SAO with a frame mounted safety is still a pretty respectable pistol design today. So yeah there was better choices starting in the 70s and especially now but it was king for a good 40 years in a world of double action revolvers and single stacks. In that same period of time we went from bolt actions to autoloading rifles to battle rifles to intermediate caliber assault rifles

>>650883121911..Hands down. Got a Springfield, had to send it back for servicing before I could even fire it. It wouldn't go in battery sometimes, other times it would cut into the brass. Mag release button was so stiff I couldn't press it with one hand. 1911 fanboys were telling me I was imagining problems. Springfield had to tune the extractor and mag release, change the barrel. Also see people saying there's a break-in period for the first 250-500 rounds so add another $230 to the price of the gun just to get it to work right.Most 1911 people also talk shit about Glocks, but my Glock worked perfectly right out of the box

It's overrated mainly by Europeans and other countries that use it because 9mm handguns have drastically advanced litterally right after it's adoption. Guns like the 1911 are not overrated because the single action trigger and the fact that not many other guns can do the 45 acp/10mm well
>>65090882Yes understood what you're saying. 3rd gen Smiths are of their time, an update of the vintage 39/59 series (during exact timeframe Glock was taking over the handgun market). 1911 fans and people that like all metal semiautos 'revere' them, and if ? you don't mind a large heavy pistol they indeed can be carried it's all down to what you're proficient with and can tolerate. For me they're great and nice shooting range guns, or home defense / vehicle pistols.
