I bought this wen rotating whetsone 2 days ago to sharpen my straight razers but the stone that came with it was 220 grit which was to abrasive to make a sharp edge so i pussed out and bout a 150$ 3000 grit whetstone wheel and so far it has been making my straight razors incredibly sharp. I highly recommend the setup, but 220 grit is just goo coarse for a straight razor so i recommend splurging on a 3000 grit whetstone.
I havent even tried finishing up on my 8000 grit norton flatstone or my 12000 grit naniwa flatstone. So maybe tge best is yet to come for my little straight razor.

Sorry for the typos. Im drunk as fuck

Wet grinders run slow, right? I have a belt sander, which costs a lot less in consumables

Apology not accepted. I want to beat your ass

So you did manage with 3000 grit. Missed your previous thread, did you practise on something before going for razors?

Op here. The wen whetsone wheel i bought rotates at about 60-90 rpm which is pretty slow but its the perfect speed for sharpening. I think its safer to use an actual waterdipping whetstone wheel than a dry grinder. Using a grinder can fuck up the temper of the metal in your blade and then its proper fucked. Its also kind of cool how the water sort of trickles down the wheel as it spins through the water tray. And If you grind in the right direction the water doesnt even splatter. It just filters down back into the water tray. I payed 140$ for the wen and even tho the 3000grit whetstone wheel cost more than the whole wen sharpener, its kind of mandatory bc the 220 grit wheel that comes with the wen just shreds the shit out of your edge in like 5 seconds. The 3000grit wheel is getting my edges much sharper than the 220 and has a bigger margin for error. Its still fast compared to a flat whetstone but i welcome the extra time needed on the 3000grit wheel bc its easier to get right. The 220 wheel was like obliterating the edge before i could even get the whole length of the razor exposed to it.

Ive got a 4000/8000 norton flatstone and a 12000 naniwa which im excited to try out to see if they are good at putting the finishing touch on my razors after i reset them on my wen.

Kek. I like your sense of humor fren.

Both the 220 grit wheel that comes with the wen and the bucktool 3000grit wheel i bought have the same 1/2” arbor hole in the middle. There is some misinformation i came across saying they have different diameter arbors but its not true. The 3000grit wheel actually rotates with less wobble than the oem 220 grit wheel. Idk if thats just luck or if the bucktool 3000grit wheel is made to finer tolerances. I would sell the 220 grit wheel if i could but idk who the fuck would want it. Its just way too abrasive for a rotating wheel whetstone.

I have a bunch of cheap gold dollar straight razors so i didnt practice. I think the 220grit oem wheel might be good for heavy tools and chisels but its too rough for straight razors. If you are interested check out aliexpress they are selling them for 140$ but shipping takes a while from china. I wouldve bought a tormek but they cost like 700$ and the wen is almost as good.

there's french text on it, so unless you live in canada, it was made with metric in mind, just printed half inch for conveniences sake
also 12.7mmx99 is .50 bmg

>Wet grinders run slow, right?
Depends on which ones you are asking about. Some run just as fast as a dry grinder, but the one OP has is very slow. It's specifically a knockoff of a Tormek sharpener.

>The 3000grit wheel actually rotates with less wobble
You're supposed to dress grinding wheels after installing them. This removes any "wobble" before you use them. There's various tools for this. Picrel is common though I don't know how well it works on slow speed wheels.

great time to sharpen things
>>
>>65064175
I've used both originals and knockoffs. If you're sharpening freehand then the knockoffs are fine. The reason to get a real Tormek is if you intend to use the various guides and jigs you can get for it. The real problem with the knockoffs, IME, is that the guides aren't straight/square, they don't slide freely, and they have a lot of slop.

Hit that bitch with the 12000

It's made to market in Quebec, regardless of where op lives, you presumptuous know-it-all faggot.

Since you're going to keep making these threads anon, consider this: 100 years ago, most men in the developed world shaved with straight razors and kept them sharp on a day to day basis. How did they manage?
>hint: it wasn't with chinese grinders
>>
>>65065277
The old thread expired. Why you have a problem with ppl making a new thread to continue the discussion?
>>
>>65065241
Sharpening isnt that dangerous. I would pass up sharpening if i was completely shitfaced but there really isnt much danger sharpening when you are moderately drunk. Maybe some ppls drunken coordination devolves towards sober woman level, but not me.
>>
>>65064201
Op here, i can at least tell you that both wheels mount exactly the same and there is no gap between the arbor hole and the shaft. So i dont think there is a difference in the hole/arbor size of the oem wen 220 wheel and the bucktool 3000 wheel. They both fit exactly the same onto the shaft.
>>
>>65065239
How the fuck do these things work?
>>
>>65065244
The Wen is a pretty good knockoff tho. I mean for 140$ you could buy 5 for yhe price of a tormek. I will admit the 220 grit wheel that came with the wen was a bit uneven at the grinding surface and it wasnt quite symmetrical. The bucktool 3000 grit wheel i bought was perfect tho. No flattening necessary.

If price was no factor i would have bought a tormek but the wen is a damn good product for 140$ device with a150$ aftermarket wheel.
>>
>>65065245
It would leave a mark. Id get in trouble.
>>
>>65066284
Chinese whetstone grinders are more fun than whatever they did 100 years ago tho. And they almost surely work better. I bet the tug from 1920s razors on beard hair was awful.

NTA, but to summarize the problems thus far...
>not weapon related
>no new information
>blogposting from a sperg that can't figure out how to sharpen one of the easiest things in the world to sharpen, likely because he bought cheap chinese junk that wasn't straight from the factory
There is no discussion. It's simply you demonstrating your ignorance to the world and ignoring any attempts to help you. Case in point:

>>65064154
I think you'll do great with knives but razors? You need wheel time for practice. Use traditional sharpeners, you'll actually get better results.
