Would a working shrink/growth ray be the most dangerous and useful weapon ever created?
Or would deviantart weirdos ruin it for everyone?

Yes

If we're talking about Rick tech.
What about a laser that homes in on, and crushes your balls
>>
>>65082268
Explain what you mean by "working", because the way it worked in the movie made no sense.
>>
>>65082268
a shrink ray would annihilate matter so it would be like a laser that causes gigaton nuclear explosions

One of the uses of the shrink tech in Downsized is Israel shrinking Palestinians to reduce their logistic footprint.
Could be useful in World War situations where you get 100k men as POW at once.
>>
>>65082524
But the shrinking in Downsizing is irreversible
>>
>>65082268
The ultimate solution to overpopulation
Shrink everyone so they consume 1/10000 of the typical resources
Plus you can ride ants to work
Interplanetary missions would be easier too cause you can just fit all the human stuff in a microsat or something with the help of mini machinists

But then a single-non-shrunken person can basically conquer an entire civilization

Anon ants would be eating humans. Hell pretty much the entire insect world would be looking at humans an all you can eat buffet nevermind all other creatures.
>>
>>65082268
Honey I Shrunk The Kids made a tremendous cultural impact in the 80s, but is now almost forgotten.
>>
>>65082995
bet we could "domesticate" them by leveraging their pheromones desu, the ant would become the new horse but with collective intelligence which would lead to a prosperous era of human ant kinship, age of the ant

A giant would be quickly brought down by heavy machineguns fire focused on the legs.
The only good it can do is for infiltration, and then it becomes an hassle once you realize how long itd take to move from point A to point B.

Also hope the rape mobiks dont find you or you re going to literaly explode from the inside or worse.

I blame The Magic School Bus.
>>
>>65083016
Yeah I have noticed that as well. Was always getting shown on tv in the 90s and then poof come the 2000s it was like it disappeared from memory.

Miniature russian would make a good guidance unit for a shahed drone
>>
>>65082268
The implications of shrink/growth ray tech kinda make the device it'self irrelevant. Why shrink the target when you can shrink part of the object? Why not shrink a bomb and set it to explode right after the effect wears off?
> deviantart weirdos
That's inevitable with any new technology.
>>
>>65082621
You shrink all the shit that's needed and expand it again once it's on site. How much food can you cram onto a space craft when you can fit a year's worth of shrunken rations into a space of a single normal one? How many pieces of machinery? If you can shrink a tank full of compressed gas how much reactive mass can you carry?
>>
Would it technically be a warcrime to temporarily detain a shrunken female soldier in your buttcrack?
>>
>>65083039
>frogposter
>it's fucking retarded
Yep, every time. In actual reality as other anons have pointed out the advantages from magic of that level are ludicrous. Logistics becomes insane. A single infiltrator or stealthy small set of drones can carry an armored battalion AND supplies for it and full FOBs can be kept resupplied indefinitely with tiny little capsule drops.

Though military effects are almost secondary to the revolutionary impact it'd have on planetary transport (and interplanetary would be sped up by orders of magnitude, traveling to the stars would suddenly become quite feasible).
>>
>>65082268
Depends on how much clown logic we're granted. If we operate on basic bitch physics, both shrinking and growth would be a cruel and unusual way to kill somebody.

Basically you shrink them and they cook themselves alive, you make them grow and they break their legs under their own weight and suffocate as their blood and heart can no longer transport enough blood oxygen.

IRL nations deploying these would probably have their population executed by death by a thousand cuts, just to send a sufficiently strongly worded message.

You'd just have defense rays that shrink all attackers.
