Hi /k/,I’m building a sci-fi setting and could use some input on how to approach extraterrestrial contact. Here’s the current concept:A 512-meter FTL-capable destroyer, nothing larger, is deployed into a target system where it loiters on station. Onboard is a specialized team composed of scientific experts in the vein of Sphere (1998), but structured along military lines similar to Stargate SG-1. They are not civilians but a dedicated unit trained specifically for first-contact scenarios. To date, they have not encountered any extraterrestrial intelligence and exist in preparation for that eventuality.Upon receipt of a distress call or confirmed contact signal, Article I is invoked. The destroyer enters a sustained loiter posture in-system while the first-contact team is deployed to the planetary surface to initiate communication, assess intent, and attempt de-escalation. Both the destroyer and the ground team operate independently during this phase, each executing Article I objectives without requiring coordination beyond shared mission awareness. If Article I fails to establish stable or non-hostile contact, Article II is triggered.Article I – First ContactThe team is deployed to initiate and attempt peaceful first contact with any extraterrestrial presence. All efforts prioritize communication, assessment, and de-escalation.Article II – Strategic DenialIf the extraterrestrial presence is confirmed to be hostile, it is to be terminated without hesitation. The team is authorized to use all necessary force to neutralize the threat and to support the destruction or denial of any assets, infrastructure, or resources at the planetary or system level that may hold strategic value to the hostile entity.
>>65103523>extraterrestrial contact.Dark forest theory. It's game theoretically the best option to wipe out anything you find in space.
>>65103523Additionally, an ad hoc task force would be assembled from nearby units in the closest bordering systems, enabling immediate FTL deployment to trade space for time while a formal task force is organized.
>>65103523>>65103535That's everything, I have currently.I'd like to know how i can improve it. Suggestions, Etc.
>>65103523If it's hostile you kill it
>>65103523I like it
>>65103523>>65103526I agree. Its not like we as a species would particularly enjoy it if some random chuckle-fucks we didn't even know existed suddenly appeared, and lorded over us.>If Article I fails to establish stable or non-hostile contact, Article II is triggered.>if they don't cooperate or at least tolerate us we will try to wipe them out. You'd have to bribe with promises of superior technology to even get past (merited)xenophobia. And how many people would look at THAT without suspicions?
>>65103526>>65103913Furthermore, if your ship encounters aliens the single best move it can make after wiping them out is to full burn in a random direction away from Earth and destroy any material on board that might allow them to find it. We have no way of knowing if they would be able to track you back to earth, so the only safe option is not to go back.
>>65103537In article I during the communication phase you should describe what the team is authorised to disclose about humanity. As people have said, location of Earth is off limits, but things like FTL capability, weapons technology, population size, etc. would also be important factors to keep in mind if things end up turning hostile. Furthermore, you'd probably want to go into things with a 19th century colonial attitude. Are we the gunboats turning up at a Japanese port, or are they?
>>65103523If it bleeds you can kill it
>>65103523Oh I like the idea.Meanwhile, fixed it for ya.
>>65104011In terms of first contact I'd imagine not earth but outlying colony your hades hope type colony
>>65103523Here's my question. What's the team armed with weapon wise? I take it, SMG, Auto Pistol, Shotgun and Demolition charges.
What branch is this apart of navy, army or airforce or is it intelligence? As that's the big question what branch can overwrite and requisition a destroyer
>>65103526Being inimically hostile means you will get exterminated if the other party turns out to be more powerful. The smart play is to pretend to be weaker than you are, and see how the other party responds.
>>65106468So would this be operating under different types of femi theories?
