I used to think I the AUG looked like shit, but as time goes on I really like the look of it. But is my new found appreciation like a husband with an ugly wife, who gradually becomes accustomed to her ugliness?
>>
Recently been thinking on buying an A3 M2. Is there any difference between standard and NATO now that NATO has a bolt catch/release/whatever else was missing?
>>
>>65080920
as you're married and raise kids together you realize looks aren't everything. convenience, ease of use, low maintenance, and dependability are important.

I know right? The ergonomics on the AR are unbeatable. Also makes adding attachments so much easier with its modular design.
>>
>>65080792
When the hell does styer makes more of those 20 inch original STG77 augs thhey we're selling a year ago?
>>
>>65080792
The AUG is a good rifle, but saying it's superior to the AR is just laughable. It's short, that's it's only plus. The trigger is mushy dogshit and I say that generously. The reload procedure is awkward at best, and mounting anything to it is limited by the stubby rail real estate, even on the newest versions.
>>
>>65080810
Someone should invent a bullpup for ARfags that has the magazine in front of the grip but sucks the cartridge back 10" before feeding it. Like a box/tube magazine hybrid.
>>
>>65081002
So unbeatable that people often swap out all the furniture for aftermarket parts. To this day people are still bitching about the A2 grip.
>>
>>65081321
Those people are wrong. Luv me A2 grip

Do Austrian/Australian recruits even know that though? I get a lot of Americans will join up and they may already have experience with firearms, but for the rest, is it a case of you don't miss what you never had?

I couldn't help but notice your unwillingness to answering a simple 2-choice question, curious!

>>65080920
The AUG always looked awesome, modern ARs are some of the fugliest rifles found outside of Russia. We lost the plot when we "upgraded" to the A4 and it's been a downward spiral since then. Each year I think we've hit rock bottom and then something even more atrocious appears.

With this most recent achievement, fate has, in a single stroke, marked the decline of America and spelled a new era of wondrous rifle-length barrels and peaceful short-stroke piston dominance for the Austrian eagle, which promises to firmly stand in sharp contrast to the historically short barrels of American and Russian carbines and the low velocity it brought to the humbler nations of the world. With the blessings of Austrian double-headed eagle, bullpups, glass fibre-reinforced polymers, progressive triggers, left-handed bolts and unaligned gas piston rings will be the instruments with which Austria affirms its noble stewardship of 21st century world politics and offers the unaligned world a different option; an humanist alternative to the depredations of American direct impingement or Russian long-stroke inelegance and the opportunity for a more equitable and dignified piston-driven world.

>19% more muzzle velocity (if you compare a 20" aug barrel vs a 10.5" AR) in exchange for a shit trigger, shit ergonomics and a non chrome-lined barrel.

That's barely even noticeable at normal combat ranges.

yes
the american mind can't into simple mechanics
that's why they had to import scientists from germany to build rockets and what not

We have this every fucking AR thread. I don't think the person getting shot cares if they were shot by the 10.3" or 11.5" or 12.7" or 14.5" or 16" or whatever barrels people are actually using or the 20" that Stoner intended.

>>
>>65082616
Basically nothing in practical terms. I do think barrels should be a bit longer than 10.5" for reliability but the round itself doesn't need it.
>>
>>65082638
I would much rather be shot with 10'' than 20'' thank you very much.
>>
>>65082649
>going from 1800J to 1200J, ie. the difference of being shot at zero meters distance and 200 meters distance is practically nothing

>I would much rather (die in 4 seconds of shock/bloodloss) than (die in 4 seconds of shock/bloodloss).
>>
>>65082655
Yes, correct. 5.56 bullets are pretty much exactly as deadly at 200 meters as at the muzzle as long as the shot's still lined up
>>
>>65082661
>all firearm bullets are pretty much the same lethality no matter distance to target as long as the shot's lined up
>>
>>65082658
It's the difference between having a fist sized hole and a dick sized hole in your body.
Now, the dick isn't always lethal depending on the location.

>>
>>65081591
I have a friend who shoots it really well. And I generally think he's a mediocre shot with other rifles, so I guess he just found his niche. My point is that despite the heavy trigger it doesn't automatically lead to poor accuracy

It has nothing to do with the AUG, is built and manufactured by Steyr. <---What does that mean, think hard and deep before posting on the internet once more
>>
>>65081426
It's objectively terrible.I've shot dozens of different service rifles and I can say with honesty that it's the worst trigger of any firearm I've ever experienced. I bought a NYPD trade in Glock 17 that still had the 12 pound trigger in it, that felt light and precise in comparison. It's absolute dog shit. I honestly don't understand how it's as bad as it is. It's like they put absolutely zero effort into it.

get an MDR man. It's actually good, especially for lefties. You can set it up for yourself in about 2 minutes, but if you pass it to a righties, they can still shoot it, even in lefty-mode. due to the cool forward eject feature.
