>>65106645As much as the Dauntless has lines like no painter could best, and as romantic as the idea is, there's almost no chance that it'd be viable again. Computerized targeting systems for dumb bombs and the prevalence of guided munitions make it largely unnecessary, and Close-In Weapons Systems make close-in attacks basically suicide. Not even to speak of the risks involved in getting that close. And I'm not even sure if it'd be viable for most modern airframes. Would be badass thoughie.

During the middle and later stages of World War II, dive bombing at shallower angles, which was safer against AA fire, became the dominant tactic.
