a complete replacement of your arms.
Someone who goes too far augmenting themselves eventually becomes essentially a brain in a mech.

I think, canonically, it's a mix of dissociation due to becoming so inhuman and cybernetics exacerbating pre-existing mental health issues. There are people who go complete cyborg, but manage to keep it together.
>>
>>65066803
yeah the main undercurrent is that they're just regular psychos who just happen to have sword arms and double jumps and super speed so it's really easy for them to lose it and go on killing sprees
>>
>>65066803
>canonically, it's a mix of dissociation due to becoming so inhuman
watsonian answer: no "mix" about it, it is outright due to the callousness and apathy one acquires for o.g. flesh and blood, since "meh I can just buy a new model organ / limb".
doylist answer: it was always just a mechanic to limit the augmetns that Cyberpunk RPG players could buy

I like the way in Rifts.
Everyone has their mental body image. The farther you stray from that image the more you have mental issues adjusting. A full body cyborg is mostly stable as long as they are still "human".
The few that have completely non human bodies are walking arsenals devoted to protecting their people. The sense of duty and family keeps them sane.
>>
>>65066876
>The few that have completely non human bodies are walking arsenals devoted to protecting their people. The sense of duty and family keeps them sane
that's like having your cake and eating it too; the whole point is that the lack of body eventually creates apathy and PTSD

oh yeah, this is the real source of PTSD that all the psychs don't talk about, because it points at civilians being the problem rather than soldiers: a lot of soldiers came back, saw the petty bullshit that civvys squabble over, saw how society wastes most of its resources on consumerist bullshit, and went off the rails because "this is what we fought for?! this is what they prioritised instead of our war?!"
fighting for family sounded good until they came back and their families were breaking themselves up over sex and drugs and rock n roll
>>
>>65066893
Counterpoint: those soldiers had a sense of duty and family in the service that was missing at home.
>>
>>65066912
>counterpoint
in addition, I'll add that soldiers tend to be drawn from the lowest rungs of society, so they're not devoid of bad personal habits and life choices themselves
>such as joining the army

but I'm just highlighting an important contributory factor to PTSD that is pretty much memoryholed in civvy discourse of PTSD

>also I subscribe to an Onlyfans whore whose dad is some full bird or something and I'm just wondering what his thoughts ae on his baby girl's chosen profession
>>
>>65066876
I remember the warlords of russia book outright states that the full body borgs don't roll for insanity because their society has a much different view of them than most areas of the planet. They see them as heroes that are sacrificing everything to protect the common man from the horrible monsters that infest the post apocalypse earth of the setting.
>>
>>65066876

>Everyone has their mental body image. The farther you stray from that image the more you have mental issues adjusting.

>>65067179
This is literally already what they experience.
>>
>>65065198
>ok so what kind of technological advancement do we need irl to get prosthetics like in cyberpunk?
We have no decent way to graft metal on to meat.
We need some sort of intermediary material that means that there's no skin under the metal/plastic (because it would get gross and infected) and no way for the outside environment to get in between the metal and the skin. I think we need something like a bioplastic that goes under the skin and the skin regrows into it and mates with it at the interface. It's a hard problem.

You need neural control of shit and that's barely a functional lab project. Heard anything about neuralink lately?
You need biocompatible materials to prevent rejection but also new antibiotics for the gaping wounds you're carving into people and they've got to be super antibiotics that nothing can become resistant to.
You also need rapid/instant healing, otherwise a new piece of cyberware means three months of stitches and shit and if you've ever had a plate inserted or a hip replacement or something, you know it basically puts your life on hold for months.

>sensory feedback?
That's a huge thing, nobody wants a Mr Stud if you don't feel literally everything.

>maybe batteries?
Power density/generation is one but it's arguably one of the smallest problems. Technically, you could have a cyberarm with a better 18650 that you eject and replace when it ceases holding enough charge.
Those diamond lithium wafer batteries or whatever, just make it a replaceable component. Otherwise, you have to make the cyberware be able to run on glucose or ATP and that's probably a harder task.

Enough to go on with?
>>

When you have a mantis blade, everything looks like it needs to be stabbed.

>>65066803
>I think, canonically, it's a mix of dissociation due to becoming so inhuman and cybernetics exacerbating pre-existing mental health issues
The mantis blades specifically are said to have had a software issue that caused glitches in the neocortex.
The brain-machine interface could absolutely be a source of cyberpsychosis when it goes awry.
>>
>>65068086
Don't forget the structural upgrades that would be needed to stitch 20-50lbs of metal onto a skeleton that's evolved for attaching to 5-10lbs of meat. Having a gun arm is super cool until you fire it for the first time and the recoil physically rips it from your shoulder (which you're kind of OK with since the weight meant your shoulder blades were near-vertical when walking anyways).
>>
>>65067179
>how would trans people live in that setting
They're fine.
Maybe they have a cyberdick/pussy rather than a vat grown graft or genehacked regrown version but it's seamless as far as they're concerned.

Arguably, this is shaping their body to their self-image but with good options for reversing it afterwards.
Hormonal systems can be controlled by cyberware too.
>>
>>65068137
>Don't forget the structural upgrades that would be needed to stitch 20-50lbs of metal onto a skeleton that's evolved for attaching to 5-10lbs of meat
Yeah, you're not mounting a gun without also reinforcing a bunch of the skeletal and muscular system.
In the ttrpg, they approximate some requirements like that but it's piecemeal.

RIFTS may not be the greatest system, but the world building that went into it is pretty good. Another fun fact about that Russia book is that each of the titular warlords has their own full body conversion models they use. My favorite was the one that looked like a mechanical angel.
>>

It's funny when you recognize that IRL, the Republicans and the Russian government could bond over their mistreatment of vets any day and the general russian population considers soldiers to be the biggest possible suckers their society can produce.

Well in RIFTS the world has gone through multiple invasions by literal giant fuckoff demon armies. Demons from literal Hell(or something close enough that we can't tell the difference)are coming to rape our skulls is a legitimate concern for the average citizen. Such a change in world state would probably also shift opinions of soldiers as well.
