So are we good with gun threads again? Seems like for a while there a gun thread would make /k/ very angery but I see several new ones today and the reactions have been calm for the most part

Is the hormuz shit behind us? Can we ACTUALLY talk about guns on /k/?

Okay how about a better question.

ARE Glocks a Budget gun?
>>
>>65073504
not anymore. They're routinely 650 for a new Gen6 one now, i believe.
obviously, in my opinion, you should always just find a good condition used one. Let's face it, these are guns. Not baby seats, beds, or water containers. They will clean up and function 100% normally as long as the previous owner didn't destroy it.
>>
>>65073510

Used, yes
I bought my Gen 5 for what is basically pennies here in Eurostan with a spare barrel (still ripoff prices for you I reckon), it having had 10k rds through it, the barrels respectively 7k and 3k but these things should be able to last for like 60k, right?

It’s probably the best gun if you want to own a firearm and be done with it
>>
>>65073518
Anything with a hammer that doesn't require you to pull the trigger to disassemble. Anything that doesn't immediately jam if you don't read it a bed time story and hold it's hand every day. Anything that doesn't look like a brick. Anything without a safety that's built into the fucking firing mechanism so that if it gets pulled on it's not inherently unsafe. Anything that isn't also made by people that sell horse semen as their other primary product. Anything that doesn't jam a serial number on every goddamn part. Anything that isn't overpriced for what it is because its target audience is government procurement officers.

Unironically brand new Glock clones or others that have very similar characteristics with more features out of the box for less money. Dagger, RMX
>>
>>65073504
It's not even really a budget gun. In today's market that's around the $300 price point which you don't see Glocks selling at unless it's heavily used or a PD trade in an undesirable caliber.

I think they are more like the Toyota of the gun world. Well trusted and not expensive per se, but priced way higher than they should be because Glock can due to a significant community of people who refuse to trust anything else.

anon. Guess it's poverty tier?
>>
>>65075337
There isn't a universal consensus on this, to some people any gun costing less than $10000 is pathetic.

For most of us who don't earn a million dollars every night in our sleep, $500 is a decent amount of money. This is especially true now that budget guns have seriously been stepping up their game and you can get all manner of decent stuff well under $500. Of course inflation has done damage, but by en large guns have bucked the trend. Good ones are cheaper than ever.

If you are a serious shooter then of course it makes sense to get something nicer than a PSA-15, Maverick 88 and Canik TP9 but to use those 3 as an example they are string sellers for a reason. They deliver the goods.
>>
Getting some stuff, and I want to go ahead and grab a recoil spring to reduce recoil a bit for regular 45. $9, why not?
Factory spring for M&P is 16 lbs. What should I get? 18? 20? No suppressor or anything. Strongest spring that will reliably cycle boring range ammo.

>>
>>65075354
I feel a bit of a LARP coming on but I just have to share it.

>$200 or less
You are absolutely broke working paycheck to paycheck and every single dollar absolutely matters. You probably live in a shitty area and need a gun for protection, or out on some really remote land and need a gun to deal with pests/hunt for food but you can only afford the absolute cheapest possible option.

A Hi-Point or a $99 Turk shotgun aren't much, and there are a lot of severe limitations on what they can do but it really is either that or nothing. You literally can't afford the $50-100 difference to get something better and also afford the gas for your hooptie to get to work for the next week, but at the same time you can't hold off getting anything because it's only a matter of time until you get ganked for what little you do have.

Nobody should be buying guns in this category if they can afford better unless they are just messing around and buying junk with disposable income for the lulz.
>$200-400
You are either doing ok on a tight budget or you are poor, but not desperate. You need a budget gun, or just can't justify spending more than is necessary to get something good enough for basic protection and the occasional range trip. This would be a Mossberg shotgun, a Canik, Taurus G3. Stuff people who are serious shooters look down on, but honestly isn't terrible and gets the job done. You could even build a basic AR-15.

Nothing you have is impressive, perhaps you drive a high mileage older car in good condition to a miserable job paying at least some money. Things aren't great, but they could be much worse.
>$400-600
Things are going pretty average. You work an ok job, manage a reasonable credit line and things aren't desperate by any means. You can afford a perfectly adequate handgun, such as a Glock, Beretta or a Sig. Really whatever a cop would carry. This amount of money wouldn't be missed in the budget, so there's no sense cutting corners.

>>
>>65075633

>>
>>65075620
Well yeah for instance comparing a Hi-Point C9 to a Taurus G3C, the G3 is going to be massively superior. It uses a tilting barrel recoil operated locking system which is much easier to shoot than straight blowback, the slide is actually made of steel instead of cast Zinc alloy, the frame is injection molded polymer with ergonomic stippling instead of just two clamshells friction welded together, the magazine holds 12 rounds instead of 8, it is far smaller/lighter, there is a firing pin block and trigger safety plus a frame mounted manual safety if desired that actually works.

The G3C is still a compromise because it has a stainless steel barrel that's cheaper to manufacture at the expense of service life. It also has cheap shitty rollpins and is made in Brazil with hit or miss quality control. The factory magazines also tend to not be the best quality or reliability, although much better quality Mec-Gar magazines are available.

For a poorfag a Taurus G3 is an amazing option and it is affordable at around ~$250, but a Hi-Point C9 for all it's flaws is still about $100 less than that.
You and I can easily justify the 100 difference, or even $400+ for a better gun than that. A person working 32 hours a week for minimum wage in a warehouse spending 90% of that income on rent probably can't.

With more high $$$ guns it does get hard to point out what exactly you are getting for your money because inevitably some of it is brand recognition, marketing and gimmicks. Far from simping for Sig I think their guns are for the most part terrible value and should be firmly priced in budget territory, but the same could be said for other expensive guns really deserving to be knocked down a peg or two.

Trigger STILL feels like shit after all these years. Slide release STILL feels like shit after all these years. Mag release is STILL shit after all these years. Gun feels cheap and has horrible balance, STILL THOUGHEVER.

They aren't any more reliable than something like a 92 or an M&P, people are just afraid of change and Glock has been the meta for so many budget-conscious police forces that it's considered the "gold standard" of service pistols. In reality, it's a mediocre gun that should arguably cost $100 less than it does.

It's exactly the kind of gun you'd expect a "non gun guy" to invent; similar to how the modern abominations that dot our roadways were designed by PR committees and accountants rather than "car guys" and engineers.
>>
>>65075678
To be fair, Gaston really wasn't a gun expert when he designed the Glock 17 for the Austrian pistol trials. He actually bought a few different handguns to get some ideas and focused more on production efficiency and simplicity more than anything.

The problem with the last 15-20 years of every company shifting their entire R&D focus to building a Glock killer is that you can't out-Glock Glock. Glock already made the simplest, most bare bones, good enough for the job modern pistol. Even if a Glock brand Glock should have been a thing of the past by now, the industry-wide race to the bottom with nothing but glock copies still leaves Glock as the king because they did it first.

In the days of the 2000s before the infinite aftermarket was a thing, I didn't get the appeal of Glocks because most pistols were equally reliable by that point and with better features. But if you think about someone who didn't get into guns until 2020 when every company is blatantly selling just glocks, then why not buy an original Glock?
>>
>>65075697
I know, that was kind of my final qualifier. It's a bare bones, basic, ugly gun meant as an appliance first and foremost. Little to consideration for aesthetics or even ergonomics (muh backstraps!!). They feel and look like shit no matter what you do to them. There's a reason Glocks have a massive aftermarket and "gun guys" who buy them end up swapping 80% of their parts.
>>65075780
Well put, and it's why I don't get it when companies release stuff like the APX. I guess Beretta beat them in terms of making an uglier gun but that wasn't their intent, surely.

LMAO
The basic APX is $400 before rebate. CZ's P10 is $450 when not on sale. The basic XD is $350, I got mine on sale for $250. Those are OK budget guns. I like GLOCKs but they're priced in line with other mid shelf standard handguns.

>>65073510
