Why does everybody make fun of me for owning a Glock 17?
>>
>>65072987
The guy at the gun store tried to get me to buy the Glock 45 but I carry the 47 for work and the 17 with no frills is just a good solid tank

Seriously keep it stock don’t do this with your 17
>>
>>65072987
Because it's the kind of gun you end up with if you walk into a gun store and say "Hi, I'd like to buy a gun."
>>
>>65073027
I said that and walked out with USP even though the guy tried to sell me a glock (43).
>>
>>65073027
That's because it's a good gun.
>noooo you have to choose something else to be le different and special
No, just get what works. No one's gonna regret buying a G17.
>>
>>65072987
It is a very NPC tier gun to choose, although that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just like a Toyota Camry, it is what you get if you don't know what to get because it is the simple and safe option.

If you just see guns as a tool however, that is perfectly fine.
>>
>>65072987
The vast majority of the civilian arms market is built off of hipsterism. If people only bought mainstream safe options and disregarded memeshit, the whole thing would come tumbling down. So in that sense, you owning a plain glock is like one of the 4 horsemen, its an existential threat to faggot elitists and instagram clout chasers.

Because glock is the turn off brain choice that every gun store will sell you on.
>>
>>65073009
That definitely looks like an ugly piece of shit, but I think you could get away with just a flared magwell and a light.

Theyre just jealous that no quantity of firearms is a substitute for a personality.
>>
>>65072987
It’s fine I like my 26. Once you buy your first gun the mystique of firearms wear off and you realize it’s merely a utilitarian tool for self defense.

Because it's viewed as an uninspired, boring choice by cock gobbling faggots, who think every weapon needs to be a replacement for a personality.
Are there better guns? Yes. Are there prettier guns? Also yes.
Is the glock brand glock a simple and reliable design that just werks? Yes.
The glock brand glock just werks.

It's an ok pistol. Lots of far better options available today, however.

do american police really just mag dump while driving? most countries they even discourage shooting at a moving vehicle unless there's an extreme threat to human life because of the risk of bystander casualties
>>
>>65073483

This is typically beyond any practice recommended by police departments. This mfer must have been playing GTA
>>
>>65073534
I mean whenever I see something about a police shooting in other countries it's like, 2 shots were fired and the cop has to fill out paperwork for a year to account for the used ammunition

then camera pans to america and like there's a jaywalker and 7 cops responded and fired over 600 rounds, 1 of which hit the suspect, 10 of which hit other cops, and 40 of which hit bystanders and if a reporter asks why that was necessary the head of the police union starts foaming at the mouth and screaming about how the police are the only thing standing between decent people and total anarchy
>>
>>65072987
Mostly because it's an extremely common choice and is therefore boring. It's like having plain white bread for breakfast. Really? No flavor?
>>
>>65073472
Damn bro that is noice. Main character-tier even. Do you have any reliability problem with your 17L.5 ? People say mean stuff about it online, I mean even loyal glockfags.
>>
>>65073590
The only issue I ran into in was some known underpowered handloads. It's eaten everything else without an issue. The frankenglock is a Lovecraftian horror of tolerance stacking and got put together recently, haven't shot it yet but the fact it sometimes doesn't go into battery feeding snapcaps does not inspire confidence. That was kind of an intentional choice, I want to see how few OEM parts I can put it one and make it run reliably.

>>
>>65073483
i remember watching those made-for-TV police bodycam commentaries, and one of them was a jogger with a draco just indiscriminately shooting at police during a car chase while police pursued; and it got to a point where they were advised to end the chase by any means, i.e. firing from their patrol vehicles while driving and with whatever weapons they had (and which they did, eventually killing the suspect when he crashed into a gas station.) so I suppose if a suspect is causing enough damage, police can be advised to aggressively take someone down regardless of potential damage to civilian infastructure/life. unsure how that decision gets weighed against deploying SWAT.
>>
>>65075611
>weighed against deploying SWAT.
Weighed agaist the 48 minutes it takes swat to gear up and the 1.2hrs it takes to get there. Unless it's in Uvalde and they get there in under 30 minutes and just watch kids getting shot for 2 hrs.

Who makes a good, plain 34-length slide?

Are stock glocks just no fun to shoot or why do all these rice rocket glocks exist, like if the internet is to be believed 90% of californians are carrying around a full auto glock they printed in their basement

Like are they just completely unsatisfying, like the way a toyota is?

If you have the money and interest wouldn't you want to make your gun easier to aim and shoot? Wouldn't you want to brag about it like people do modified cars?
>is a stock glock boring to shoot
No, but if you can improve it why wouldn't you? Unless you're doing something like strictly production irons competition there's no reason not to.
>but the fundamentals, what would you do without all the upgrades, etc
Aside from optics failing (you did co-witness your irons right?) there's no downside of installing a better trigger and reducing return to target time. Once you're a good shot then you start working on irons only, or long crappy trigger pulls, or controlling recoil without assistance.
>but the old ways
Cars used to come without power steering, ABS, electronic engine control, seat belts, or electric starters. Nobody complains that this isn't done anymore. If you want to fine, go ahead, there are some really cool cars out there. But you're not going to daily one.

>why do all these rice rocket glocks exist
Modding shit is its own hobby, and Glocks happen to be really easy to work on. It's like asking why gearheads fuck with their cars, why some people mod their computers, etc. And honestly, just like when 90's kids were ricing out their parents old Honda, most of the people involved:
a) don't know what they are doing
b) are buying crap tier parts that are less reliable than OEM just for the looks
c) whether they realize it or not, are just into the bling.
You see this all the time in online discussion. People will say "I just bought X gun, what should I get for it". That is a consooomer mindset, not someone actually trying to solve a problem. The people who are actually solving problems start by defining what the problem is, and then asking for input about that specific issue. For example: "I want to shoot hardcast 10mm but I'm having a lot of fouling in my factory barrel, anyone know of one that handles unjacketed bullets better". Or, "I'm a sperg and I hate the trigger dingus, can anyone rec a trigger that has no dingus or maybe a wider one that doesn't bother me as much".
>>
>>65076773
Most Glock mods don't actually make the gun any easier to shoot. They just look different. I'd argue that many of them make the gun harder to shoot because there's a lot of airsoft tier chinesium shit out there that's out of spec.

>Cars
Cars are a great example how tech follows a curve, a lot like guns. Early cars were pieces of shit. Unreliable, slow, no safety features, difficult to operate. They got a lot better with time. We got legit safety features like anti-lock brakes, fuel injection, power steering. Cars got safer with crumple zones and air bags. But now things are bad in another way. Cars spy on us. Their traction-control systems freak out and put perfectly functional 4x4's into limp mode because the programming gets confused by sand. A minor fender-bender might set off $10,000 worth of airbags. A side-mirror costs $5k to replace because it has so many sensors in it. People can hack your car via the computer network in its headlights. But back to car *modding*. Most car mods are poorly installed by amateurs. Few have legit, measurable, benefits. For every well-executed car project you see on social media or the cover of a magazine there's a thousand fuckups and oopses. And nobody is telling you about all the hidden catches and gotchas about the supposed success stories. There's a reason why Toyota never put that magic extreme air cleaner in their car from the factory.
>>
>>65072987
Should've bought the 17c, the limpwrist proof version.
>>
>>65076834
You have to be an incredibly poorly trained faggot to limpwrist hard enough to induce a stoppage. I've watched a tiny, rail thin woman that starts to shake when she picks up a gallon of milk shoot glocks without issue.
>but all the police videos
I stand by my statement.
>>
>>65072987
>Why does everybody make fun of me for owning the standard that all modern firearms are judged by?
Why do you care what others think of your firearm purchases? It's a fantastic home defense and duty pistol. Hell, you could even CCW the damn thing, and if it works for you, then who gives a shit?
>>65073271
>The glock brand glock just werks.
Gunsoomers hate this one neat trick.
