Flying boat and floatplane photograph thread 2.0Last thread hit image limit, land based MPAs/PBs probably welcome.>Felixstowe F.2
>>65084556The OG plane and pilot.
>>65084641I still prefer the wingtip floats on the Catalina. But those split floats are a pretty clever solution for a larger craft.
>>65086443Because most flying boats were relatively slow airspeed anyway, many designs even the later ones elected for fixed floats to save weight and mechanical (maintenance) complexity.Catalina elegantly has it all though:>wing struts>retractable floats>amphibian landing gear (on the -5A)>observation bubble waist turrets>extremely long range / patrol endurance
The inter war Italian float plane designs are marvellous. The passenger versions too. Also pic related could outrun some of the early jet fighters.

>>65089784>>65090200>>65090416Between the X and the Coast Guard station is the appropriately named "Seaplane Cove."
So apparently they're bringing the Catalina back.https://catalinaaircrafttrust.com/ngaa-home
