I've decided to get a pump 20 for small game. I wanted an over-under but I had to make a choice between one nice Browning or a dozen other things I need to take care of. Should I get an Ithaca Model 37 or Benelli Nova? I'm not seeing much difference besides the aesthetic and some function specifics

Nova is going to have better resistance to the elements such as water/dirt/etc. It also has a super smooth rotating bolt and the longer forend gives you many different places to hold/rack. 37 is a classic design that has been used for a long time, but on the whole isn't going to be as advanced.

Have you held/finger fucked/shouldered both yet? Even if you compare a 12ga version of both to each other it'll help you figure out which one you'd be happier with.

I'd fingerfuck one of each, particularly if the dealer has some snap caps you can try loading/cycling through. Be they 12ga, 20ga or even 16ga just get your hands on them and get an idea of what you are buying.

Thanks for the affirmation. An old 870 caught my eye first, but if I ever want a home defense gun I'll keep an eye out for the short 12 Nova
