I think a dark take on Inspector Gadget could be pretty cool. Perhaps he gets addicted to cyberization, starting out like a too-good-to-be-true super-officer who starts to go rogue and criminal because the only thing he feels anymore is the surgery. At some point in the movie Gadget goes nuts and kills the dog, symbolizing the total loss of his humanity. The climax of the film would be Penny being forced to kill him. You know how in that movie they are constantly ratcheting up the tension between Christian Bale and the black dude, leading the audience to expect some big climactic fight scene, but actually the fight is over in seconds? Do the same thing here. Set up a confrontation between Gadget and some bad guy that you've been building up to for the whole film. Have the audience expect a drawn-out even fight, but instead Gadget snaps, goes ultra brutal, and completely obliterates the bad guy, ending it in just seconds....with a lot of collateral damage, including the dog.
