Picked up a $200 Circassian Walnut blank for $30. Now I need a rifle to complete my 'Project: Ultimat Safari Gun'Could be a CZ, could be a Ruger, could be a Winchester.Definately a boltgun. What chamber would you pick? I have a soft spot for .375 Weatherby, it will chamber .375 H&H and still take handloads. Not favoring belted magnums though, and could be a .338-300 PRC. What other modern centerfire cartridge would you consider for your Ultimate Safari Rifle?>triple factor Captcha, really?
But I will admit leaning towards the Model 77 MK II and would consider barreling it in 9.3x62. How do you like them apples? The main game animal would be the North American Roosevelt Elk.>inb4 just .30 Aught Fud, dudeAre you trying to kill me with flacid boredom and contemptable mediocrity?
FN commercial Mauser action in 416 Rigby. If possible, a companion rifle in 280 Remington.
>>65102781Are you actually taking this on safari or is it just a larp? The reason I ask is that if you're actually going to Africa, you need to worry about what ammo you can buy there. It doesn't do you any good to set it up for the latest and greatest meme cartridge only to not be able to shoot it when your ammo was stolen at the airport. Also, what's this for exactly? You say safari but you're tossing around dangerous game cartridges & plains game cartridges in the same sentence.
>>65102836>416 Rigby. If possible, a companion rifle in 280 Remington.I totally agree to the companion rifle concept and would conceed the .280 AI as one of the most compelling of the small bore cartridges. Though I would personally favor the .25-06. >>65102856>actually taking this on safari or is it just a larp?Well, "safari" engenders the idea and romance of African hunting, but you could easily "LARP" a North American safari list of Kansas whitetailes, Arizona Coues deer, Baja California Bighorns, Montana Shiras moose, Idaho mountain goats and Colorado elk as a lifetime accomplishment for hunting with only 1 or 2 species needing anything over .30-06, if that. So building a "safari rifle" would be pure larp. For this case, any cartirdge should be accessable "enough". But for the instance of available African ammos, .375 Weatherby is ideal as an .375H&H improved. Note, I have not perused any African proshops this year.
>>65102856>you're tossing around dangerous game cartridges & plains game cartridges in the same sentence. Not prior to your post I haven't. Not until mentioning the .25-06.
>>65102922>Well, "safari" engenders the idea.....You typed a lot of words but you didn't answer the questions posed. What game and where will this rifle be used?
a Blaser luxe grade straight pull in 9.3×64 Brenneke
>>65102781I have a nice do-all rifle in a custom Mauser in .375 H&H Magnum. Peruvian action, heavy stainless barrel, traditional H&H style straight stock. It's a well balanced gun, points well and is still reasonably useful outside of africa. The 235gr Speer bullet at 2950fps shoots relatively flat and I'm told the 350gr. Degol are decently suited for thick skinned game. For pure dangerous game use, I'd want something bigger, though. Either a .416 Rigby Heym Express or a double in either .450 or .470 NE.
>>65102939>What game and where will this rifle be used?>>65102821>The main game animal would be the North American Roosevelt Elk.You mised the second post.
>>65103005>custom Mauser in .375 H&H Magnum. Peruvian action, heavy stainless barrel, traditional H&H style straight stock.Sounds beautiful. I was considering the op pic Monte Carlo style, but can see how a straihter stock would help manage perceived recoil.
>>65102984>Blaser luxe grade straight pullSounds nice, but right out.
>>6510292225-06 is patrician

>>65103048>25-06 is patricianI wonder sometimes if the .25 Creedmore or .257Weatherby are even needed?
>>65103097No, because .257 Roberts exists.

>>65102781I'd want a 375 Ruger, it's just so much nicer to carry a normal action. I'd probably see if I could rebarrel a Tikka in it to be honest
>>65103500>375 Ruger >see if I could rebarrel a TikkaInteresting.>Tikka:T-3(99% Press Fit Inlet)>Model 695-(White Tail Hunter), Model 595 (White Tail Hunter)..........."96% Semi-Inlet"http://rifle-stocks.com/actions_available.htmAnybody with a T3 action?

>>65102781Ruger Hawkeye African in .416 RugerStill $7 a round but at least I don't need a $25,000 rifle to shoot it

for me it's a type 99 rechambered to 404 jeffrey with a teak stock and african game scenes engraved on the bolt and the dust cover. maybe one day...

>>65104000They are easier to find in .375 Ruger, not unobtainium but Ruger doesn't make enough to meet demand.
>>65104105Yeah, I checked out one boomer's prized NIB collection of Ruger #1s in dangerous game big bores, mostly all limited runs, with his 'know-what-I-got' pricing. Very nice but just singles, and all factory stock, at that. He must have had over 12 rifles, all mostly different chambers.
Nice pair, good coverage.
>>65102781>Your dream safari gun?Farquharson in .577 NE.
>>65104117These are newly manufactured and sell for about $1500, you might just need to have your FFL see if he can get one from Lipsey's or whoever Ruger shipped them to.
>>65103282
>>65103731I just figured if Tikkas come in 9.3x62 then it should handle 375 ruger
>>65102781>.375 H&H is prolific in Africa, can be loaded very versatilely, and is the legal minimum for big game in a lot of African countries >drop box magazine profile, pic rel8d>express sights >ebony forend tip > high lpi checkering w/ fleur de lis borders>cartridge trap on the toeline of the stock>leathered rubber buttpad>double beaded pancake cheekpiece>controlled feed action of some kind w/ integral claw scope bases >set trigger>model 70 style 3-pos safety>glass bedding>rust blued finish

>>65102781I own the CZ-550 in .458 Lott. Bought it back before the faggots did covid for 1,000 bucks, after tax. I fucking love it. I want to get into Elk hunting in the NW. 500 grain bullets are not flat, but I won’t be taking shots beyond 100 yards often because of dense forest.
>>65107198Easily, one of the nicest rifles itt.
>>65107388>.458 LottIs it possible to have "too much gun"? Side question, can you really load the .458 Lott with #8 shot?https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1169991206
